00:00Can he grind out some points here in moto two before the riders get a two weekend off break?
00:10And this is a big moment.
00:11Fial has the advantage going into moto two.
00:15But consistency has been so hard to find in the 250 division this year.
00:21Can he do it?
00:22Can Deegan bounce back?
00:24What about Levy kitchen a disappointing moto one for the home track native.
00:32Fly racing 32nd car is up.
00:39It's sideways.
00:40Let's go.
00:41Fial, another good start.
00:42Motorsport.com hole shot to the 16th.
00:54Deegan up the inside.
00:57Can he make it happen this time?
00:58Instant replay of moto one.
01:01And again, Fial able to secure it.
01:03Maybe he does the cross under move like Jason Anderson did.
01:07Or does he keep it on?
01:08He tried.
01:10Around the outside.
01:11But it is Tom Fial.
01:12Into the S-turns.
01:13And Deegan still looking for room.
01:14This is going to be so much fun to watch.
01:26See how it plays out.
01:28Does Deegan go?
01:31What I'm wondering right now while I'm watching these two guys is he can try to go for it
01:35early on?
01:36Or does he follow Tom Fial?
01:38See what Tom might be doing a little bit different.
01:40Maybe can he learn from Tom Fial on different lines, line selection.
01:45What is Tom doing?
01:47What is Deegan doing?
01:48Huge error.
01:49Good start for rider Defrancisco again in third.
01:54Carbon copy.
01:55It is just like moto one.
01:58We go back to the K10 keys to the moto.
02:00Deegan has to not tip over this time.
02:01That was the critical moment of moto one.
02:04He was right here.
02:05The previous race couldn't capitalize.
02:08Into the forest now.
02:12And Fial.
02:14Can he stretch it?
02:15Remember right through here, this is where all those shadows are.
02:19Very hard to see.
02:20This guy is going to have to ride with a little caution.
02:27He was in fourth but almost lost the front end.
02:29What you're talking about there.
02:31So Deegan mentioned on the podium moto one maybe needed to change some of the parts of
02:34the motorcycle.
02:35Will?
02:36That's right, Jason.
02:37It struck me as being unusual because we don't hear that from Hayden Deegan too much.
02:41So I went back to the monster NGM team to see what they were doing.
02:46They were busy working on the suspension as a mistake gets made there.
02:50He's still on two wheels at the moment.
02:55When I got back there, they were busy working on the suspension.
02:57When I asked specifics of it, they said there was a lot of dancing around is what Hayden
03:02was saying.
03:03I'm sure you can speak to that and how it affects him when he's on track.
03:06So that's what they were trying to change for him.
03:09It wouldn't give me too much on how big a change that was.
03:12They were busy working away.
03:13He's got a far drill over there but they were definitely busy.
03:17It's either going to be a rebound situation or a compression situation.
03:21So not telling you you want to keep that close to the vest for sure but possibly, yeah, a
03:28rebound.
03:30What does busy mean to you?
03:31Busy means the shock moving around a lot.
03:35So they can speed it up, slow that.
03:37They have the ability to speed the rebound up, slow the rebound down.
03:41Everything is a compromise.
03:42Slow it down.
03:43It starts dancing from the side to side.
03:44If you speed it up, it will track a little bit straighter, not go side to side.
03:49It gets a little more up and down movement.
03:52The shock moves a bit more free.
03:55Up and down is the day for Levi Kitchin.
03:57We finally have him toward the front there in the yellow jersey, the 47.
04:01Can he make the move?
04:02Angelique Swole.
04:03It would put him in fourth.
04:04Swole going to fight back here.
04:05The triumph around the outside.
04:06Into the big jump.
04:07Who wants to send it?
04:08Kitchin.
04:09Big air.
04:10Lands it.
04:11Oh, they almost collide.
04:12Yeah, he jumps just a few feet longer and he's able to keep, he's able to have more
04:26momentum by doing that.
04:27Maybe a little bit lighter on the bike also to keep that bike on top of the sand.
04:31That helps him get more drive.
04:34Look at Joe.
04:36Right behind Swole.
04:37Talked about he needed a little bit more early race intensity.
04:41See what he can bring here.
04:43Yeah, Shimoda right there in red on the 36th battling it out with Swole who has been pretty
04:48consistent this year.
04:50Here comes Shimoda around the outside.
04:53Into the whoops.
04:54Oh, he got a good run out of the corner.
