A look at the re-jig for the new season.

00:00Michael, just looking at Manchester City ahead of the new season and they've had some news
00:04about the youth set-up, obviously we've mentioned in the past how impressive Manchester City's
00:10youth system is, the likes of Kyle Palmer and Rico Lewis, Phil Foden obviously, some
00:16huge names making huge inroads to a fantastic career really. What's the latest you can
00:20tell us on this and this news to do with the youth set-up?
00:25Well, as you say, City, their talent production over the last couple of years has been perhaps
00:31the best in the country, certainly up there with the best two or three sides in the division
00:36and they won the FA Youth Cup last year, they're regular winners of the under-21s and under-18s
00:42Premier League leagues. But they have announced in the last couple of weeks a few changes
00:48to their youth coaching set-up, so I think the first big one is that Brian Barry Murphy
00:53has departed the club after three years, he's been incredibly successful with the under-21s
00:58side and has moved on, although last season was a bit of an underwhelming campaign at
01:03that age group for City, so he's moved on. Ben Wilkinson, who was the under-18 manager,
01:08stepped up to take over from the under-21s. For Ben, who's a nice guy, I've met him a
01:13couple of times, certainly ahead of the two cup finals last year for the under-18s, it's
01:18a big achievement for him. He started at the under-16s with City, he worked as an assistant
01:23to the under-21s and has stepped up from under-16s, under-18s and now up to the under-21s, so
01:28it's a nice progression for him, and I say he will take charge of the under-21s next
01:34season. And coming in for the under-18s is Oliver Rice, a really interesting character,
01:39he spent 17 years working for, I think it was Hartford Berlin in Germany, I've just
01:45completely slipped my mind who it was, but yes, he worked for 17 years in Germany, the
01:49same club, and has decided to move on after such a long period with the club. He has brought
01:56with him, interestingly, Richard Dunne as his assistant manager, obviously a former
01:59Manchester City favourite, has come in to take that position, a really interesting move
02:03from them, and he's not the only former City player who's come in and moved into the youth
02:08coaching ranks. Colo Torre, who previously managed Wigan Athletic, has stepped in and
02:12he's going to be part of the under-16s side as assistant manager. So, lots of changes
02:17for City at youth level, I think really it's a bit of a snowball effect from Brian Barry
02:20Murphy moving on, and lots of changes from that essentially, and yeah, it's really interesting
02:27as I say, City, fantastic youth production at youth level, and it'll be interesting to
02:32see how that continues under this new management.
