00:00Emergency crews searched the rapids for survivors after a landslide swept two buses into a river in Nepal,
00:07leaving 60 people missing.
00:10The two vehicles were travelling on a road that had collapsed, weakened by heavy rain for several days.
00:16More authorities are being mobilised while time runs out, as the water continues to rise.
00:22On X, the country's Prime Minister expressed his condolences.
00:28I'm deeply saddened by the loss of nearly 5,000 passengers
00:32and the loss of property due to floods and landslides in different parts of the country
00:36when a bus was washed away by a landslide on the Narayangad-Moglin road section.
00:42I direct all agencies of the government, including the Home Administration,
00:46to search and effectively rescue the passengers.
00:50In Nepal's mountainous regions, landslides are a common occurrence,
00:54made worse by poor road conditions, and rainfall has been particularly heavy this year.
00:59In Kathmandu, some districts have been flooded, taking residents by surprise.
01:05It's nothing new for us, but it's happened very quickly.
01:10The heavy rains and flooding started at the very beginning of July this year.
01:14The water level first reached our knees.
01:17If the rains continue in the same way, then we'll have to flee to survive.
01:22The rainy season traditionally lasts from June to September
01:26and causes several hundred deaths every year.
