00:00Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?
00:11Hey everyone, I'm Rebecca and welcome to WatchMojo.
00:13Today we're counting down our picks for the top 20 most re-watched scenes in action movies.
00:30For this list, we'll be looking at scenes in action movies that are entertaining or
00:48stylish or have some behind-the-scenes element that'll make you want to watch it over and
00:52over again.
00:53We will be excluding superhero movies, though, because those deserve a list of their own.
00:59And also, if you want to tell us in the comments which action movie scene you re-watch over
01:03and over again, please do so.
01:06Let's get to it.
01:12What a brilliant introduction to the new era of 007.
01:15In his first action scene as James Bond, Daniel Craig chases his target through a construction
01:20yard, parkouring over buildings, cranes, scaffolding and more as they fight in one of the most
01:26stunning cinematic experiences ever seen in a Bond movie.
01:36Interestingly, the actor who played Bond's target in this scene, Sébastien Foucault,
01:40is an actual free-runner and early developer of parkour.
01:45Everyone involved went all out in making this opening action scene one to not only rival
01:49previous Bond movies, but to surpass them.
01:56This beautifully stylized scene captures the mood and aesthetic of Zack Snyder's 300
02:08perfectly.
02:09The brutal combat as the Persians try to push through the Spartans showcases the strength
02:13of the so-called 300, setting the stage for why this movie is so well regarded.
02:18It's not just the action, but the badass one-liners that the Spartan characters utter
02:22while kicking butt, that make this movie so delightful.
02:30Interestingly, according to History, those laconic statements were very in-character
02:34for the Spartans.
02:35And indeed, the word laconic is derived from Laconia, the region that Sparta ruled.
02:40It's fun to think that the real Spartans could have been just as dramatic as Gerard Butler.
02:5218. Opening Chase – Baby Driver
03:01Sometimes a director utilizes their medium perfectly and manages to craft a scene that
03:05will stick with viewers for years to come.
03:08The opening of Baby Driver is one of those scenes.
03:11The song Bell Bottoms accompanies Baby's incredible driving as he helps his criminal
03:15friends escape their successful bank robbery.
03:23Apparently, this opening chase and its musical accompaniment were the very first inklings
03:28of what this movie would be, as Edgar Wright used to sit and listen to Bell Bottoms and
03:32imagine an elaborate car escape.
03:41It's an amazingly inventive scene and definitely worth a few watches to see how precisely they
03:47match the beat of the music with the action on the screen.
03:5017. Stealing the Vault – Fast Five
03:53Here's another epic car chase to make the list.
03:56While the Fast and Furious franchise is responsible for a lot of incredible action scenes, this
04:01one is just so creative.
04:02The characters steal a bank vault, attach it to the back of their vehicle, and then
04:06use the vault as a very large bludgeon and shield in their escape.
04:10This epic car chase couldn't be more visually entertaining to watch, as their enemies get
04:14smashed up by the very vault they're trying to take back.
04:17The typical style and flash of the Fast and Furious series are on full display in this
04:21incredible scene.
04:2316. Temple Escape – Raiders of the Lost Ark
04:26Here's another epic car chase to make the list.
04:29While the Fast and Furious franchise is responsible for a lot of incredible action scenes, this
04:33one is just so creative.
04:34The characters steal a bank vault, attach it to the back of their vehicle, and then
04:38use the vault as a very large bludgeon and shield in their escape.
04:41This epic car chase couldn't be more visually entertaining to watch, as their enemies get
04:45smashed up by the very vault they're trying to take back.
04:47The typical style and flash of the Fast and Furious series are on full display in this
04:52Raiders of the Lost Ark.
04:54It was hard to choose just one scene from this legendary series, what with Indy's
04:58fantastic tank chase sequence as well.
05:17But this classic Temple Escape spawned so many homages and parodies that it's not
05:21hard to see why it's on the list.
05:23This opening scene sets the tone for the movie and indeed for the entire Indiana Jones
05:27franchise.
05:28The famed explorer cleverly sniffs out traps before being forced to run from the crumbling
05:32temple and the rolling boulders.
05:34This scene is so much fun to rewatch because of its classic nature, but also because it's
05:40fun to see how many traps and obstacles Indiana Jones must overcome in such a short period
05:45of time.
05:46This scene at the beginning of Speed is intense for a number of reasons.
05:50The speed of the vehicle can be felt throughout the movie and the way it's seen in the
05:55film.
