£230k Lamborghini abandoned on side of road after driver crashed and fled
A £230k supercar was abandoned on the side of the road after the driver who hired it 'crashed into a pole and fled'.
Shocking footage shows the Lamborghini Huracán with a huge dent in its bonnet after the collision on Wapping High Street, London, on Friday (19 July).
A passersby claims two men were travelling in the light blue Italian supercar and had been "doing laps" along the busy road, in the Tower Hamlets borough of the city, at around 4pm.
The witness claims the car span out of control and hit the pole - narrowly missing a pedestrian and a jogger.
The occupants - believed to be in their late 20s or 30s - then made a dash for it before police, fire service and the owner arrived on the scene.
One bystander - who witnessed the incident and wanted to remain anonymous - said it seemed as if the driver was treating the road like a "race track".
He said: "I started filming as I had an instinct that something was going to happen. They were driving laps five to six times.
"And then one time, as they did a lap, they tried drifting it on a roundabout. It’s a rear-wheel car, so it spun and hit a pole.
"There was quite a loud bang, and it almost hit a pedestrian and someone jogging.
"They were in their late 20s or 30s. They looked Caucasian. But they ran off straight after they hit the pole.
"One minute I saw them, the next they had gone. I don't think they owned it, I think they were hiring the car.
He added: "They obviously thought it was a race track. Maybe they just wanted to see what the car could do."
The bystander, who is a Lamborghini fan, said he was "heartbroken" to see the damage the pair had caused to the motor.
But he felt they were unlikely to escape justice as he claims to have seen police take a phone and a wallet from the car during their investigations.
He added: "When I saw it [the crash], I was shocked. How could someone just do this and wreck a £200,000 car and then leave it in the middle of the street?
"I'm a fan of sports cars, so to see that was heartbreaking but they are not going to get very far.
"The police obviously checked the car to see if they left any valuables. I think they found someone's phone and a credit card."
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "This was a hire car. There was no reported injury. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver."