04:58And he finishes it before they get to that finish line jump.
05:03Shimoda and Kitchin get a battle now.
05:05That's for fourth.
05:06Now up to 2.1 seconds on Deegan.
05:12Send it back to Will.
05:13Checking in with the monster energy team there of Levi Kitchin in the break.
05:20Just to see where everything went wrong.
05:21We know there was a bad start there in moto one and they said, yep, it was just essentially
05:26bad execution from Eli.
05:27He really out of there.
05:28So they looked at film.
05:29They addressed it.
05:30Mitch Payton, team manager, looked over it with Levi and the rest of the team.
05:31But they said also he just rode flat.
05:32Mitch told me, look, he just needs to pick it up.
05:33There's a lot going on for him this week.
05:34Home race.
05:35There's a lot of people around him.
05:36He said he just needs to pick it up here.
05:37He was flat.
05:38So right now we're talking about two guys needing to do the early battling for this
05:39spot in Levi Kitchin.
05:40You also rode for Mitch Payton.
05:59He's not afraid.
06:00No.
06:01He's gotten a little nicer.
06:04He's not as hard core as he used to be from what I can gather.
06:10But nevertheless, oh, yeah, he gave me the right act several times.
06:15But definitely.
06:16Oh, no.
06:17No.
06:18No.
06:19Hey, what are you thinking?
06:20Things of that nature.
06:21Look at shimoda.
06:22He's going to rip this outside line.
06:25Let's see how close he can get.
06:28He's riding well.
06:29Yeah, he is.
06:30Again, you go back to the last three or four races.
06:33His intensity is definitely ratcheted up.
06:37Here we go.
06:38That big flyaway jump.
06:40And Kitchin uses it to hold on.
06:42Yeah, that was great heads up riding by Joe.
06:45He checked up just a little bit.
06:47Make sure those two probably wouldn't collide.
06:49Had Joe kept the gas on and sailed the bike over that jump, it could have possibly collided
06:54in midair.
06:55So Joe just erring on the side of caution there, I believe.
07:01I think Joe can get by Levi relatively early.
07:04I think he has a legit shot to get up there.
07:08Possibly contend for the podium spot.
07:10He did it at moto one.
07:12He's trying again.
07:14Back to the outside.
07:15Remember, this is where he made the move on small lap before.
07:19Leaping into the whoops is shimoda.
07:21Right around to Japan.
07:22Here it is.
07:23Oh, it's going to be close.
07:24Got him.
07:25You know, you talked about at the beginning of the show, when you have the opening here,
07:31what you need to do.
07:32As soon as it opens, you have to take it just because it's so hard to get by these guys.
07:37So one little movement, you see the guy falter, you have to go for it.
07:42And shimoda did go for it, R.C.
07:44So now he's for it.
07:45And this is overall podium on the line.
07:47Yeah.
07:48It could be interesting to see what Joe's lap time is this next time with some clean
07:52air.
07:53No one in front of him.
07:54You got rider Defrancisco about two and a half, three seconds in front.
07:58It's going to be interesting to see.
08:01Defrancisco had the fastest lap that last lap.
08:03And Defrancisco will be the first podium of his career if he can hold on to this.
08:07Back to the leaders.
08:08Deegan keeping Vial in sight this time.
08:11Oh, yeah.
08:12It will be a different ball game here, I believe, for Deegan and Vial.
08:20Both.
08:21Deegan is able to keep it up.
08:24Chance Hynes is having a rough go this time.
08:27He's buried 31st.
08:28J.T.
08:29Well, unfortunately for Chance Hynes, the last thing he needs, he went down in a huge
08:33pileup in the second quarter.
08:35I think this is probably worth a saying, adding insult to injury.
08:39He's already hurt.
08:40Now he's got to fight all the way through this pack just to try to get any points at
08:44all.
08:45So certainly not going to plan here at moto two for Hynes.
08:47Riding with that foot injury dating back to last week.
08:50Thanks, J.T.
08:51Vial putting a little distance now between himself and Deegan.
08:55He is.
08:56I mean, he's riding exceptionally well.
08:58This is an incredible ride by Tom Vial.
09:00We've been talking about Deegan all season long, how dominant he is.
09:05Right now Vial is putting on a clinic.
09:09So Tom Vial, can he 1-1 it and deliver his first victory of the season or can Deegan
09:17get it back?
09:39You know what I love when you listen to them?
