00:00The construction of the Balabac Air Base, which is one of the four new EDCA sites in the country, is about to be completed, according to President Bongbong Marcos.

00:08In the meantime, China confirmed that it has a new agreement with the Philippines to properly discuss maritime issues.

00:21Construction of the Balabac Air Base in Palawan started in 2019.

00:25It was also covered in the GMA Integrated News in 2023.

00:30After it was declared as one of the four new facilities to be used under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement or EDCA.

00:36In its share of aid to those affected by El Nino in Palawan and Marinduque today, President Bongbong Marcos ordered the completion of the runway in the Balabac Air Base.

00:46The construction of the Balabac Military Runway is just in the last part, especially since the role of Palawan in national security is very important.

00:57The Balabac and the second EDCA site in Palawan is located in the eastern part of Palawan, plus Antonio Bautista Air Base in Puerto Princesa City.

01:05As an EDCA site, it can be used as a US military facility to position airplanes or ships and other equipment.

01:14But it cannot be used as a permanent base.

01:16Aside from the Balabac, the President also said that his administration prioritizes the construction of the airport in Pagasa Island.

01:23Of course, our priority is to promote tourism in your province and to improve the transportation routes here.

01:34We will do this through the Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project and Pagasa Island Airport Development Project.

01:43Through the strengthening of the government in the defense of the country, the strengthening of the ways to talk to the Philippines and China.

01:51The Chinese Foreign Ministry also confirmed the new agreement between the two countries that provides a way to open their communication channels on maritime issues.