05:56It's the same speed that's used in a lot of the other films, and it's why the
05:59characters are so breath-taking.
06:01In fact, it's the same speed that's used in the movie, and it's the same speed
06:05that's used in the film.
06:07It's the same speed that's used in the movie, and it's the same speed that's
06:10used in the movie.
06:11This scene at the beginning of Speed is intense for a number of reasons.
06:22The stakes are already high for the characters, but Keanu Reeves insisted on doing this stunt,
06:28jumping from a moving car into a moving bus, even rehearsing it in secret so the director
06:33wouldn't know.
06:34He surprised director Jan de Bont by doing it himself the day of the shoot, which we
06:37imagine was a highly terrifying moment for the Hollywood director.
06:41This scene is one of the greatest of the classic 90s action movies, starring a terrific action
06:46star who put himself in danger to get the shot.
06:52This scene gets a ton of praise, and it's well
07:07deserved.
07:09Shot with very few cuts, the fight choreography had to be tight, and with dozens of people
07:13involved and a camera moving in and out of the action, that is not easy.
07:24But it's worth it because this scene is a masterpiece.
07:26Colin Firth's character Galahad gets a chance to shine and show off just how incredible
07:31a super spy he really is, in some of the most brutal finishers we've seen.
07:36The icing on the cake is Leonard Skinner's free bird accompanying the action.
07:46The scene is so well made and fun that it simply never gets old.
07:55This is the movie where the legend of Chuck Norris began.
07:58All Chuck Norris jokes aside, this was the man's film debut, and what an entrance onto
08:03the stage.
08:12A legendary almost 10 minute martial arts fight between these two is sure to get a rewatch.
08:17Interestingly, Bruce Lee popularized a new move during this fight with Chuck Norris called
08:21the oblique kick, which would go on to be used by many MMA fighters who cited Lee as
08:26their inspiration.
08:36This fight is fun, brutal, and hilarious at times, with Bruce ripping out Norris' chest
08:42hair.
08:43Truly, this is a battle of legends.
08:49Continuous takes are tricky to pull off and not always worth the time and money, but when
08:54they work, they work.
09:03This 3 minute fight through a crowded corridor took 17 takes in 3 days to pull off, and there
09:08are no cuts or edits at all, save a digitally rendered knife in the back.
09:21It's impressive to do such a long continuous take, but with so many actors involved in
09:25the scene, the choreography had to be tight and performed well, and they blew it out of
09:30the water.
09:31The result is a scene that is incredibly rewatchable, filled with brutal fighting from a man armed
09:37only with a hammer.
09:46This iconic scene from the original spawned a number of copycat scenes, but it is a
09:51marvelous scene in its own right.
09:53While the Mission Impossible series has plenty of incredible action scenes that Tom Cruise
09:56really did, such as the terrifying time he hung onto a plane in Rogue Nation, this one
10:01is so classic and so fresh.
10:04It features Tom Cruise doing his own stunts, hanging precariously from a rope as he cracks
10:08the vault.
10:16The tension in this scene as the protagonists have to deal with close calls and the fear
10:20that things could go wrong make this eminently rewatchable.
10:38Based on the life of the legendary martial artist and teacher of Bruce Lee, Ip Man, this
10:42incredible action scene pits the hero against ten black belts in one of the most breathtaking
10:47fight scenes on our list.
10:57The dazzling choreography, the brutal sound effects as Ip breaks bones and snaps necks,
11:03and the dramatic music all combine to make an unforgettable tour de force.
11:13Seeing Donnie Yen, an incredible martial artist in his own right, take center stage is the
11:18cherry on top of this perfect scene.
11:27This brutal final duel to the death is tightly choreographed and shot well.
11:31The long kitchen fight begins with fists, but ends in deadly fashion with knives.
11:47It's tracked well by great camera shots that don't have too many cuts in between them,
11:51letting the brutal and incredible fight speak for itself.
12:03This scene is on the rewatch list due to how many great moves there are and how evenly
12:07matched it is.
12:08At no point in this fight is it clear who's going to come out on top, as both characters
12:13give it their all and hold on by the skin of their teeth to survive.
12:22This beautiful movie has other incredible scenes, such as the duel between Yu Shulian
12:26and Zhao Long.
12:27While that is a fantastic set piece, what makes the treetop fight worth a rewatch is
12:31the knowledge that the actors are really up there in the trees, suspended by wires dueling
12:36it out.