09:41You can tell where Deegan is on the track just by hearing it.
09:43He runs that thing so hard.
09:45A lot of those star racing monster energy Yamaha's sound like that.
09:51A lot of their riders read those bikes out.
09:54They can hold a long gear, longer than most.
09:59The Yamaha has a distinct sound.
10:00It has the air box toward the front.
10:02Different than most bikes.
10:03It sounds a little different.
10:04But man, Deegan.
10:05He's closing the gap.
10:06Oh, boy.
10:07It's heating up now.
10:08Vial would have the overall if it ends like this.
10:12But there is a long way to go.
10:15Deegan is ready to attack.
10:16Whoever wins this battle between each other.
10:20You got a single.
10:21Yeah.
10:22They have a flag out.
10:23They have a flag out.
10:24Yeah.
10:25Red cross flag is out.
10:28In that exchange, Vial pulled away.
10:30He did.
10:31Maybe.
10:32Yeah.
10:33We'll have to see.
10:34Holding a big gap.
10:35Yeah.
10:36Look, man.
10:37What would this mean?
10:38Yeah.
10:39Go ahead.
10:40Hopefully he didn't jump on the cross flag.
10:41That's a substantial gap that he put on Hayden Deegan.
10:45Yeah.
10:46It's hard for us to detect.
10:47Yeah.
10:48It is.
10:49Yeah.
10:50Yeah.
10:51Yeah.
10:52But you did see the flag.
10:53I saw the flag.
10:54Yes, I did.
10:55Just wondering.
10:56Now, as for this battle.
10:57Yep.
10:58What would this be like for Vial?
10:59Oh, huge.
11:00And another reason.
11:01Not only would it be huge for his confidence, but going into two off weeks.
11:06Right.
11:07He's going to be set up for a final showdown these last couple of nationals coming up.
11:13I feel like we had a lot transpired, but we're only 11 minutes into this.
11:17Oh, Anstey fifth and moto one is out now.
11:22Moto two.
11:23Is he done?
11:24Austin Kent, his mechanic there.
11:25Hopefully it's a bike problem for Max.
11:26He's not hurt.
11:27Back to the leader, Vial.
11:28And there's Deegan.
11:29I like how Deegan is hopping around when he landed off of that tabletop jump.
11:48He landed right before a braking bump and accelerated off of that.
11:53That was pretty cool.
11:56Keep an eye there.
11:58So this area, Deegan closing back down toward the finish.
12:02Yeah, like when these guys are so close in speed, I mean, there's only like a couple
12:06thousands that separated in the last lap.
12:09It gets back.
12:10This is where it gets back.
12:11It's hard to make a pass because Tom's going to take the best lines in this track because
12:15it races so narrow that it's easy to defend that position.
12:20Oh, maybe not.
12:22Deegan on the inside.
12:23Can he make it happen?
12:24Shuts the door.
12:25Has the lead.
12:27Hayden Deegan.
12:28What a command pass.
12:31And that takes some confidence.
12:35To never let off, he jumped from one braking bump to the other to make the move.
12:40And he is jumping everything now.
12:43And this would be also the overall win, by the way.
12:48Oh, Tom's got to do whatever he can to keep on the back tire of Hayden Deegan.
12:55This is going to break his spirit if he's not.
12:58I think it's going to be fun to watch what he wants to uncork right here, J.T.
13:01There was such a difference between this moto and the first one.
13:05It could have been suspension.
13:06It could have just been how he felt.
13:08Every time he would pull a gap, we were talking about that red cross situation, if that had
13:12anything to do with it.
13:13Immediately, Hayden closed that gap back down.
13:16He simply couldn't do that in moto one.
13:18He had a four second gap and hovered there the whole time.
13:22Whether it's the aggression level or Hayden feeling it, there's a distinguishable difference.
13:29Feeling it, absolutely, J.T., or maybe he went to school.
13:35Maybe he was learning, okay, where's Tom making up all this time?
13:38Tom's right there.
13:41Yeah.
13:42All right.
13:43So Anstey, we saw him in the mechanics area as he tries to keep Deegan in his sights.
13:48Will?
13:49Max Anstey went out and rejoined the race and the two things we weren't sure about and
13:54why that red cross flag was out and why Max Anstey was in, well, those two are connected.
13:59He actually went off the side of that jump there, had to pick his bike up and a few struggles
14:03there to get back up and running.
