SEOUL, officially known as Seoul Special City, is the capital of South Korea for over 600 years and until 1945, the capital of all of Korea. Since the founding of the Republic of Korea known as South Korea in 1948, Seoul has been the country's capital, except for some time during the Korean War.

Seoul is located in the northwest of the country, in the southern part of the Korean DMZ, on the Han River. In 2015, Seoul was rated the most liveable city in Asia with the second highest quality of life globally by Arcadis, with Seoul's GDP per capita (PPP) being around $40,000. With major technology hubs based in Gangnam and Digital Media City,[5] the Seoul Capital Region is home to 15 Fortune Global 500 companies. Seoul has hosted the 1986 Asian Games, the 1988 Summer Olympics, and the 2010 G20 Seoul Summit. was named World Design Capital 2010. This city is also the birthplace of K-pop and the Korean wave.
