03:21non-English show.
03:22It soon also became Netflix's biggest ever series launch,
03:26surpassing Bridgerton's record earlier last year,
03:29and the hashtag Squid Game had over 27
03:32and a half billion views on TikTok in weeks.
03:35Following months of silence regarding details
03:37of Squid Game season two,
03:39the show's protagonist actor, Lee Jun-jae,
03:41confirmed that filming has not yet begun.
03:44But thankfully, he did provide a rough timeline.
03:47Per reports from allkpop.com, Jun-jae said,
03:51Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer,
03:53and the filming will likely last for about 10 months.
03:56We were working on season one for about 10 months as well,
04:00but that was with delays caused by COVID-19.
04:03But seeing as season two will be bigger in scale,
04:05it will probably take longer to complete.
04:08In an interview for Vanity Fair's June 2022 issue,
04:12Squid Game's creator, Wong,
04:14revealed he was in final talks with Netflix
04:16about the second season,
04:17and that he expected the new episodes to come out
04:20in late 2023 or early 2024.
04:23He also told the outlet he had three pages worth of ideas
04:26for the script, and that the only character guaranteed
04:29to come back at the time was Lee Ji-hun.
04:32We first heard about Netflix's Squid Game back in 2019.
04:36It then took another two years for filming
04:38and production to finish up.
04:40So it's likely we won't see a second season
04:42until late 2023, or maybe even 2024.
04:46Now that a second season has been commissioned,
04:48we're hoping that the team get to work on it pretty quickly.
04:51However, we're also fairly sure we won't be seeing it
04:54on our screens for quite some time,
04:56especially if creator Don Herc's recent comments
04:58are anything to go by.
05:04The first season of the Squid Game series
05:06revolves around a secret contest where 456 players,
05:10all of whom are in deep financial hardship,
05:13risk their lives to play a series of deadly children's games
05:16for the chance to win a 45.6 billion won reward.
05:20The main protagonist of the series, Seol Ji-hun,
05:23a divorced father and indebted gambler,
05:25played by Lee Jun-jae, is invited to play a series
05:28of children's games for a chance at a large cash prize.
05:32Accepting the offer, he is taken to an unknown location
05:35where he finds himself among 455 other players
05:39who are all in deep financial trouble.
05:41The players are made to wear green tracksuits
05:44and are kept under watch at all times
05:45by masked guards in pink jumpsuits
05:48with the games overseen by the front man,
05:50who weighs a black mask and black uniform.
05:53The players soon discover that losing a game
05:55results in their deaths, with each death
05:58adding 100 million won to the potential
06:0045.6 billion won grand prize.
06:03Ji-hun allies with other players,
06:05including his childhood friend Cho Sang-woo,
06:07and North Korean defector Kang Sae-byeok,
06:10to try to survive the game's physical
06:12and psychological twists.
06:14As for the second season, the show's creator
06:16talked about the messages he hopes to convey
06:18with the new episodes.
06:19In an August 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter,
06:23series creator Wong Dong-hyuk said,
06:25"'The philosophies I put in season one
06:27all naturally extend to season two.
06:29Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers,
06:32I just thought about the last moment
06:34when Ji-hun turned away from boarding the plane,
06:36and I thought about what he will do next."
06:39He also offered a hint about season one winner
06:41Seon Ji-hun's state of mind
06:43after the final's cliffhanger ending, saying,
06:46"'There will naturally be a flow of events
06:47that will lead all the way to the end of the season.
06:50I can't share any details yet,
06:52but you know that Ji-hun has become a totally new person
06:55by the end of season one.
06:57So season two is going to be about
06:58what that new Ji-hun is going to do
07:00and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.'"
07:07While we don't know exactly what's next,
07:09and we're absolutely sure
07:10there will be plenty of surprises in store,
07:12Swig Games' season two will likely revolve
07:14around Ji-hun's journey to stop the games.
07:17It's unclear if he'll be a contestant on the next round,
07:20but it's definitely possible.
07:22It would be more interesting
07:23to see a new group of contestants.
07:25In an interview, protagonist Lee Jong-jae
07:28seemed to confirm that the frontman,
07:29played by Lee Byung-hun,
07:31would move from largely being in the shadows
07:33into a lead role.
07:35As we all saw at the end of season one,
07:37the main plot of season two will be revenge,
07:39and the key figure who controlled the workings
07:41of the games in season one was Lee Byung-hun.
07:44So it seems that the two of us
07:45will be the central figures of this next story.
07:48Jung Ho-yeon has addressed several fan theories
07:51about season two after many viewers
07:53have speculated her character Kang Sae-byeok
07:55might have survived.
07:57In a YouTube video with Vanity Fair,
07:59the actor debunked the theories seen on Reddit.
08:02The star disagreed with a Reddit user's suggestion
08:05that her character's little brother, Chul,
08:07could enter the game to avenge her death,
08:09saying,
08:10my brother shouldn't go there to play.
08:12I'm gonna say no for that.
08:15As to the rumors that player one is 456th father,
08:18given the latter dislikes milk,
08:19just like player one's son,
08:21and that he and player one's son have the same birthday,
08:24Ho-yeon replied,
08:25it could make sense,
08:27but that's even more stressful to watch.
08:29Do you guys need more stress?
08:31Maybe the director, Hwang, needs more stress,
08:35but I'm a more peaceful person.
08:38The actor also shut down rumors
08:40that her character survived at the end of season one.
08:42While she said she also wishes her character saved herself,
08:46she also is quite happy that her character died.
08:49The first season of Squid Game
08:51is available to Bing to watch on Netflix.
08:53When Squid Game season two is released,
08:56you can watch it exclusively on Netflix.
08:58As mentioned before,
08:59it's going to be a while until that happens.