14:04So came into the mechanics area to swap out some goggles because he couldn't see and now
14:09has rejoined the moto.
14:10Well, he's a lap down, Will.
14:11They passed him.
14:12So he's not going to score points.
14:13But he did say everything he does this year, Anstey, is to try to learn the bike for next
14:18year.
14:19He's going to get a little more data.
14:21Vial, can he hang in there with Deegan as another lap clicks off?
14:30Remember moto two last year, that was a real coming out party for Deegan.
14:34He showed next level speed, got the moto win.
14:37He had won it overall earlier in the year last season at red bud, but he did not win
14:41a moto when he did it.
14:42It was really what Shugle that showed how special he could be.
14:46There's Vial.
14:49And Shimoda has taken third from DeFrancisco.
14:53Send it to Will.
14:54Thanks, Jason.
14:55But he's had to work his way through again for Joe Shimoda.
14:58Not from too far back, but not the starts that the team wanted this week.
15:02As that's been the focus during the week, they made a few changes on the bike to try
15:06and get him a little bit more comfort, try and get him out there up front in that sort
15:10of top three spot.
15:11They said they made a lot of progress.
15:12They were looking good during the week.
15:15Unfortunately, it just hasn't translated over here to race day at this point.
15:20That's third.
15:21It would also be third overall.
15:22The 3.3.
15:23And then next we go to rider DeFrancisco.
15:27J.T.
15:28I don't want to interrupt this battle, but it's really hard to disprove that this change
15:36back to riding in Bakersfield for rider D is working.
15:39You think about the conditions here, it's hot, it's in the desert, and that's exactly
15:43what this racetrack offers.
15:45Similar to Jason Anderson riding in New Mexico as I'm growing up there, I think these track
15:49conditions work for rider D. He's been up front all day long, which is a big difference
15:54from where we saw him earlier in the season.
15:59Kitchen makes that move.
16:00DeFrancisco behind him.
16:02I think it helps a guy like rider DeFrancisco without a doubt.
16:07Because being in your hometown, riding a thing you're familiar on.
16:10How about Jalik swole right here?
16:13Third up team on this brand-new Triumph TF250 doing a fantastic job.
16:18This race team has been working hard.
16:20They've had their struggles and learning year for sure, but as a whole, like I was telling
16:25Jalik and a lot of the guys in the team, they're doing a great job when you consider what they've
16:32been able to do, what they've been able to accomplish as well.
16:35To see Jalik out here doing as well as he is doing against riders and teams that have
16:42been at it for a long time, it's respectable and a testament to that race team and bike.
16:48I was chatting with them last week.
16:50A lot of the troubles they've had, they've been minor things that have led to not finishing
16:53the motos, which really is what bumps them out.
16:56We're halfway through this moto, and remind you that monster energy is available at Fred
17:01Meier.
17:02Here's swole's teammate, Joey Savocci, and Savocci said he put 60-some hours, hard hours
17:09riding in the sand on a stock bike when they were first putting this program together.
17:14He said he didn't have one problem at all.
17:17So the race bike, they've been chasing minor little things, like a sprocket that broke
17:22for swole at southwick, little electrical connectors, things like that.
17:28But you know, at supercross, they didn't really have many issues at all, and it almost made
17:33you forget that it's a first-year effort for triumph.
17:35Well, it is, you know, and that's the thing, like, people shouldn't lose sight of, is,
17:40you know, all the racing that they're doing, their mxgp team is doing extremely well, and
17:45I think they're exceeding all expectations.
17:48And in disclosure, you're part of the triumph, Brad.
17:51Not as much of the racing team, but you're part of the development.
17:55So talking to swole, it sounds like you're preaching some patience here.
17:59Yeah, well, sometimes you have to, and this is what I appreciate about all of these races,
18:05race teams and racers, especially the factory triumph racing team, is they want to go out
18:09and win.
18:10They want to be on podiums.
18:11They want to run up front.
18:13But sometimes you have to just look back at what they've been able to accomplish, all
18:18things considered.
18:19It's pretty incredible.
18:23As we watch davinci here, a couple other updates.
18:27We mentioned how great rider deep francesco is riding today, a career best.
18:32A shout out, his buddy from bakersfield, jett reynolds, who is looking for his first
18:37career top ten overall, and he's in position for it right now.
18:41Well, and this doesn't really surprise me, if you think about it, because he, you talked
18:45about it in the first moto, he's, well, that's, yeah, that's corn.
