In this episode of the WIP Morning Show, Jon Ritchie and Joe DeCamara discuss ESPN's top-10 quarterback rankings and debate if Jalen Hurts should be included in that group based on his play from last season.

00:00John, it's now just one week to training camp, and what a training camp it should be.
00:04I mean, we're all looking for, you know, obviously better play and better structure
00:09on offense and a different type of offense and all that. We're also very much looking
00:13forward to what gets said specifically next week, mid-week, when the guys get together
00:17and they have their first media sessions and we hear from Sirianni and we hear from Hertz.
00:21And I mean, that's going to be fascinating. Here's what was very interesting yesterday
00:26that came out by way of ESPN compiling a list of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts,
00:33and they had 80 different executive coaches and scouts that weighed in.
00:37Top 10 players at all sorts of positions, and the quarterbacks have been unveiled.
00:42And Jalen Hertz, John, according to the executives, the coaches, and the scouts of the NFL,
00:48Jalen Hertz not in the top 10. That's a travesty.
00:54And John, I want to get your reaction and everyone's reaction.
00:57A betrayal of the truth.
00:58215-592-9494. So let me first detail the list, and then we'll get John's reaction and everyone
01:05here. So here's the list again. This is NFL coaches, executives, and scouts. We don't know
01:13how many general managers, we don't know how many head coaches, we don't know how many coordinators,
01:18but we know this is what ESPN is calling executives, coaches, and scouts. And their
01:23list for top 10 QB goes as follows. Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, 2. Josh Allen is 3.
01:32Lamar Jackson, 4. Matthew Stafford, 5. That's your top 5. Okay, here's 6 through 10.
01:40Justin Herbert, C.J. Stroud, Aaron Rodgers, Jared Goff, and Dak Prescott.
01:50Ladies and gentlemen, we'll take your reaction to the news.
01:52This is a joke, Joe. That does sound idiotic to you, doesn't it? When this rings and you hear
02:00Jared Goff coming in at 9, that does discredit this list.
02:05That's the one that I would say is most questionable. I mean, here's the thing,
02:09he certainly outplayed Jalen Hurts down the stretch last year. I never would have conceived
02:13a year ago that there would be a point in human history when any human alive would consider Jared
02:18Goff better than Jalen Hurts, but I know that second half of the season, he certainly was.
02:23You know, now it doesn't mean he will be moving forward. It doesn't mean he,
02:26empirically speaking, is, but you know, Jalen really took an enormous step backwards last
02:31year. He did. He did. And you have to, yes, you have to account for that. I think they overreacted,
02:38they overadjusted for that downturn in play by Jalen. Yes, there was a downturn. I don't think
02:48he should be outside the top 10. I think that he, when you, what this list is going by is the ESPN
02:58world of their QBR, where that, as I understand it, they weight certain plays, you know, based on
03:05their importance. And that's, so it's somewhat subjective in the way that those people grade
03:11those plays out. So, you know, the way that you feel about the player does affect the final grade.
03:19I prefer the PFF grading where you've got former coaches and scouts and, you know,
03:27people on staff going and grading tape. It's just, you know, a different way of evaluating.
03:33But John, you know, when they graded similar, when they graded Jalen's tapes at the end of the year,
03:37it stunk.
