00:00Within the last few months we've seen a real increase in the number of people
00:03that are coming to hospital with complications related from these
00:07medications and actually incredibly similar stories to that that we've just
00:11heard. What kind of complications? So they vary hugely and we're seeing lots of
00:19people that are giving a similar story so nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea that kind
00:23of thing and we're also seeing people that because this goes on for quite a
00:27long time and I think one of the things to stress is this medication is a
00:30once-weekly drug so it stays in your system for a long time which is one of
00:34the reasons we're having to admit people until the side effects of it do wear off.
00:38So we are getting people who are very dehydrated. The other thing is one of the
00:42side effects of this drug is it changes the way you metabolize really so if you
00:46stop eating the right amount of calories or a right amount of food for yourself
00:49you'll start to go into a kind of starvation process and that can then
00:53start to alter the salts in your blood and the salt levels in your blood and
00:56we're seeing people with what we call an acidosis when your blood starts to
01:00become a bit acidic and that can be as dangerous as it sounds probably.