18:49That's cochran, who is right behind reynolds.
18:52He's trying to catch reynolds.
18:53But going back to jett reynolds, he's finally been able to string a whole bunch of races
18:59together.
19:00So then you get that confidence.
19:01I mean, this guy was an unbelievable amateur.
19:04Just basically from his pro debut, he has, he's been injured.
19:09So now club mx has given him a great opportunity, been able to get races, get experience, build
19:15that mental confidence, get that race craft back in him, and that's, I think that's part
19:20of why you're seeing him do well and get some pbs.
19:24You're actually just taking the transponder off and saying he's done, as cochran battles
19:29masterful.
19:30Yeah, jett reynolds and rider d francesco were maybe the two biggest prospects in the
19:37sport as amateurs at one point, and both coming from the same town, along with their buddy
19:42stiles robertson, who's been out for a long time now with a wrist injury, and they have
19:47both been through it.
19:48Not injuries as much for rider d.
19:50He's just slowly been getting better and better, but for reynolds, it's been years
19:54of injuries.
19:55So cool to see him at least just getting into the top ten now as masterful goes after cochran.
19:59You talk about the d francescos and the reynolds and kasey cochran, just to see them evolve
20:06into what we all kind of thought they could do and what their expectations were, so cool
20:12to see.
20:13It's like they're finally doing it.
20:14That's great.
20:15And not giving up.
20:16They should be proud of themselves.
20:17And just got to keep that momentum going and keep trying and never give up.
20:21Don't be complacent.
20:22And a similar story with masterful, who's been through probably more downs and more
20:27drama in his career than anyone would ever want, and he got his head above water with
20:31this rider pro circuit.
20:32Rough day today after getting run over last week and just kind of wearing down.
20:38I appreciate the effort.
20:39Yeah.
20:40He still is.
20:41He's digging deep right here at the end of the race, and at the end of the race, as long
20:45as you're able to stay strong like he's doing, you can pick off some not easy positions,
20:51but relatively easy positions from other riders maybe falling back.
20:55Looks like cochran is starting to slow down, so that's an example of that was a relatively
20:59easy position for him to get just by going, you know, not totally laying off the gas.
21:06And dillard schwartz looking to do the same.
21:08And here's why it's big for schwartz, who is 13th.
21:11He is right on the bubble into the top 20 now in combined points, supercross and motocross
21:17to get a guaranteed spot in the playoffs on the toyota brent lintz bar x suzuki.
21:22Here's more on schwartz.
21:23Well, schwartz is the typical grinder.
21:24He is not a guy, as casey cochran is about to find out, he's not a guy you want to see
21:30behind you late in a moto.
21:31He doesn't do a lot of flashy things.
21:32He's not going to blow you away with style or lap time, but he just continues to get
21:37faster and faster and faster later in the moto.
21:40And then you look up in the results sheet and you're like, huh, how did dillard schwartz
21:43get a top ten today?
21:45It's just like this, just riding around the inside of casey cochran and setting off.
21:49Like your old buddy chad reed used to say, j.T., just chipping away, right?
21:54Yeah, we actually got a chance to talk to dillard schwartz, so let's hear more about
21:58that.
21:59I think I'm in 22nd right now or somewhere around there, and there's a few guys ahead
22:06of me still that aren't racing the outdoors in the 250 class.
22:09So should be able to get in there.
22:11It would be nice to be able to get a little farther in there to get some more points coming
22:15in, but I'd be happy just to get in and not have to go to the lcq.
22:20That's what he's done right now.
22:21Yeah, you keep riding the way you are, bud, you're going to be in there and not have to
22:25go to the lcq.
22:26Exactly.
22:27That goal is going to be accomplished.
22:29And he accomplished all of it in motocross because I think he missed all of supercross
22:33with a pretty bad, I believe, arm injury, and he's pulling away from cochran now.
22:37I think the real question is, can reynolds hold on?
22:40He's going to have schwartz and masterful coming after him.
22:44There is romano coming through next.
22:46Deegan is gone.
22:47He's pulled 3.5 seconds on vial and is headed to the overall.
22:51That's going to feel good for deegan.
22:547.05.
22:56That's mark fittis.
22:57He had a rough go at millville.
22:59I don't know if he was even sure when he left there if he was going to be back to race.
23:02Got banged up in a crash.
23:03Good to see him back.
