00:00Today the Senate will vote on the Reproductive Freedom for Women Act.
00:04Senate Republicans must answer a very simple question.
00:08Do they believe that women should be trusted to make their own health care choices?
00:12Yes or no?
00:14Will Republicans stand with the majority of Americans,
00:17stand with the mainstream, and stand against Donald Trump
00:20by affirming a woman's fundamental right to choose?
00:23Will Republicans show courage and declare,
00:26as most people in this country prefer,
00:29that the basic protections of Roe v. Wade should be the law of the land?
00:34I want to thank Senator Murray from the great state of Washington
00:37for leading this bill,
00:39and every single female senator on our side of the aisle for co-sponsoring it.
00:44Today's vote will not be the end of the struggle to secure reproductive freedoms,
00:49but it's an important step forward.
00:52Americans want to see where their senators stand.
00:57By voting on these bills on women's health,
01:00we are moving the issue forward
01:02because it's very important and very reasonable for members to be called on
01:06to take a position on a vital issue.
01:09Of course, many Republicans would rather sweep reproductive health under the rug,
01:15saying it's political, but this is not political.
01:17This is the essence of what elected government is like.
01:22We all know these issues are deeply personal to so many people,
01:25and Americans ought to be able to see how their senators vote.
01:31All year long, Senate Republicans have shown everyone
01:34just how out of touch they are with the mainstream.
01:38When senators blocked federal protections for contraception,
01:42when they blocked protections for IVF,
01:45they chose MAGA extremism over the American people.
01:49When Donald Trump pushed not one, not two, but three radical justices to the Supreme Court
01:54with the explicit goal of overturning Roe,
01:57Senate Republicans confirmed them without question.
02:00It was Trump who said, quote,
02:02if we put another two or three justices on the court, that will happen, unquote.
02:07Every time Senate Republicans have gotten a chance to do the right thing this year,
02:12they have consistently doubled down on their anti-woman agenda.
02:16Just yesterday, Senate Republicans again and again came to the floor
02:21to protect women's reproductive freedoms.
02:24Of course, if my Republican colleagues take issue with being called out
02:28for their bared record on women's issues, they have another option.
02:32They should vote yes today.
02:35Maybe it will happen.
02:37Unlikely, but you always hope.
02:40If Republicans don't think women, on the other hand, are second-class citizens,
02:45they should vote yes.
02:47If Republicans don't think women are second-class citizens, they should vote yes.
02:52If Republicans do, in fact, trust women to make their own reproductive choices,
02:56they should vote yes.
02:58I urge them, do the right thing.
03:00And I remind them, America is watching.
