Parts of New South Wales have been covered by a light blanket of snow in some of the first widespread falls of the season. The bureau of meteorology has predicted snowfall above 800 metres overnight and potentially above 12-hundred metres in the ACT today.

00:00We got about 12cm overnight, which was great to see. The previous 24 hours, another 5cm,
00:09so we've had between 15 and 20cm in the last couple of days, which has been great.
00:16Been great, not huge?
00:19Not huge, but certainly we've done pretty well with regards to our natural snow cover
00:26and also our snow makers have been hard working over the last few weeks to make snow to get
00:32as many lifts operating and terrain open as possible.
00:36Yeah, cool. So has the wind been so full on though that it's been a bit messy on the slopes?
00:42Yeah, we certainly did get the wind yesterday. It closed some of our operations. Safety's
00:49our number one priority, so we did have to shut down a few of our chairlifts in the afternoon,
00:55but by this morning we were back to a limited amount of wind, but a lot of snow to clear
01:03and a lot more runs opening.
01:05Yeah, and how many lifts did you have operating today?
01:10So previous days we had 28, we're up to 33 I think today, and we're looking at opening
01:18some more in the following days and connecting our four resort areas as well.
01:23Yeah, cool. So is that nearly at 100%?
01:27Our 100% is about 46 lifts. We've still got a way to go there, but we're hoping for more snow in the
01:34coming days that we're going to work hard to get as much open as possible for our guests.
01:40Yeah, so how's the season been up to now?
01:43From a snowfall perspective, it's been a relatively slow start, but it's certainly starting to pick up
01:52as I said before, our snowmakers have been working tirelessly to get the mountain open,
01:58as well as our groomers opening more and more terrain as we've gone. So it's been a bit up and
02:04down, but certainly with school holidays, we've got the inter-school races here at the moment,
02:10a lot of smiling faces, a lot of kids in lessons and a lot of fun being had.
02:16And so how important has this dump been considering the run-ups being pretty mixed?
02:22Well, as I said, we were down to about 28 lifts. We had to shut a few lifts
02:28due to a bit of a melt in warm weather that we had last week. So this has brought us up to
02:3333 or 35. So we're certainly increasing as the days go on, but we'll have even more
02:40terrain open tomorrow. So that's going to be great.
02:43And how are the few next weeks looking?
02:47Looking at the weather charts intently. We look to say we'll get some light snowfall
02:51for the rest of the week, but looking for another more traditional cold front on Saturday,
02:58hopefully delivering around 20 or 30 centimetres and that's going to certainly help things along
03:04and set us up for the remainder of the season. And what's generally the peak month for you?
03:11So the end of July going into August is generally when we've got the peak snow amounts,
03:18even going into September, some great spring skiing. But really from this point on until
03:24September is really a great time to get down here and have some fun.
03:29And Andy, have you had time yourself today to get out there and enjoy it a bit,
03:33or are you being behind the desk?
03:34Unfortunately, I have not been out today, but I will try my hardest to get out tomorrow.
03:40Make sure you do. You've got to incorporate that exercise every day.
03:44Yeah, I try to. I tell them it's product testing. So it is encouraged here at
03:50Perisher to get out and interact with our guests, see our staff and have a bit of fun,
03:55as you said, get some exercise.
03:57Yeah, good stuff. Okay, Andy, thanks so much for having a chat to us and good luck with
04:00the rest of the season.
04:01My pleasure. Thank you.