23:05And chad hymus.
23:08Foot injury.
23:09Wasn't sure if he could race.
23:11Down early in this one.
23:1231st.
23:13He's clawed back to 16th.
23:18Great effort.
23:19And he makes the move on fittis.
23:20Yeah, exactly.
23:21Great effort.
23:22And just making the best of what you can when you're injured and, you know, just lower your
23:26expectations and go out there and take what it gives you.
23:30He's riding this race superbly.
23:33What did j.T. Say about schwartz late in these photos?
23:36You're seeing it right now.
23:37How does he quietly get a position like that by rides like this?
23:41Oh, look at setting him up.
23:44Can he make the move?
23:46Master pool's fighting.
23:49Schwartz has it.
23:51Great pass.
23:53And are they catching?
23:55Is that a lap rider or is that reynolds?
23:57That's a lap rider.
23:58They got a long way to go to get to reynolds.
24:00Almost ten seconds up the road.
24:03And hate deegan continues to stretch it out front.
24:08It's going to feel good.
24:11The riding hasn't been bad the last couple of weeks.
24:13The results not showing it.
24:15And he's getting it back today.
24:18Making it happen.
24:19Loved how he played the first quarter of this race following v.
24:25Be interested to see what he has to say after the podium.
24:29It's always interesting to hear what he has to say.
24:32Just to see what the strategy was.
24:34Talked about the bike.
24:36Making some adjustments to the suspension.
24:38The bike is working well.
24:40Tom was riding well at the beginning of the race.
24:42Hey, I'm going to follow this guy.
24:44See what he's doing a bit different.
24:46Once I see what he's doing, make that adjustment.
24:49And then pounce, j.T.
24:51When hayden is riding in his rhythm, you can see the little things.
24:55He comes over the table top for the mechanics.
24:57And kind of scrubs there.
24:59Just got a little bit more flair in his riding.
25:01That was just what was missing in the first moto.
25:03He wasn't far off.
25:05But those just prototypical hayden deegan type moves, he didn't have them.
25:09That's when you're looking for someone a little bit off, a little bit uncomfortable.
25:13That keeps him from winning a moto.
25:15Those are the telltale signs.
25:17A lot of times, I got a clinic, kevin windham put on a clinic for me several times here.
25:23And it was kind of that way.
25:25I felt like I was in a situation like deegan, overriding.
25:29Maybe not overriding, but just not as smooth and precise as maybe like k.Dub was.
25:34And he was just clicking away, clicking away, clicking away.
25:37But then once I figured out what he was doing, maybe made a couple adjustments for the second moto,
25:42then I was able to put in a much more solid ride, kind of like what hayden is doing right now.
25:49You talked about it earlier, j.T.
25:51This kind of racetrack is like that.
25:54You have to be very meticulous.
25:56And that equates to speed.
25:58Will?
26:01I was talking to his mechanic friend earlier on today and just asking about how many adjustments he makes,
26:06how much they were able to take from washougal where he had a great result last year into this year.
26:11And he said he's changed so much as a rider.
26:14They've learned so much.
26:16Really that data they had from last year hasn't been that valuable.
26:19So they're figuring this out as it goes along.
26:21And obviously we saw that with moto 1 making those suspension adjustments here.
26:25But he also told me for the most part, hayden is the one who makes the adjustments.
26:29And I know you're a big fan of that.
26:31He doesn't ask a whole lot from the team.
26:33He doesn't ask a whole lot from the bike.
26:35He's prepared to just be accountable for any of that and make the adjustments himself as a rider.
26:47We saw kitchen moving up.
26:54And now brown is about to do the same.
26:58And brown makes the pass.
27:00No surprise from a guy like pierce brown.
27:02A guy can ride a motorcycle just, you know, always in tough situations.
27:07Some self-induced.
27:09But you can never count that guy out.
27:12You're just waiting, waiting.
27:14A great ride by pierce.
27:16And again, a great ride by rider deep francisco.
27:18Both guys doing a fantastic job on a difficult racetrack.
27:22Here's the problem with brown.
27:24And he admitted it to me earlier this year.
27:26The starts have just never been good.
27:28I said to him at supercross, I'm like, man, you're riding really well.
27:30And he's like, well, the starts are as bad as usual.
27:32Maybe I'm riding good enough to where you actually notice me at the end of the race.
27:36But the starts are still a problem.
27:38And this is another example.
