00:00Welcome to Media 1 TV, art in this chronicle and direction Rabat at the Museum
00:17Mohamed VI of Modern and Contemporary Art, which hosts the Cameroonian artist Barthélemy
00:22Togo.
00:23The National Foundation of Museums has organized several major events celebrating the African
00:29culture, such as Africa in Capital, Treasure of Islam in Africa, from Toumbouctou to Zanzibar,
00:34Light of Africa, Africa seen by its photographers from Manic-Sidibe, Art du Bénin d'hier
00:41and today Restitution à la Révélation.
00:44Today, the National Foundation of Museums continues its opening on the continent and
00:49welcomes Barthélemy Togo, internationally renowned.
00:54The multidisciplinary artist presents an exceptional exhibition entitled Stronger Together
01:01and which highlights an enriching dialogue with Moroccan culture.
01:08Let's listen to Barthélemy Togo and the co-commissioner of the exhibition, Androula
01:14Mikhaël.
01:15I realized the drawings that are on the elixirs five years ago, ten years ago, but to see
01:22them today transcribed in this Moroccan technique of fez is a glory for me, is a pleasure for
01:37me and this is what I am looking for in the artistic universe, this is what will please
01:45me and I found it in these techniques that exist in Moroccan craftsmanship, quite simply.
01:54This exhibition is indeed something quite unique.
01:59It may be the first time that Barthélemy Togo has entirely carried out an exhibition
02:07on site, a dialogue with the culture of the country, with Moroccan craftsmanship, with
02:12other artists, with the millennial culture of these countries, and he has done everything
02:19on site, in situ, with two performances that you will see, because we also wanted to show
02:27this aspect of the artist's work, which is also performance, photo, sculpture.
02:33So he is really a versatile artist.
02:37So he could only feel happy, in fact, surrounded by this art, this Moroccan craftsmanship.
02:45Named artist of UNESCO for Peace in October 2021, Barthélemy Togo is listening to the world.
02:51He embodies a singular and universal voice and awakens consciousness through his creations.
02:57His art resonates with contemporary socio-political themes, which constitute a powerful testimony
03:03of our time. Inspired by Moroccan culture and his secular craftsmanship, Barthélemy Togo
03:09has therefore created for this exhibition a series of unpublished works, mixing paint,
03:14drawings, ceramics, tapestry and tiles, while maintaining his bold and recognisable signature.
03:22We listen again to Barthélemy Togo and the co-commissioner, Androula Mikhaël.
03:27I didn't use 100% of Moroccan craftsmanship.
03:31I used 2% because there are many other things in Moroccan craftsmanship.
03:38But I just switched to ceramics, to tapestry, to explore, to transcribe what was important for me,
03:51what was a priority for me.
03:53And I was fascinated to see my engravings produced in tapestry.
04:01I was fascinated to see the Moroccan cultural universe with the animals of their cultural world,
04:12the lion of the ice.
04:15Working with Barthélemy Togo is a unique experience.
04:20Once you trust him, he gives you his heart and you can follow in his footsteps.
04:27For example, I followed him when he was doing this work.
04:31I was there with him all day.
04:33I saw him think, I saw him approach the paper, go towards the paper,
04:38almost perform when he was doing it.
04:42Indeed, he is an artist who is imbued with all cultures, from the past to the present.
04:48He is like a sponge, in fact.
04:50And as he touches all the mediums, he has an incredible dexterity,
04:55even in watercolor, in the work on paper, where the material escapes us quickly.
05:04He has this mastery that is quite exceptional.
05:11Stronger Together is an exhibition that celebrates the beauty and diversity of African art,
05:17while highlighting the human values that bring us together.
05:22Alongside its creations, there are performance videos and an important installation
05:26dedicated to Banjoun Station, an art center and artist's residence founded by Togo, Cameroon.
05:32These videos invite the public to discover the amazing universe of the artist
05:36and his commitment to the African continent.
05:39A documentary enriches the exhibition, retracing the key steps of his journey
05:45and exploring the subjects that challenge and concern him.
05:50Based on his inspiration in nature, dreams and reality, contemporary sociopolitics,
05:55Barthélémy Togo is a profoundly committed artist who creates works of great humanity.
06:01We listen to Mehdi Kotb, President of the National Museums Foundation,
06:06and the images are from Hayat Ziani.
06:09Barthélémy Togo, who was able to impose himself in the world,
06:13and he was given this white card so that he could invest and invest in a space.
06:21And you know how important it is, this affirmation for Morocco of its Africanity,
06:30this belonging to this continent.
06:33As you can see, in the next two years, there will be a museum,
06:38a museum of the continent, a real one, which will be an exceptional place
06:44where all the artistic expressions of our continent will be present.
06:53And music now.
06:55And let's zoom in on the genius of the new flamenco, the guitarist Yerey Cortes.
07:01Born in Alicante in 1995, his father, Miguel, and his mother, Maria,
07:06initiated him to flamenco music and taught him to play the guitar from an early age.
07:11Yerey Cortes begins with El Cajon and accompanies his father
07:15in the falsettos of Paco de Lucia or Tomatito,
07:20until he decides to take his own guitar.
07:24Guitarist, winner of the Guitarra con Alma prize at the Jerez festival in 2021,
07:29producer, composer, passionate musician,
07:32Yerey Cortes considers himself as a compulsive musician
07:36who knows no other way of living than through and for art.
07:40And it is for our greatest happiness.
07:43Let's listen to these excerpts.
