00:00What's going on Island Hoppers, today we are coming to you from Southern California
00:06and we're going to show you around the top 5 places to visit when you come to SoCal.
00:17First up on the list is San Diego, California, the southernmost metropolis in all of the
00:24state.
00:25San Diego is the place to go if you're looking for lots of outdoor activities including the
00:29San Diego Zoo, Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor, Embarcadero, the downtown area has many activities
00:40as well as Balboa Park.
00:44San Diego does have an efficient transportation system with light rail and other transport
00:51stations.
00:53Also a great deal of naval history, so if you're into the Navy you'll want to come to
00:58San Diego as it is one of the best Navy towns in all of America.
01:04In fact, when we talk about the best cities in all of America, it is common to meet people
01:12who would say that San Diego, California is their number one city in all of the country.
01:19With a beautiful Mediterranean temperate climate up and down from San Diego to La Jolla
01:28and around Coronado Island, San Diego is widely known as a surfing capital.
01:38As you can see, lots of surfing activities, water activities and sport fishing.
01:51So when you come to Southern California, be prepared to let your hair down as you arrive
01:55in San Diego and start moving north.
01:59Lots of history, lots of entertainment and fun for the whole family out here in San Diego.
02:05So let's begin to look around the rest of Southern California as we continue north.
02:26Next up on the list is San Clemente, the town that looks like a village that goes up the
02:34hill away from the ocean.
02:37This here is again another surfing capital of California.
02:43Many surfers like to go to the nearby area known as St. Onifer.
02:51Another interesting fact about Southern California is you can actually ride the rail lines up
02:55and down these towns from city to city, town to town, village to village.
03:02So they do have an Amtrak line.
03:04But right here you can see beautiful views all around, million-dollar homes really, right
03:11here on the coastline of San Clemente.
03:15People who come to San Clemente are really looking for relaxation and a nice outdoor
03:35environment and that's what they get when they come here.
03:37You can also hike, walk around, explore the beaches, camp, play beach volleyball, lots
03:45to do out here, and who can forget the beautiful sunsets that you get from the shoreline every
03:53single night.
04:15And, just up the road from San Clemente, you're going to get Dana Point.
04:27Now, Dana Point is a maritime capital known for whale watching.
04:33Depending on the time of the year also depends on what whales you will see as this is a big
04:40migration route for multiple different species of whales including gray whales, humpback
04:46whales, and even the blue whale, the world's largest whale.
04:52And not too uncommon to see dolphins.
05:11Dana Point is a smaller town on the Southern California coast, but the views are spectacular,
05:20much more relaxing than some of the big cities in SoCal.
05:24So do keep that in mind when you come out here.
05:27You're really coming here to a relaxing place, not a lot of nightlife, and that's a good
05:31thing because many people actually just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather around
05:36Dana Point.
05:39And if you're enjoying this video, please consider liking the video, subscribing, and
05:43getting notified every time we make a new travel guide.
05:50Now, we'll head back down south again towards Carlsbad, which is actually in between San
06:08Clemente and San Diego, just south of Oceanside.
06:14Now, Oceanside didn't make the list because I consider Carlsbad to be where you actually
06:20want to locate yourself when you're trying to get around all of Southern California.
06:28Carlsbad has a nice downtown district, lots of bars, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants
06:35for those of you who like to do some shopping.
06:36And then you can just head on down to the beach and relax.
06:40And they have several boutique hotels that you'll want to stay at when you come over
06:45to Carlsbad.
07:09And possibly one of the most unique and scenic towns, Laguna Beach.
07:35This place is world-renowned as it is in Orange County.
07:40Many reality TV shows come out of Laguna Beach, actually.
07:46People who visit Laguna Beach are coming for the beaches, they're coming for the shopping,
07:52and they're coming for the nightlife that you can get in the old historic town.
07:56It's not going to be the most crazy nightclub environment, but you do get to have a really
08:02good time at night.
08:04And the weather is perfect most of the year.
08:10Laguna Beach is known for its art scene.
08:16As you can see, many different unique art galleries up and down Laguna Beach.
08:21It does have one main drag, and the houses appear to be built along the sea cliffs out
08:27here in California.
08:28So, million dollar homes, I mean, this is a really pricey place to be.
08:33Even if you just want to visit.
08:35That's why some people pick a town like San Clemente and then they drive up to Laguna.
08:40But if you do choose to stay the night in Laguna, be ready to break out the billfold.
09:34Next up, Newport Beach.
09:35We're going to head up above Laguna Beach to the furthest northern town on this list,
09:44Newport, just below Los Angeles.
09:48And this is the area you want to be if you're headed towards Los Angeles even.
09:54Which actually didn't make the list because LA has become a place that is no longer considered
10:00as relaxing as many of these other Southern California towns.
10:04But we do include Newport Beach in this beautiful area on planet Earth.
10:15Newport Beach offers incredible views of the Channel Islands.
10:19You can see Avalon and some of the other cities on Catalina.
10:26Well, Avalon is really the only city you can see from Newport Beach at night.
10:31But you'll see the lights from here.
10:32They have a pier.
10:34They have a bike trail, jogging, rollerblading, roller skating, all up and down Newport Beach.
10:41They have a nice marina.
10:43This once was an industrial town that has now turned into a commercial hub for leisure.
10:52And when I say an industrial town, it was a fishing village, really.
10:56This is where they used to bring in all those tuna back in the day.
11:01Nowadays, not so many fish out there because of overfishing, more than likely.
11:06But you could see, really, Newport Beach.
11:10Lots of sand, lots of sunshine, blue skies year-round.
11:16This is the place to be.
11:56And rounding out the final location on the list, we're going to head south again to La Jolla,
12:02which is just north of San Diego.
12:06And this place here is where people like to go for the bay.
12:10So, the La Jolla Estuary Bay, where you can see plenty of seals and sea lions.
12:18Look at them, everywhere.
12:21La Jolla is where the big money also exists, as you can tell.
12:25Southern California has a lot of expensive homes with views overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
12:31And they have parks, an art scene, and tide pools.
12:36People come here to do some tide pooling.
12:38Look at all the birds around here.
12:40You'll notice there's quite a bit of wildlife.
12:42There's a lot of fish.
12:44There's a lot of fish.
12:45There's a lot of fish.
12:46There's a lot of fish.
12:47There's a lot of fish.
12:48You'll notice there's quite a bit of wildlife that likes to spend time in La Jolla Bay.
13:18So,
13:41that being said, I hope you guys enjoy your visit to Southern California.
13:45There's many other small towns and villages up and down the coastline here.
13:50Even some state parks that you may want to check out.
13:53And if you go inland, the mountains have great hiking and exploration to be had a little bit inland.
14:00All of these are Southern California coastal towns though.
