00:00Well, we head now north to Chicago, where the week started off hot and stormy.
00:05Now comfortable temperatures have arrived right in time for the all-important weekend.
00:10AccuWeather's Emmy Victor shows us how people are taking advantage of the cooler weather
00:14in the Windy City.
00:18This is the moment millions of people have been waiting for.
00:21Relief from the heat has finally arrived for cities like Chicago.
00:25People have been wasting no time getting outdoors to enjoy the milder summer weather.
00:29I'm enjoying it.
00:31I come to this park when it's nice out and I have the day off.
00:34I live in the neighborhood, so yeah, there's a pool right there.
00:37When I get hot, I just jump in and yeah.
00:40I saw dozens of people enjoying the sun at a local park.
00:44Ella Savie recently moved to the Chicago area from Minnesota.
00:48She said the weather now is great compared to the heat and storms earlier this week.
00:52Chicago weather's up and down.
00:54It's raining some days, beautiful the next.
00:56You really just got to go with the flow.
00:59It's been super humid, but it's cooled down a little bit.
01:02Today it's kind of bearable outside.
01:04It's not too humid.
01:05You can enjoy the weather peacefully.
01:07With milder temperatures expected for the time being, I asked people I met what their
01:11plans were this weekend.
01:13The lists included touring the city, going for a hike, and working outside.
01:18Their plans all easier to accomplish thanks to the cooler weather.
01:21Reporting in Chicago for AccuWeather, I'm Emmy Victor.
01:25All right, Emmy, all sounds like good ideas there.
01:29Take advantage of that nice, comfortable air while it is here.
01:33Still some storms in the mix as we go throughout this evening and also into tonight along the
01:37High Plains and along the Front Range, stretching from Rapid City south into New Mexico and
01:42into far northwestern Texas.
01:45By and large, much of the Midwest Great Lakes will be benefiting, if you want to break from
01:51the heat and the humidity, with numbers that will be dropping down into the 50s even for
01:55downtown Chicago.
01:57Look at that, 56 in Green Bay, 50s in Indianapolis, Des Moines dropping down to 58 degrees, lots
02:03and lots of sunshine again on the way as we venture our way into Friday.
02:07There will be that rivet of storms, like I mentioned here, back to the west right along
02:11Interstate 25, so areas toward Bismarck and also Scotts Bluff looking at some of the wet
02:16weather with the humidity on the increase.
02:18But surrounding high pressure and stretching right into the northeast, it's going to be
02:22a dandy of a day.
02:25Thunderstorms back in the equation though Friday, again now running a little further
02:29east as thunderstorms are going to spill their way, perhaps as far to the east as far western
02:34Minnesota and extreme northwestern Iowa.
02:38The primary concerns we have here would be for slow-moving thunderstorms that could cause
02:42flash flooding, hail as a possibility, and localized damaging winds topping 60 mph.
02:48Some of the winds here could be particularly damaging, upwards of 70-plus mph, but again
02:53we're not looking at anything overly active.
02:56There's some risk implying severe thunderstorms in parts of the area.