12:37This stunt work gives the fight a mystical, ethereal quality, as if the two opponents
12:41are legendary spirits who are light as a feather.
12:51Seriously, watch this scene again and just try to imagine the courage and skill you'd
12:58need to pull off this scene.
13:10Honestly, this whole movie is worth numerous rewatches.
13:16It's just that good.
13:17While we had a number of great scenes to choose from, like the ever-quoted yippee-ki-yay where
13:21our hero intimidates Hans Gruber, John McClane's leap from the tower is incredibly iconic.
13:37Interestingly, this scene was one of the very first Bruce Willis actually filmed.
13:50McClane's death-defying escape from the roof is one to rewatch as the stakes are high,
13:54it is shot extraordinarily well, and it would come to inspire many homages.
13:59This scene could also double as one of the most re-watched scenes in a Christmas movie.
14:14This mind-bending action scene was one of the highlights of this inventive movie when
14:18it came out.
14:19While a lot of the movie is set up in exposition, it all pays off once the action gets going.
14:24Seeing the different levels of characters going through their own struggles, which affect
14:28the others, adds a layer of complexity.
14:31The van flips, so Joseph Gordon-Levitt's dreaming character needs to now contend with
14:35his enemies in a hallway that flips along with the moving vehicle.
14:53It's all very creative, and the blaring soundtrack in the back adds to the suspense.
15:15While The Bride doesn't need to slay exactly 88 enemies in this scene, it's still around
15:21and to beat those odds is impressive, to say the least.
15:24This scene is so re-watchable because seeing Uma Thurman tear through the Yakuza like an
15:28absolute beast is such a joy.
15:39This unbelievable scene took eight weeks to shoot, and was made mostly with practical
15:43effects that would have been used in classic Chinese action films of the 70s as an homage
15:47to them.
15:48It's hard not to feel for The Bride and how exhausted she looks after absolutely annihilating
15:52the crazy 88, realizing she has one more foe.
16:12This whole movie is one long car chase, and an astounding one at that.
16:16The beginning of the chase for Imperator Furiosa and the epic sandstorm are some of the best
16:21scenes in the movie.
16:35The truly amazing thing about this movie is just how much of it is made with practical
16:39effects, which really lends the movie a gritty, realistic feel.
16:43The cars are all real, as are most of the costumes, and a lot of the stunts were done
16:48with the cars.
16:49Knowing the hard, grueling work that went into some of these shots out in the desert
16:53really makes you want to re-watch just to see the hard work the actors and crew are
16:57partaking in.
17:19We know the entire John Wick series belongs on this list, but this scene is a perfect
17:23representation for the film saga.
17:25John Wick takes out an entire club of goons in a masterful display of skill and choreography,
17:31and all of it is taken with a steady camera and no quick cuts.
17:35The club music in the background adds an interesting dynamic to the work.
17:44The most re-watchable elements are just seeing all the interesting and realistic quirks in
17:48this fight.
17:49Everyone has to reload, and sometimes an enemy gets a hit in on John.
18:01This realism is what makes them so much fun to revisit.
18:10This heart-pounding chase sequence follows immediately from the mall scene, where it's
18:14revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator is actually here to save John Connor.
18:22While that scene is also legendary, it's this motorcycle chase that Terminator fans
18:26revisit over and over again.
18:45It's one of the first times we see the Terminator as a good guy in action.
18:49Interestingly, a river had to be redirected for this scene, as they were filming in what
18:54would otherwise be wet canals.
18:56The Terminator series is well known for its incredible action scenes, but this one has
19:00the greatest re-watch value.

19:39It's the scene with a thousand references, parodies, and homages.
19:43While modern action movie fans may not see the appeal, when this scene happened in theaters
19:47back in 1999, people's minds were blown.
19:54The filmmakers dubbed this bullet time, a method of using slow motion in a scene, while
19:59keeping the camera at normal speed to show the heightened senses and movements of the
20:02character Neo.
20:11This scene may be one of the most re-watched in history, and certainly one of the most
20:15inspirational scenes in modern action movies, and for good reason.
20:19It was a trailblazer, and set the stage for hundreds of action movies to come.
20:32Two out of the three top three involve Keanu Reeves, and he's in another entry on this
20:38list.
20:39What can I say?
20:40He's an action movie god.
20:41I don't know.

20:46again.
