00:00I just go off on action.
00:02Hey, hey, hold on.
00:03I just need to cut.
00:05And I stop.
00:06Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:07The way I make movies is if I get a script,
00:10I just personalize it.
00:12If you give me an exact same script
00:14that you give Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks
00:17or Denzel Washington,
00:19I just play the scene how I would do it.
00:21They love me at Beverly Hills.
00:26I'm not thinking about,
00:28oh yeah, in 84 I did this.
00:30There's nothing I can look at Axl at 22
00:33and think, oh, how can I take some of that
00:36and put that Axl at 63?
00:38It's a whole different person.
00:43I never go into a scene and think,
00:45okay, I'm going to improvise here.
00:47I go into the scene and I try to do
00:49what's on the paper,
00:50and then I can improvise on top of that.
00:53So if I'm all the way comfortable
00:54and shit is flowing,
00:56then extra stuff just comes out.
01:01I'm a writer as well,
01:02so it's like we're calling it improvising,
01:03but I'm always writing.
01:05I was watching 48 Hours a couple of days ago
01:07and I was tripping over it.
01:08I'm like, well, I wrote that scene,
01:09I wrote that scene, I wrote that.
01:11So I'm always trying to get it better
01:13and get it to make it to feel real.
01:15Characters that I created,
01:17they kind of come together in a different way.
01:20I remember going and getting Rudy Ray Moore movies
01:22and all of us sitting around and bugging out
01:24and laughing at those movies.
01:26Down in the jungle deep!
01:31The first Nutty Professor movie,
01:33it's funny and it's got a nice,
01:35sweet little heart thing.
01:37You feel for this character, Sherman.
01:39It's a scene where Sherman's in the club
01:41and Pell is ripping him apart
01:43and everybody's laughing.
01:44The camera goes in close on Sherman's face
01:46and they're all laughing at him.
01:47You really feel for him.
01:49And I love that all of this technical stuff
01:51that's going on,
01:52makeups and all of this little shit
01:54that the audience connects with this character
01:56as a real person.
01:58Coming up with those characters,
01:59putting the makeup on,
02:01and Rick Baker would just start asking me questions.
02:03He'd say, where you from?
02:04Where you born?
02:05How old are you?
02:06Do you have any kids?
02:07Just answering everything.
02:08And after a while,
02:09you can literally see the moment where it's like,
02:11oh, right there he starts using his voice.
02:13And that's why it's my favorite.
02:20Want to stay in the know
02:21about your favorite Netflix shows and movies?
02:24Of course.
