00:00Nationwide monitoring on the price of rice is favored by rice vendors.
00:05Importers and suppliers should monitor it well.
00:09Live from Quezon City, we have the first news, EJ Gomez. EJ?
00:17Susan, the Trade and Industry Department of Nationwide Rice Price Monitoring launched
00:24to assess the effect of the price of rice on the entire supply chain from importers to retailers.
00:32This is good news for some rice vendors and buyers that we talked to here in Kamuning Market in Quezon City.
00:44Jane's family in Kamuning Market in Quezon City has been selling rice for more than three decades.
00:50They started with only P12 per kilo of rice, which is now P60 or more.
00:57As a vendor, they can't do anything whenever the price of rice goes up.
01:02That's why it's favored by them to monitor the price from importers and suppliers.
01:08We are forced to raise the price. If the price goes up, we lower it.
01:15Our suppliers should be the ones who make sure that we don't sell money.
01:22The government launched Nationwide Rice Price Monitoring
01:26to assess the effect of the price of rice on the entire supply chain from importers to retailers.
01:34The Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture
01:38will monitor the movement of the price of rice in retail markets, grocery stores and wet markets.
01:44According to the DTI, they will be strict in monitoring and assessing.
01:48The information they will get will help farmers to make sure that the rice supply is sufficient.
01:55That's what the government should do, said Lucy,
01:59who bought 10 kilos of rice per day for her canteen.
02:03It's better because the price of rice is going up.
02:10We also need low-priced stores.
02:14We are having a hard time budgeting.
02:17If the price of rice is high, the price of vegetables is also high.
02:21Everything is going up, including meat.
02:24Jane is a rice retailer.
02:27We should lower the price of rice.
02:30Like before, we can choose the price.
02:34We should also make sure that the price of rice does not go up.
02:45Susan, according to the rice retailers we talked to,
02:50their supply is okay.
02:53They only sell 50 to 55 pesos per kilo.
02:59There are also some who are discarding.
03:01They are mixing it with a premium or higher price
03:07so that the quality or taste is still okay when you eat rice.
03:12That's the first news from Camunding, Quezon City.
