00:00Avengers!
00:07Assemble.
00:08No!
00:09No!
00:11Hey, everyone.
00:12I'm Rebecca, and welcome to WatchMojo.
00:14Today, we're counting down our picks for the top 20 MCU
00:18moments that broke the internet.
00:20Underoos!
00:21He's mine.
00:36I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger initiative.
00:39For this list, we're looking at our favorite Marvel moments
00:42that swiftly went viral.
00:44Be on the lookout for spoilers, and if we
00:47missed your favorite Earth-shattering,
00:49Hulk-smashing moments, be sure to let us
00:51know about it in the comments.
00:53All right, let's get into it.
00:56Number 20, Wakanda Forever, Avengers Infinity War.
01:00When Black Panther was finally introduced
01:02into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,
01:04fans were beyond pumped.
01:06This never gets old.
01:07But that could not have prepared us
01:09for the absolute exhilaration of Wakanda's foray
01:12into the battle against Thanos.
01:13Everything about this moment, the music,
01:16King T'Challa's leadership, the fierce battle cry,
01:19is absolutely perfect, and had fans
01:22whooping in their theater seats.
01:23Wakanda forever!
01:30Watching Chadwick Boseman in any of these movies
01:33is bittersweet now, but this moment
01:35makes us tear up a little more than most.
01:37It's such a strong moment for the character
01:39and for all of Wakanda.
01:41Wakanda Forever, Killmonger versus T'Challa,
01:44Battle for the Throne, Black Panther.
01:47Several MCU outings have had a bit of a villain problem,
01:50but Killmonger stands apart from the pack
01:53as one of the very best, particularly
01:55because he kind of has a point.
01:57Y'all sitting up here comfortable.
01:59Must feel good.
02:01It's about 2 billion people all over the world
02:04that looks like us, but their lives are a lot harder.
02:07Wakanda has the tools to liberate them all.
02:10And while we love the final fight scene and dialogue
02:12between him and T'Challa, the fight for the throne
02:15has to be one of the MCU's most jaw-dropping moments.
02:19Is this your game, huh?
02:21We always expect the hero to win,
02:23and whenever they don't, it is shocking.
02:25But what really pushes this fight over the edge
02:28is the raw emotion from both T'Challa and Killmonger.
02:31It's personal for both of them,
02:33and that makes it exhilarating to watch.
02:36Number 18, Cap wakes up.
02:39Captain America, the first Avenger.
02:41Talk about a wake-up call.
02:43The first installment in Captain America's trilogy
02:45is one of the best introductions to a character in the MCU.
02:48And Steve Rogers crashing the Valkyrie into the icy Arctic,
02:52along with his emotional goodbye
02:54and promise of a dance to Agent Peggy Carter,
02:56is a hell of a way to end a movie.
02:58Peggy.
03:01I'm here.
03:02You're gonna need a rain check on that dance.
03:05But then Steve opens his eyes.
03:12Here's a bean drink from the Delphi last month.
03:14This moment is internet-breaking,
03:16not just because it sets up the Avengers movie so perfectly,
03:19but also because we slowly figure out
03:21what's going on right along with Steve.
03:23And it's exciting and heartbreaking in equal measure.
03:27You've been asleep, Cap,
03:29for almost 70 years.
03:31Luckily, Steve made good on that promise of a dance eventually.
03:34Number 17, Dr. Strange's cosmic trip.
03:38Dr. Strange.
03:39Open your eye.
03:55With the introduction of Dr. Strange into the MCU,
03:58we got a closer look at a lot of, frankly,
04:01very weird aspects of the universe.
04:03When Dr. Stephen Strange suffers a car accident
04:05that ends his surgical career,
04:07he seeks help from the mysterious Ancient One,
04:09who introduces him to dimensions beyond our own.
04:12Of course, the pragmatic Strange requires some proof,
04:16which brings us to this wildly trippy sequence.
04:18Open your eye.
04:24Oh, shit!
04:28Strange finds himself hurled through time and space
04:31in a beautifully bizarre way
04:33that had fans watching this scene over and over.
04:36Truthfully, we will never unsee all of those hands.
04:40Yuck.
04:41Number 16, Star-Lord's entrance.
04:43Guardians of the Galaxy.
04:45Come and get your guardians.
04:48Come and get your love.
04:52Come and get your love.
04:55The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie
04:57was a huge surprise hit,
04:59and the amount of killer music and dancing throughout the film
05:02definitely has a lot to do with the movie's success.
05:05Right from the jump,
05:06fans knew this wasn't your typical MCU flick
05:09thanks to this stellar opening sequence.
