00:00Residents in Bramley Walk, Skegness, say they are losing sleep because they fear subsidy
00:07is causing their gardens to gradually slip into a dike.
00:12They say for 10 years they have raised their concerns with the local authorities and last
00:18week they called on the help of new MP for Boston and Skegness, Richard Tice.
00:23Yeah, the line of the fence, as you can see, all the fence is leaning that way, which obviously
00:32indicates that the ground is moving.
00:36Yeah, you're worried that your garden is slipping into the dike?
00:40Well, the worry is that we can't stabilise it.
00:44We've asked East Lindsay over the years to stabilise the dike.
00:49When we started we said, look, not bothered about the fence, you stabilise the dike and
00:54we will replace the fence, no cost to East Lindsay.
00:57Well, once again, just ignored us.
01:00They will not do anything about it and consistently deny responsibility.
01:06In spite of all the photos we have of the diggers, which are their photos by the way,
01:10they're East Lindsay photos, we didn't take them.
01:13And the other thing is that East Lindsay did this work.
01:18This is East Lindsay's land on this side of the fence.
01:23This is my land on this side of the fence, but I have taken advice from a barrister and
01:32they said don't do anything.
01:33I wanted to build a barrier down here, a concrete barrier, and they said you mustn't do anything
01:40because it's not on your land.
01:41They can come along and remove it and if there's any damage to their land or to anybody
01:50else's land, I will be responsible because I'm interfering with East Lindsay's land.
01:58So I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea.
02:01We can't stabilise the dike and we can't stop the fences moving.
02:07You told Skegness town councillors you were losing sleep over this.
02:12Certainly, over the years, I mean the 15 years it's gone on, it's on your mind all the time.
02:17You never, ever, if there's something that's keeping you awake and you're not sleeping
02:22very well, the first thing that's on your mind when you're waking up, 3, 4, 5 o'clock
02:27in the morning, whatever it is, the first thing that comes into your mind, the dike,
02:32the fence.
02:33You just can't get away from it.
02:35It's like a worm in your brain.
02:37I've lived here for 27 years and the garden was dead straight.
02:44And now, as you can see, it's gone sloping about 18 inches difference to what it was.
02:50My back garden, where the land slippage is such that the garage footings are exposed.
02:59I'll just bring the camera around.
03:01People can actually see how it's all slipping away.
03:08I understand that the fence that you've got up already, that's already been moved.
03:13People have moved two feet nearer the bungalow.
03:18Now that's slipping away up to that level as well now.
03:24So we're here dealing with an issue that's been ongoing for over a decade now in one
03:29of the ditches leading into South Drain here in Skegness.
03:32I've got an idea of the problem.
03:34I've been talking to some of the people who could hopefully resolve this.
03:38I've only been in place for a week.
03:40I'm on it.
03:41East Lindsay District Council told Lincolnshire World the council is aware of the historic
03:46situation at Bramley Walk and has taken expert advice regarding the matter.
03:53The council said it has no plans to undertake any works to individual fences or boundary
03:59treatments in the area at this time.
04:03The matter is also to be discussed in private session at Skegness Town Council's Management
04:08Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 24th.