27:40He's really strong late in the motos.
27:42But I can't remember maybe one race, two races where we've seen brown up front at the start.
27:48During the covid times when we were at salt lake city for the last seven.
27:52Yeah, for the last seven races.
27:54I had an opportunity.
27:56I won a couple of our flex days to go on a mountain bike ride with him.
27:58Just a great kid.
28:00Really great kid.
28:02He's always smiling.
28:04Always happy.
28:07From motocross.
28:09Motocross.
28:11Sorry.
28:13Brought to you by motosport.com.
28:15The Washougal national.
28:17All part of the smx world championship.
28:19Here's brown.
28:21On the truly designed red bull gas gas.
28:23Made the move on his teammate.
28:25To move to fifth.
28:27So the overall podium will be the same as it was in both the first and second moto award.
28:32Rare, easy map.
28:35The 250 class.
28:37A 1-1, a 2-2, a 3-3.
28:39That almost never happens with these guys.
28:41Yeah, no mind benders.
28:43I was watching you guys last week.
28:45I had my pencil out trying to figure it out.
28:47And I gave up.
28:49Yeah, I think Cochran went 10-2 for third.
28:51A little easier today.
28:53So brown getting away from his teammate.
28:55Defrancisco.
28:57Oh, look at Ty masterful just coming over there in the stand-up position.
29:01He is done with.
29:03I think Romano just passed him.
29:05Yeah, but listen.
29:07At least he's out there.
29:09He's not giving up.
29:11Doing the best that he can.
29:13A lot of riders that are really looking forward to two weekends off.
29:17You think?
29:19So Romano who said he was lucky.
29:21He flew here on Thursday.
29:23There were so many travel problems throughout the country.
29:25He flew here early enough.
29:27Had no problems.
29:29And we're wondering what the future is for Romano.
29:31I'm not sure if he's going to be back.
29:33But star next year.
29:35He's a rider that two years ago in his rookie season as a pro was very strong.
29:37Top ten a lot.
29:39Then missed all of last year in the ACL.
29:41Then had a lot of time off with shoulder problems.
29:43Trying to get back to that level.
29:45You know, it's crucial times like that, J.T., where, you know, it can change the landscape of any of these athletes.
29:55When they're making that transition in the early years from their amateur to professional ranks, if they get injured and have multiple injuries, it takes so much time off.
30:05It's so hard to make that next advancement.
30:07Because you're spending so much time off the machine.
30:09And you just hate to see it.
30:11Because you know what these riders can do.
30:13You've watched them since they were five years old.
30:15And, you know, my heart feels for them sometimes.
30:17Just because of the situation.
30:19But sadly, that's racing.
30:21Yeah.
30:23And some of these groups have come up together.
30:25You see rider DeFrancisco.
30:27We talked about him coming up with Dallas Robertson.
30:29And that whole Bakersfield crew.
30:31The same thing was kind of with Romano.
30:33The age group of Romano.
30:35They all battled as amateurs.
30:37They were the same age.
30:39Every single race.
30:41Every single class.
30:43They were battling it out.
30:45Now they're all trying to find their way in this 250 class.
30:47So it's a battle of eras.
30:49The best part of all of that is once you move into the 450s.
30:51Once all these riders graduate.
30:53Guess what?
30:55It's the all-stars.
30:57It doesn't matter what era you were in.
30:59What age you are.
31:01Then we get to find out who's the best of the best.
31:03And that's what we always talk about.
31:05Hashtag deep field.
31:07When you get them all together.
31:09Look at Joey.
31:11Going strong.
31:13And he takes DeFrancisco.
31:15No contest for DeFrancisco.
31:17He didn't try to defend that position too much.
31:19But you go and you look at how the weekend has went so far.
31:21For the number 34.
31:23And it's a good run.
31:25That's been the last piece.
31:27For DeFrancisco.
31:29Those final maybe ten minutes of the motos.
31:31You just never know.
31:33Like when you see a lot of these young talented rookies come
31:35through the field.
31:37And come to the podium.
31:39You never know.
31:41When you see a lot of these young talented rookies come
31:43through the field.
31:45And come through the ranks.
31:47Of what's going to happen.
31:49A lot of people will ask me.
31:51What do you think about this guy?
31:53He was really good as an amateur.
31:55And I've seen guys that weren't that great at amateurs.
31:57Come out in the pro ranks.
31:59And adapt immediately.