05:11As Chris Pratt shimmies and shakes his way
05:14through an extraterrestrial cave,
05:15fans were delighted for a change of pace.
05:18What a way to meet Star-Lord.
05:20Who?
05:21Star-Lord, man.
05:22Legendary outlaw.
05:24Guys, move!
05:26The introduction certainly made this scene
05:28one of the most watched in Marvel's history
05:30and one of the most fun to sing along to.
05:33Number 15, Cap holds the helicopter.
05:36Captain America Civil War.
05:38Sometimes, all you need to break the internet
05:40is a good set of biceps,
05:42which Captain America definitely has.
05:44When Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier,
05:47is triggered into his brainwashed state,
05:49a full-on brawl ensues as he tries to escape.
06:00There is plenty from this fight to get excited about,
06:03but the ultimate pause-the-movie moment
06:05comes when Captain America stops Bucky's helicopter
06:07from getting away with his brute strength alone.
06:18It's an incredible feat of strength,
06:19and it doesn't hurt that he looks great while doing it.
06:22Judging by the look on Bucky's face,
06:24he was impressed, too.
06:26Number 14, where is Gamora?
06:28Who is Gamora?
06:29Why is Gamora?
06:31Avengers Infinity War.
06:33This moment in Avengers Infinity War
06:35would have been incredibly important anyway.
06:37Any time different members of the universe meet up
06:40for the first time, audiences are bound to be excited.
06:42But this first-time meet-up also had the benefit
06:45of including some of the funniest heroes in the franchise.
06:47Ah!
06:49No, no, no, no, no, please don't put your eggs in me!
06:51Ah!
06:52Ah!
06:53When Gamora is kidnapped by Thanos,
06:55the other Guardians run into Tony and co.
06:58while looking for her.
06:59But they start out thinking they're on opposite sides.
07:02I'm gonna ask you this one time.
07:05Where is Gamora?
07:06Yeah, I'll do you one better.
07:07Who's Gamora?
07:09I'll do you one better.
07:11Why is Gamora?
07:12It's the misunderstandings and slow realizations
07:15that make this moment comedic gold.
07:18Number 13.
07:19Luis tells a story.
07:21Ant-Man.
07:22Tell us about that tip, Luis.
07:24I was at a wine tasting with my cousin Ernesto,
07:26which was mainly reds, and you know I don't love reds, man.
07:28You know, but there was a rosé that saved the day.
07:30It was delightful.
07:31And then he tells me about this girl, Emily,
07:32that we used to kick it with.
07:34It was actually the first pair of boobs that I ever touched.
07:36It's the wrong details.
07:37It's the wrong...
07:38It has nothing to do with the story.
07:39Ant-Man has the supreme honor
07:41of being one of the MCU's funniest movies.
07:44And so much of that is due to Michael Peña's performance
07:46as Scott Lang's best friend, Luis.
07:49After Scott gets out of prison,
07:50he's trying to keep on the right side of the law,
07:52but no one will hire him because of his criminal past.
07:55In an act of desperation,
07:57Scott agrees to join Luis and his pals on a heist.
08:00Not only does this directly lead to Scott becoming Ant-Man,
08:03it also gives us this incredible storytelling sequence
08:06from Luis.
08:07The bit is so good,
08:09they had Michael Peña repeat it in the second movie.
08:11Tell away, Luis.
08:12We'll be here to listen.
08:14Oh, see, that's complicated.
08:15Because when I first met Scotty, he was in a bad place.
08:17And I'm not talking about Cell Black D.
08:19His wife had just filed for divorce.
08:20And I was like, damn, homie,
08:21she dumped me when you were on lockup.
08:22And he was like, yeah, I know.
08:23I thought I was going to be with her forever.
08:25But now I'm all alone.
08:26Number 12.
08:27Black Panther's introduction.
08:28Captain America Civil War.
08:31By the time the third Captain America installment
08:33reached theaters,
08:34a Black Panther movie had been in talks for decades.
08:37And in this film, fans finally got to see him join the MCU.
08:47The first time fans saw Chadwick Boseman on screen
08:50as T'Challa was amazing enough.
08:52But the Black Panther's introduction
08:54comes a bit later in the film.
08:56As Bucky Barnes tries to escape
08:58after being framed for the explosion in Vienna,
09:00the famed Black Panther catches up with him.
09:02The two fight their way across the rooftops of Bucharest.
09:05And this amazing scene hyped fans up even more
09:08for the eventual Black Panther's standalone film.
09:16Your Highness.
