00:00One of the things that really stuck out to us as we visited this part of
00:04Western North Carolina is the tremendous support from people around
00:08surrounding states and around the country. We ran into a couple that came
00:11in from Charleston South Carolina just to deliver toys in time for Christmas.
00:17They are just one of hundreds of volunteers that have taken time off,
00:21have used their own vacation time to come to this area of North Carolina to
00:26try and give back to the community that they love so much. We have been
00:30collecting items for the needy here and have collected toys and bought toys for
00:37the kids here for Christmas. If you look around and there's not a lot of good
00:42here, try to make somebody happy. At least bring happiness to a family or an area.
00:49Whatever we can do to help. Hearing it and seeing it are two entirely different
00:55things. It's devastating. It makes us know this is why we need to be
01:01here and maybe we need to come back. So much of this area of course in great
01:05need and there is of course a large concerted effort to give kids in this
01:10community a good holiday season. So the toy drives are ongoing. There's also food
01:15drives and donation drives. They really are trying to stress though that folks
01:19donate new unused items and not so much gently used clothing. They have way too
01:25much of that they said. What they're really looking is for those new items
01:28and other types of gifts that they can give to the community as the holiday
01:33approaches. Reporting from Swannanoa, North Carolina, I'm Leslie Hudson for
