25:24The final skaters representing Scarborough Figure Skating Club, please welcome Nadiya
25:38Benishka and Peter Beaumont.
25:42Here comes our last skaters of the event, Nadiya Benishka and Peter Beaumont representing
25:47the Scarborough Figure Skating Club.
26:18Really good job on the twizzles here. As you saw in the first twizzle, the arm movement
26:23to go with the twizzle itself really helps for bonus points when it comes to judges'
26:27marking. Good start by this team.
26:47Really good job on this side-by-side turn sequence. Working together, making sure they
27:04stay close together while doing all their turns all the way across the ice and adding
27:08in flair in between the turns. Excellent job here.
27:26Great job on the lift, switching position to position all the way through, not losing
27:30any speed.
27:56Transitioning now into the passo section of their rhythm dance. Good job just effortlessly
28:08integrating it into their program.
28:38Excellent work feeling the music going all the way through those steps that aren't necessarily
29:01a part of the actual free dance steps, but just those addition steps. Really feeling
29:09the music really helps to sell the overall performance.
29:17Great job by this team on this one, really selling the performance, selling the aspect
29:23of using the entire ice. You can definitely tell afterwards it takes a lot of energy,
29:28a lot of effort, but it really, really helps when it comes to scoring for judges, scoring
29:33for technical specialists and analysts, really looking at the overall program to see where
29:39the benefits are, where is the aspect that is really going to take this program to the
29:43next level.
29:44And it comes with seamlessly integrating the passo into the dance. You can tell there's
29:49times where there's just a couple of steps that they add in there, but all of a sudden
29:53they're going right back to what they had initially with their program and not losing
29:57a step, not losing a beat, transitioning with their higher levels, high, medium, low,
30:02definitely super important while not losing any speed is a huge boost to this program.
30:07I think the team will definitely be proud of what they put out here today.
30:37Yeah.
31:07Yeah.
31:38Yeah.
31:51Well, we've got a little time here. Skate Ontario gratefully acknowledges the support
31:55of our sponsors who help ensure that skating is front and center in the province of Ontario.
32:00Please consider supporting them. You can get more information on our sponsor page on our
32:04website, www.skateontario.org, or by checking out our sponsor reel during flood breaks in
32:10the broadcast.
32:12The rhythm dance score for Nadiya Vyshinska and Peter Gaumont, 68.0. Nadiya and Peter
32:33Gaumont in first place. The current unofficial ranking in third place from the Rideau Skating
32:45Club and the Nepean Skating Club, Gabriella Pelalecki and Tanner White. In second place
32:52from the Kitchener-Walker Skating Club, Alyssa Cornevo and Kiran McDonald. And in first place
32:59from the Scarborough Figure Skating Club, Nadiya Vyshinska and Peter Gaumont.
33:07And that will conclude our Senior Rhythm Dance category here at the July Sectional Series
33:12event. What a great category of skating and a huge congratulations to our medalists. We
33:17are hashtag Skate Ontario proud.
33:29Well for more information on the event, check us out on social media at Skate Ontario or
33:38visit our website, www.skateontario.org. Our next category coming up is going to be the
33:45Pre-Novice Pattern Dance.
33:51Good afternoon and welcome to Skate Ontario July Sectional Series at the Ball Recorder
33:56Recreation Complex hosted by Skate Ontario and the Gloucester Skating Club. Our next
34:01event is the Pre-Novice Dance Pattern Dance. We are pleased to introduce the officials
34:07for this event. The referee, John Stevenson. The judges, Sabrina Wong, Li Min Zhao, Christy
34:15Ball-Quill, Melissa Hood, Ron Conaker, Julia Mullins, and Eric Shibu. The technical controller,
34:24John Huck-Levy. I invite the following skaters to the ice for a three-minute warm-up.
34:33Piper Kahl and Noize Leshan. Stella Ferris and Elliot Rexheimer.
34:40Raphael Bachan and Nancy Espeja.
34:43Obedi Yadri and Zilong Wang.
34:47Emily Chin and Nathan Chin.
34:54Skaters, the tank.
35:18So for our pattern dance warm-up, what is going to happen is all five of these teams
35:23out here are going to be working on both of their pattern dances, which are the Harris
35:28Tango and the Starlight Waltz. Just as they go through the entirety of their list, making
35:36sure that everything works together, the team stays close together, and ice usage super,
35:41super important when it comes to the pattern dance.
36:23When it comes to practicing both of these dances on the warm-up, it's super important
36:45that you take sort of two different perspectives for it. Because it is a tango and a waltz,
36:50there are two different ways you want to skate it. For a tango, you're going to be looking
36:53for sharper movements. You want to make sure that everything is sharp together, turns are
36:58sharpened together, the togetherness of the team. You have a strong emotional connection
37:04with the music, and you're making sure that that matches it when you do the Harris Tango.
37:08Going over to the Starlight Waltz, that's going to be a bit more free-flowing. It's
37:13a longer dance as it ends up going around the entirety of the ice following the boards.
37:19But on that Starlight Waltz, making sure that it's not danced the same way as your
37:24Harris Tango. You're not going to have as sharp of movements. You want it to flow.
37:29You're still going to have leg extension. You're still going to have your upper body
37:33up, but you're not going to have the sharp movements that you're seeing in these Harris
37:37Tango practices.
37:39Skaters, the warm-up time has ended. Please leave the ice. Thank you.
37:49Please welcome the first competitors, representing Skate Canada, Brampton Shing-Koozee, Piper
38:05Craw and Muaz Zeshan.
38:09Here comes Piper and Muaz, representing the Brampton Shing-Koozee skating center.
38:19You can tell right off the beginning, getting that sharp focus.
