A Visit to Starter Culture in Shawlands

We took a trip into artisan cheese, deli & drinks shop Starter Culture in Shawlands to find out about how they fit into the local community.

00:00So we're in Starter Culture in Shorelands and my name is Lauren, I'm the supervisor here.

00:04It's very friendly, it's very multicultural around here, it's got a lot of nice green areas

00:09so it's easy for people to get out, walk their dogs, say hi to people in passing

00:15and there's definitely a lot of small businesses around

00:20and there's a really nice community within that, everyone's supporting each other.

00:25We're the only cheesemongers on the Southside, which makes it quite special.

00:30We've been open for five years and it's a woman-owned business,

00:35it's also LGBT-owned and friendly, which is quite nice.

00:42We're also dog-friendly, so yeah, it is a friendly place around

00:47and we sell cheese, we have a lovely cheese counter, charcuterie,

00:52lots of natural and small-batch wines, locally made beers, our bread is made local

00:59and yeah, lots of local produce for people to enjoy.