09:17Number 11.
09:18Baby Groot dancing.
09:20Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
09:22After the opening of the first Guardians movie,
09:24did you really think Vol. 2 wouldn't deliver?
09:27At the end of the first Guardians,
09:29Groot sacrificed himself for the group
09:31in a beautiful moment.
09:32We still tear up when we hear we are Groot.
09:35And was reborn as a baby tree.
09:38And that little tree makes his presence known
09:40in a big way in Vol. 2.
09:49As the rest of the Guardians engage in a brutal battle
09:51against a tentacled monster in the background,
09:53Baby Groot wriggles his way across the screen,
09:55jamming out to electric light orchestra
09:58without a care in the world.
09:59Once again, a perfect opening.
10:05There ain't a cloud in sight.
10:08Number 10.
10:09The elevator fight.
10:10Captain America, The Winter Soldier.
10:13Before we get started,
10:15does anyone want to get out?
10:17The second installment of the Captain America trilogy
10:19is chock full of some of the best action scenes
10:22in the entire MCU.
10:24But the one we've watched over and over online
10:27has to be the incredible elevator fight.
10:29Following Nick Fury's apparent death,
10:31Cap meets with Alexander Pierce at S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ.
10:34But on his way out, he's ambushed by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own men.
10:43This moment is a true turning point in the MCU.
10:46Not only is it a stunning action sequence,
10:49it also marks the moment we realize we can't trust anyone,
10:52not even S.H.I.E.L.D.
10:54Number nine.
10:55Nick Fury's first stinger, Iron Man.
10:58If you're a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at all,
11:02you know you can't leave the theater
11:03before the credits finish rolling,
11:05or you might miss the all-important post-credits scene.
11:08There have been plenty of scream-inducing stingers
11:10over the years.
11:11The first glimpse of Thor's hammer comes to mind.
11:14So, we found it.
11:20But our favorite, and perhaps the most important one,
11:23is Nick Fury's appearance in the first Iron Man.
11:26Fury is the link between all of the Avengers,
11:29and this scene signaled to fans what was to come.
11:32Because of this moment,
11:33we knew this wouldn't be a one-off superhero movie.
11:36We were in for something greater,
11:38and great it turned out to be.
11:50Number eight.
11:51Thor vs. Hulk, Thor Ragnarok.
11:54And now we come to one of the most joy-inducing moments
11:57in all of the MCU,
11:58in one of its most hilarious installments.
12:01Thor Ragnarok marks the moment
12:02where Thor as a character finally hit his stride,
12:05and the franchise started to use
12:07Chris Hemsworth's comedic chops to their full effect.
12:09Then you have seen Ragnarok,
12:12the fall of Asgard, the great prophecy.
12:15Hang on, hang on.
12:18I'll be back around shortly.
12:21But with this moment,
12:22the movie also opened our eyes
12:24to the hilarious possibilities
12:25when you put Thor and Hulk together.
12:27Everything about the relationship
12:29between Thor and Hulk, and Bruce too,
12:32in this movie is perfect.
12:34And this moment starts it all off
12:35with that iconic line.
12:37We know each other.
12:39He's a friend from work.
12:41Number seven.
12:42J. Jonah Jameson reveal, Spider-Man Far From Home.
12:46Long-term Spidey fans have been through
12:47numerous film series with the character.
12:50Going back all the way to 2002
12:52with Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man,
12:54J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson is a standout.
12:57They're crap.
12:59Crap, crap, mega crap.
13:01The editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle
13:03has always been a thorn in Spider-Man's side,
13:06but he hadn't yet shown up in the MCU's run.
13:09So when he's revealed at the end
13:11of Spider-Man Far From Home,
13:12fans lost it.
13:14This was a huge moment for the MCU.
13:17Not only because we got more J.K. Simmons,
13:19we could never get enough,
13:20but also because it introduced the idea
13:22of the MCU delving further into the multiverse.
13:25We can't wait to see who shows up next.
13:28But that's not all, folks.
13:29Here's the real blockbuster.
13:31Brace yourselves.
13:32You might want to sit down.
13:32Number six.
13:33Peter Parker's introduction, Captain America Civil War.
13:37Underoos.
13:43Speaking of Spidey,
13:44how about Peter Parker's introduction to the MCU?
13:47This was a moment fans weren't sure would happen.
13:50Spider-Man's film rights belong to Sony
13:52and for a good while,
13:53talks between Sony and Marvel
13:55appeared to have come to a standstill.
13:57Luckily for fans everywhere,
13:59in February 2015,
14:01the companies came to an agreement
14:02and we finally got Spidey in an MCU movie.
