00:09Quiet, quiet, quiet in the
00:10tropics right now, not only in
00:11the Atlantic Basin, but I'll
00:13tell you where it's been very
00:15quiet where it's usually active.
00:17That is in the eastern Pacific.
00:19I want to take you out to the
00:20right now. We are watching this
00:21little cluster of rain and
00:24thunderstorms, but. I don't
00:25think that's going to develop
00:26and I really don't see anything
00:28week ago with Barrow. The tropical Pacific, not only in the eastern Pacific, but even
00:34the western Pacific has been quiet as well. Now in the eastern Pacific, here we go, we've
00:38only had one storm so far this year. That was a letter, that is it. That's all we've
00:44had. Just to let you know how slow of a start it is in the eastern Pacific, this is the
00:50first time since 1972 we've only had one storm this late in the season. Quiet, quiet, quiet.
01:00Also pretty quiet across the Atlantic right now. Now so far, it's been a little busy,
01:04three storms. It's a little bit above where we should be for this time of year. Two tropical
01:09storms, Alberto and Chris, and then we had Hurricane Barrow that did the number on Texas.
01:14Just to let you know what we would normally see. Usually we have that third storm first
01:19week in August, the first hurricane the second week in August, and usually by now we have
01:24two named storms. So again, we're running a little bit above where we should be. Here's
01:28why the Atlantic is quiet. A lot of dry air from Africa all the way toward the Caribbean.
01:33We also have wind shear, that dark purple area showing you that. So with dry air and
01:38wind shear, it doesn't matter that water temperatures are warm, we're not looking for any development.
01:43And just take a look at the Atlantic Basin right now. We are tracking a few tropical
01:47waves, but we're not looking for any of them to develop over the next couple of days. We'll
01:53keep an eye on it.
