00:22Clean and sufficient supply of water.
00:25This is followed by the opening of the impounding process of the Upper Wawa Dam in Rodriguez Rizal,
00:33which was led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:41The dam that supplies water to 14 million people in Metro Manila and nearby provinces is getting more difficult.
00:50This significant milestone marks the completion of the construction of the dam component of Phase 2 of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project.
01:01The Upper Wawa Dam will be the biggest water source to be built in the country in over 50 years, next to the Angat Dam.
01:09Having been accomplished a year ahead of schedule,
01:13this monumental development has set a new standard for infrastructure projects of similar magnitude in terms of scale and impact.
01:23The President's point is that the supply of water from the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project is expected to increase to 438 million liters per day,
01:33from the previous 80 million liters only.
01:36It is time for the Upper Wawa Dam to be fully operational before the end of 2025.
01:42According to the President, this number may increase to 710 million liters per day in the coming years.
01:50These 438 to 710 million liters per day translate to supporting the water supply needs of about 2.2 to 3.5 million Filipinos in the MWSS service area.
02:06This dam will also foster climate resilience amongst our people
02:10by protecting our communities downstream from flooding and by mitigating the detrimental effects of drought.
02:17The Executive Board of Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project also agreed that this project will be part of the government's continued efforts
02:23to build infrastructures in various parts of the country to have an expected water supply.
02:30This project was made possible thanks to the help of the private sector.
02:34At the same time, the Executive Board of Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project asked the dam operators to maximize the dams in the country,
02:40not only in the use of water but also in the generation of renewable energy.
02:46He also emphasized the importance of having multi-purpose dams
02:51so that the water supply of irrigation, power generation, flood control, and aquaculture can be assured.
02:59Rest assured that this administration remains firm in its resolve to pursue a more transformative endeavor
03:07that will champion the optimal health and growth of Filipinos across the country.
03:13We will continue to address water security challenges to ensure that every Filipino has access to sufficient and clean water.
03:24At the end of the day, water remains at the core, not only for human survival but also for national development.
03:33Water is life.
03:37President Marcos Jr. also encouraged the public to be smart in using water.