38:42As we come to the first part of the dance, sharp movements. Bring those feet in nice
38:46and close together, but not lose any tension in the arms, making sure everything stays
38:51together. Stay as a unit the entirety of the dance.
39:11Good job on the next pattern.
39:40Keeping that position the same and keeping the pattern size the same on all times. Consistency
39:45is super important in pattern dances.
39:53Overall, very solid skate by Piper and Muaz there.
39:58Piper Craw and Muaz Zeshan.
40:09You can see as you watch that, the togetherness that they had on the dance and the seriousness
40:15they had in their face. Emotion is super important when it comes to any level of dance, but especially
40:20at a lower level like this, it can become super important.
40:24As you saw previously at the senior rhythm dance, there's a lot of emotion, a lot of
40:28expression on it. The pre-novice pattern dance, obviously you won't be seeing the same level,
40:32but it's still instilled in the skaters from coaches to make sure that you focus on the
40:38emotion aspect. Don't go out there looking like a robot. You want to make sure that you
40:42are actually feeling the music, making sure everything works together. You keep that strong
40:48frame as you go all the way through in your two patterns of the Harris take.
41:18Piper Craw and Muaz Zeshan.
41:48When judges look at these dances, it's just to see where the togetherness is.
42:03Let's take a look at the results.
42:17Here comes our next skater, representing the Scarborough Figure Skating Center, Stella and Elliot.
42:32Here comes our next skater, representing the Scarborough Figure Skating Center, Stella and Elliot.
43:02Good job of this team matching their extension of their stretches going through as they get to the end of their first pattern.
43:15Staying close together, good ice usage as they come across.
43:19See if they can repeat it as they get down to their second round of dance.
43:33Good job.
43:36Good job.
43:38Good job.
43:40Good job.
44:03Good job of Stella and Elliot there in their Harris tango.
44:07Really keeping it consistent as they went down to the other side.
44:10They used the whole ice very well, especially when you notice these taller teams.
44:16You want to make sure that they've got the extension all the way through their legs.
44:20They're not playing down to the dance, rather they're skating up to the dance.
44:24Super important.
44:25And one of the things that judges will really look at when it comes to the marking of these taller teams is they're stretching their legs all the way through.
44:33It's really easier for a smaller team to have a stretch.
44:38You won't have to stretch your legs out as far.
44:40For taller skaters, you've really got to make sure you're stretching your leg out all the way.
44:44Don't have any knee bend hidden in there, especially for parts as you're going through on swing rolls, turns together.
44:51The scores for the first team are 20.58 in the tango.
45:07The score for Stella Ferris and Elliot Weinstein in the tango, 25.0.
45:14Stella and Elliot are currently in first place.
45:19Please welcome the next competitors.
45:23Representing Braumont-sur-Glace, Raphael Bachin and Mathis Bachin.
45:29Here comes our next skaters, Raphael and Mathis, representing Braumont-sur-Glace.
45:48Another thing people notice is the different types of tangos that these teams use when it comes to this Harris Tango Dance.
46:10There's no set specific Harris Tango that you need to use as long as it fits the meet criteria.
46:15Another example of a different dance here is making sure you hit all your turns properly.
46:25Stay close together as they get into their second pattern.
46:28Really want to try and get down in your knees.
46:30Show the progression from having a sharp up and then bend down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
46:45Stay close together as they get into their second pattern.
46:48Really want to try and get down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
46:51Show the progression from having a sharp up and then bend down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
46:56Really want to try and get down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
46:59Stay close together as they get into their second pattern.
47:02Really want to try and get down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
47:05Stay close together as they get into their second pattern.
47:08Really want to try and get down in your knees on your turns, on your crosses.
47:11Stay close together as they get into their second pattern.
47:14Rafael Bachan and Matisse Bachan.
47:31Good job there by Raf and Matisse.
47:34Just really showcasing their usage all the way across the ice.
47:39Another thing that's an interesting dynamic when it comes to creating teams is sort of the height balance
47:44when you see between a taller skater and a shorter skater working together.
47:49You want to make sure that one doesn't overshadow the other when it comes to extensions,
47:54when it comes to blade pushing.
47:56You want to make sure both teams are working together rather than one skater being pulled across the ice.
48:01Our team here did a pretty good job of making sure that both of them are skating together in unison
48:05rather than one sort of pulling the other through.
48:08As we wait on their results.
48:39The score for Rafael Bachan and Matisse Bachan in the Tango,
48:4424.30.
48:47Rafael and Matisse are currently in second place.
48:53Please welcome the next competitors,
48:55representing Le Club du Petsnage Alcistique Estique,
48:59Odeli Naderi and Zalong Wang.
49:02Here comes our next skaters, Odeli and Zalong.
49:32The sharpness in the legs is very good by this team here as they skate across the ice,
49:46down into the corner, keeping everything close together.
49:50Nice tight movements set back at the warm up.
49:53You really want tight movements and tight precision skating, especially in a Harris Tango.
49:58Great job here as they get now into their second round.
50:28Odeli Naderi and Zalong Wang.
50:55That was a good skate by Odeli and Zalong,
50:57really using the entirety of the ice,
51:00making sure that both of their patterns were super succinct,
51:03put together sharp movements,
51:05especially in the legs, getting down into their knees,
51:07not wasting any power going across.
51:10They should be rewarded with a good score.
51:25The score for Odeli Naderi and Zalong Wang for the Tango,
51:3025.49.
51:33Odeli and Zalong are currently in first place.
51:37The next competitors represent Skate Canada Brampton-Chincousey.
51:44Please welcome Emily Chin and Nathan Chin.
51:48Here comes our final skaters of the event,
51:51Emily and Nathan Chin representing Skate Canada Brampton-Chincousey,
51:55our second representatives from Skate Canada Brampton-Chincousey of the event.
