00:00Hey there everybody, Derek Zanetti here reporting live from the Cobra Lounge in Chicago, Illinois.
00:15Out on tour with Callis Dowboys and 68.
00:17Let me show you guys the van.
00:19Well this is Josh from 68.
00:20This is his van and he's the driver mostly and yeah we're all in here and on the long
00:27super long drives we have pillows and sleeping bags back there.
00:31Sometimes we were sleeping in the van overnight.
00:33Sometimes we were staying in a truck stop.
00:34Every once in a while we get a fancy hotel.
00:36This is a real punk rock situation.
00:38We're really out there running the gambit.
00:41The passenger seat is just filled with a bunch of like stuff.
00:45Our toiletry bags and a cooler that's filled with soda water and dark chocolate and we're
00:52up here just listening to songs.
00:53What's our favorite Pearl Jam record?
00:54They answer Vitology.
00:56I listen to a bunch of Nirvana, I listen to a bunch of old Sam Cooke records and I'm in
01:02the bench right behind here and Josh and I are usually spending time just chit chatting
01:06and catching up and the other guys in the back are in their own world too.
01:10So it's kind of like a separation type of a thing between row one and row two and then
01:15row three, four and five are in their own world.
01:18You can see here in the door, that's where we keep our dark chocolate and well it's empty
01:24but we're not sponsored by La Croix but if anybody out there is from the soda world,
01:30we love free soda water.
01:31This is my bench here.
01:33This is my gluten free bread that I make my sandos with.
01:37Peanut butter and jelly, sometimes I'll get like a pickle and cheese.
01:42And this is, you know, sometimes I like to lounge back here.
01:45This is a padded mat which I'll put on here if I'm going to go ahead and take a nap and
01:48my blankets right here too.
01:50I've been drawing on this tour a whole bunch.
01:52I have my pens and my markers and my paints and on these long drives, some of these drives
01:57have been 15 and 16 hours.
02:00So I'm just here in my own thoughts, making some art, being creative.
02:04It's been a true gem and a delight.
02:07So at home I've been painting on some large canvases but since I've been on tour I just
02:12have my notebook here with me, my sketch pad and I draw maybe six or seven drawings a day
02:17and I have them available at the souvenir stand and you can go ahead up there and grab
02:21one and put one, people have been putting them in their bathrooms, they've been putting
02:24them in their verandas, they've been putting them in their mud rooms.
02:27There's some people that have put them on their dining room tables and putting them
02:32up all over their homes and tagging me on the internet too which is nice.
02:35One thing that's super important not just on tour but in life is to make sure that you're
02:40drinking that water.
02:41Water is the original energy soda.
02:43Two shots of hydrogen, one shot of oxygen.
02:46They've had the same exact recipe since the third day and they've never changed it.
02:50We keep a good bit of it here.
02:52We get them for free from the venues and this is my pee bottle.
02:56Sometimes you're on a long trip and you can't stop every other hour for five different people
03:01and sometimes you have to pee in a bottle so I've been doing that too.
03:07In the bunk behind me here, this is Ethan.
03:09Ethan does all the VIP-ing and also takes care of all the souvenirs and Ethan, we call
03:15him DJ Snooze a lot.
03:17He loves to go ahead and have a sleep.
03:19We call him Triple Z but most of the time, Ethan's here.
03:23His job is super duper hard.
03:24The count in, the count out, selling t-shirts so he's on the rest tip right here.
03:30Ethan has his sleeping pads here too.
03:32I have mine here.
03:34Josh has his up here in the front and everybody has theirs on their respective blankets and
03:39pillows and mats as well.
03:42The next to last bench is Nico and Nico is the drummer for 68 and he loves to eat sardines
03:50and bagged Uncle Ben's boil rice.
03:53So sometimes whenever we're on a long trip, you can start to smell those sardines.
03:57I don't ever mention anything because, you know, you do the best that you can but you
04:01can notice that sardine smell after a while.
04:06And the last bench back there, that belongs to JD Justin who is our tour manager.
04:11What a sweet boy, a southern gentleman.
04:13He holds it all together.
04:15He makes sure all the shows are advanced.
04:17He makes sure that we have water in the green room.
04:20He makes sure that we all get food every night and then he's the one who packs the trailer
04:24as well.
04:26Hard working fellas, punk rock is the priority, making sure that we're at the show on time
04:31to get a good show in for the folks who came out to see us.
04:35Not just tonight here in Chicago but many shows on this tour have all been sold out
04:38which is a great blessing and the hard working crew that accompanies a tour like this really
04:43does make it possible.
04:45You'll notice here that we do have these sun shields.
04:49Sometimes we sleep in a truck stop and you'll see on the window there's been some tape here
04:54to try and hold them up there and yeah, they just block the sun out so that we can get
05:00that good sleep until about 9am until we have to hit the road again.
05:04Another thing that you need to know about if you're going to be in a punk band is that
05:08you have to be really good at Tetris.
05:11You have to be able to fit all the gear in there in a very specific way because it isn't
05:15a huge trailer, it's kind of a small one and once you have all the t-shirts and all the
05:20gear and all the guitars and all the drum, how specific you have to be about the pack
05:26is super duper important and Justin and Ethan do a great job of making sure that it is in
05:31there.
05:32But we all load out.
05:33Everybody from the tour manager to myself, we're all doing the hard work that it takes
05:37to make it go.
05:38This is the last Homeless Gospel Choir tour ever.
05:41I've been wanting to for a super long time make music under my own name, Derek Zanetti,
05:46and this has been a wonderful tour to cap it off.
05:49At the end of this tour I'm going to be going down to Atlanta with Josh and he's going to
05:53be helping me record and produce a brand new record that will come out under my own name
05:59and I'm super duper excited about it.
06:02You can find out more about that at DerekZanetti.com.
06:06Anywhere that there is the internet, if you just go to the Google bar and you Google search
06:10either Derek Zanetti or the Homeless Gospel Choir, all that information is available to
06:14you.