14:06The casting in this moment is perfect.
14:08Tom Holland as Peter Parker
14:09and Marissa Tomei as Aunt May.
14:11And the intro sets up the beautiful mentor relationship
14:14between Peter and Tony.
14:15Plus, it was super fun to see teenage Peter Parker
14:18react to being around real life superheroes
14:21at the airport fight.
14:23You have a metal arm?
14:25That is awesome, dude.
14:28Number five.
14:29Hulk smashes Loki, The Avengers.
14:32Hulk smash.
14:33And Hulk,
14:36smash.
14:38Mark Ruffalo's introduction as the Hulk in the MCU
14:41comes in the first Avengers film
14:43and what a fine Hulk he makes.
14:45Ruffalo's gentle approach to Dr. Bruce Banner
14:48only makes his transformation into the enraged Hulk
14:51that much more thrilling.
14:52And sad, honestly.
14:54But this particular moment is anything but sad.
14:57In fact, it's downright hilarious.
14:59As the Avengers work to defeat Loki
15:01in the Battle of New York,
15:02things come to a head when Loki attempts
15:04to talk down to the Hulk.
15:05Bad move, Loki.
15:07Hulk grabs the puny god mid-sentence
15:10and proceeds to smash him all over the place.
15:13I am a god, you dull creature.
15:16And I will not be bullied by-
15:17Ha!
15:27Puny god.
15:28Theaters everywhere burst into laughter
15:31and this moment went down in history
15:33as one of the most rewatchable.
15:35Number four.
15:36Thor lands in Wakanda, Avengers Infinity War.
15:41You guys are so screwed now!
15:44The final battle in Avengers Infinity War
15:46is filled with heart-pounding action.
15:48From Cap facing Thanos alone
15:50to, of course, that Wakanda forever moment
15:53we talked about earlier.
15:54But the most cheer-inducing moment from this battle
15:57comes from the God of Thunder himself.
15:59Thor spends most of the film away from his fellow Avengers,
16:03gallivanting through space
16:04and trying to find himself a new weapon.
16:06When he finally gets said weapon, Stormbreaker,
16:09he arrives to the battle in internet-breaking style.
16:12Thor bursts on the scene with Rocket and Groot at his side.
16:15And we could not have been more pumped.
16:18Bring me Thanos!
16:30Number three.
16:31I am Iron Man, Iron Man.
16:33In a lot of ways, Tony Stark is the heart
16:36of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
16:37And we almost picked his incredibly selfless
16:40snap moment in Endgame.
16:42And I am Iron Man.
16:53But we had to go with the moment
16:54that bookends that Endgame snap
16:56and makes it so compelling in the first place.
16:58At the end of the first Iron Man movie,
17:00Tony is faced with a choice.
17:02Hide his identity or embrace it.
17:04Of course, he chooses the latter
17:06and comes clean in the most Tony Stark
17:09matter-of-fact way possible,
17:10right before the credits roll.
17:12I am Iron Man.
17:18It's one of the first truly memorable moments
17:20in the MCU and one of our favorites.
17:24Number two.
17:25On your left, the final battle, Avengers Endgame.
17:29There are so many get-your-heart-racing moments
17:31in Endgame.
17:32But for this entry, there's no better pick
17:34than the final battle, particularly when Sam's voice
17:37sputters into Cap's ear as he says,
17:39On your left.
17:41Captain Sam, can you hear me?
17:47On your left.
17:57It's an excellent callback to Sam and Cap's
17:59first meeting back in Winter Soldier.
18:00But it's also much more than that.
18:02Seeing all the Avengers who Thanos snapped away
18:05come back led to some of the greatest
18:07theater reactions of all time.
18:10The relief on Cap's face is palpable,
18:12and we feel it too.

18:48Number one.
18:49The Avengers assemble for the first time.
18:51The Avengers.
18:53We had to go with the original.
18:54The first Avengers movie was a huge step
18:57for the MCU, but the titular heroes spend
18:59much of that first get-together at odds.
19:02It takes a lot to bring them together,
19:04but when they finally do, it is worth the wait.
19:14The shot is absolutely iconic.
19:16The music, the 360 swing around.
19:19There's just something about seeing our
19:20heroes come together that hits.
19:22We love seeing the Avengers get together
19:24for any reason, whether it's for a party
19:26at Tony's Tower or for some post-battle shawarma.
19:35But the first moment the Avengers really
19:37assemble still gets our hearts racing
19:39after all this time.
19:41So are you pumped?
