00:00It's a result that comes as a surprise to almost no one.
00:05Rwanda's incumbent President Paul Kagame is set to be re-elected.
00:09That's according to partial results published by the Electoral Commission this evening.
00:13Those results show he's received over 99% of the votes.
00:18That's his highest score since he came to power 24 years ago.
00:23In 2015, under Kagame's presidency,
00:26constitutional amendments were made that allowed him to run for two more consecutive terms,
00:31which means that he can potentially rule Rwanda until 2034.
00:36These partial figures, which the Electoral Commission says should only be interpreted as trends,
00:41still account for a significant portion of the country's ballots.
00:46In a distant second place is Frank Habinaza, the only real opposition candidate.
00:51He won 0.5% of the votes, which is slightly better than he did in the last election.
00:57And in third place is independent candidate Filipe Mpeyimana, who won just 0.3% of the vote.
01:06More official results are expected next weekend.