32:01And then boom.
32:03They're just one of the best pros.
32:05And then vice versa.
32:07It's interesting.
32:09Well, to that end, we talk about the race leader.
32:11We'll show him here.
32:13Hayden Degan.
32:15He is essentially one.
32:17He won on 50, 65, 85 as an amateur.
32:19Went right into the pros last year.
32:21Had success immediately.
32:23That is actually more rare than you would think.
32:25To have the uninterrupted.
32:27The zero hitches in the development.
32:29I mean you and our colleague Gene Stewart did it.
32:31But honestly that does not happen very often.
32:33It's tough.
32:35It's tough.
32:37And it could have easily went the opposite way for me.
32:39For James.
32:41It really could have.
32:43You're just one fall away.
32:45One tip over away.
32:47Tearing an ACL.
32:49Blowing your shoulder out.
32:51Whatever it might be.
32:53You know.
32:55So.
32:57But we know Degan really establishing himself as the next
32:59star of this sport.
33:01The way he's taking control of the motocross.
33:03Show you how he tried to take control of the motocross.
33:05Show you how he tried to take control of the moto.
33:07With the motosport.com whole shot replay.
33:09Him battling D.L.
33:11He tried to close out kitchen.
33:13D.L. Was able to use his momentum.
33:15Sweep around the outside.
33:17But then right here you'll watch Hayden.
33:19Break.
33:21He'll check up.
33:23Get to the inside.
33:25Almost collides with the 34 of rider D.Francisco.
33:27Watch this.
33:29That's him on the outside.
33:31Gets tagged.
33:33Look at that.
33:35That right foot.
33:37There you go.
33:39And he has managed to get back into the race.
33:41He's 14th right now.
33:43That's good.
33:45I believe eight championship points for him.
33:47By gritting out the 14th place.
33:49And that will help with the playoff seating points as well.
33:51Hayden Degan.
33:53Riding some roads here.
33:55The last couple of weeks.
33:57Had some crashes.
33:59Some things in his control.
34:01Some things out of his control.
34:03He took control back today.
34:05And I know his confidence did not wane.
34:07Because things were out of his control.
34:09Like we said.
34:11But still.
34:13It's going to feel good to get it back.
34:15That might be the exact story I'm alluding to.
34:17Showed him today.
34:19Doesn't surprise me.
34:21It really doesn't.
34:23It's been fun to watch.
34:25Watch him.
34:27Watch him.
34:29It's been fun to watch.
34:31Watch him progress.
34:33And I respect how they're always continuing to learn.
34:35Trying different things.
34:37They would be down at the sandbox.
34:39Riding with Ken Roxon.
34:41Riding with.
34:43Or staying with Christian Craig.
34:45They're trying to learn.
34:47And I can appreciate that.
34:49I had a conversation with his dad.
34:51Not long ago.
34:53My feeling is.
34:55Not only it's always good to learn.
34:57He's just going to get better.
34:59Just by time and experience.
35:01He really is.
35:03Just through the progression of his career.
35:05And it's fun to watch.
35:07I appreciate it.
35:09Seeing that progression right now.
35:11Although.
35:13It's about the same as last year.
35:15Because this was the race where he dominated.
35:17And then it was almost an incomplete grade.
35:19After that.
35:21Had a bike failure at Unadilla last year.
35:23After this.
35:25Was way out front.
35:27At buds creek.
35:29Had a red flag restart.
35:31Crashed.
35:33This might have been the level he was about to go to anyway.
35:35But he has definitely done it.
35:37Outdoors in 2024.
35:39Yeah.
35:41Super motocross world champ from a year ago.
35:43But this is next level stuff.
35:45As he has really stretched the points lead.
35:47In the 250 division.
35:49And looking to make it back-to-back years.
35:51Winning washugel.
35:53What a great feeling right here.
35:55Just bringing it on to the checkered flag.
35:57Hard work.
35:59I haven't seen many 250 races where you can do that this year.
36:01They have been nail biters.
36:03But not today.
36:05Hayden Degen.
36:07Wins.
36:09And dominates.
36:11The end of the day at washugel.
36:13Throws in the goon ride.
36:15Jump over the finish.
36:17Here is vial.
36:19Great ride by tom vial as well.
36:21Shimoda lurking in the background.
36:23Good job for joe.
36:25Joe never gave up on it.
36:27Tried to run him down.
36:29And that will complete the podium today.
