00:00The Home Secretary as well has released a statement that Yvette Cooper, the new Labour Home Secretary,
00:04she's the MP in Pontefract now, far from here.
00:07She said that police have backing to take the strongest possible action after last night's incident.
00:13So in a statement, she said the scenes of criminality and disorder in Leeds last night were disgraceful,
00:19including attacks on police vehicles and public transport, and will have been very distressing for local residents.
00:27Those responsible must face the full force of the law, and West Yorkshire Police have my support in pursuing the perpetrators
00:33and taking the strongest possible action against them.
00:37Local partners are meeting this morning and the police, the mayor and local councillors will be working closely with the community
00:43to provide support and reassurance and prevent further disturbances.
00:48So the Home Secretary continued,
00:56I support the local agencies and residents who are working to resolve problems and prevent escalation.
