00:00Now we review the 6th film in the Lep Twinkie Monster Saga, Despicable Me 4.
00:09Alright ladies and gentlemen, so I am Richard, this is Random Street Theater, and I have seen Despicable Me 4.
00:18Let me just remind you folks that I have not seen all of the Despicable Me films or the Minions movies.
00:27So I think I saw two Despicable Me films and maybe one or perhaps part of one Despicable Me movie or Minion movie.
00:39So I do not know all the intricacies of the inept Twinkie Monster Saga, alright?
00:47Not my thing.
00:50But before I get any further, let me remind you that for every 1,000 subscribers I get, I do purchase one of these bracelets from the company 4ocean.
00:59If you would be so kind as to comment, like, and subscribe, you would be doing your part for a better world,
01:03as 4ocean will pull a pound of trash out of the ocean every time I do that, so yes.
01:07Anyway, so in the beginning of Despicable Me 4, you have the phallic-nosed Gru goes to his high school reunion to apprehend Bugman.
01:22And, I mean, the name is like Maxime or something? Maxime Lemel.
01:28And he is a French cockroach.
01:31Very insulting to the French, I guess, but it's a cartoon.
01:36And he has invented a ray that makes him part cockroach so that he can be a better supervillain.
01:41And of course they have a rivalry with him and Gru.
01:45So Gru shows up and they fight.
01:49He gets arrested by whatever organization Gru now works for.
01:55And dude breaks out and swears revenge.
02:00That's your premise for the movie.
02:03Beyond that, you know, Gru has to go and do witness protection, or protection of some kind.
02:10And the majority of his inept Twinkie Monsters go to the spy headquarters to be super-soldiered.
02:18So we've got fantastic four Twinkie Monsters.
02:26There's Super Strong Twinkie Monster.
02:28There's Eat Anything Twinkie Monster.
02:31There's Laser Beam Twinkie Monster.
02:38Am I getting it right?
02:41I mean, I think there are four of them. Maybe there are five of them.
02:44Because there's Stretchy Twinkie Monster and Flying Twinkie Monster.
02:48Or is Stretchy Twinkie... I don't know. Anyway.
02:51So look, there's a Super Strong Twinkie Monster, an Eat Anything Twinkie Monster, a Laser Beam Twinkie Monster,
02:58a Superman Twinkie Monster, and Stretch Armstrong Twinkie Monster.
03:02And, you know, these characters have little to do with the story.
03:08They're a side plot.
03:11The primary plot revolves around Gru.
03:14He's got, I think, his three most loyal minions helping him out.
03:18He's not getting along with his infant son.
03:22And he is blackmailed to go steal the mascot from his high school, which is a honey badger.
03:29Alright.
03:30So, yeah, there's a lot of moving parts to this.
03:34There's the annoying rich neighbors, and the supervillain trying to kidnap Gru's son,
03:40and the school faculty, and all those sorts of things.
03:46Alright. Yeah, there's a lot of moving parts to this.
03:49I've seen a lot of reviewers who really hate this film for some reason.
03:54And that appears to be a thing that is a reviewer-centric concept,
03:59because IMDb is giving this a 6.4, which is pretty low,
04:04and critics on Rotten Tomatoes are giving it a 52%, which, again, is very low.
04:09But audiences on Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango both give it a 90% approval rating.
04:16So I have to say, you know, Steve Carell still got it as Gru.
04:24Will Ferrell pretty much nails it as Maxime Lemel.
04:29And I found it to be a fairly entertaining movie.
04:32In fact, in the movie theater, there was one person who just couldn't stop laughing.
04:37I don't recall if other people were laughing,
04:39but there was this one guy who was just laughing so hard, I think he wet himself.
04:44And, look, I hate everything. You guys have known that I don't like things.
04:49I like this.
04:51Yeah, there were a lot of moving parts, but it is a cartoon.
04:55And as a cartoon, the characters are very distinct.
04:59Even the minions seem to be distinct enough to be worth it.
05:04And, you know, okay, so you've got a lot of kind of cliché things,
05:11and you know what's going to happen.
05:13I mean, it's like these movies have a very solid formula at this point.
05:18The minions aren't apt. Gru is unstoppable.
05:22And, you know, the agency the dude works for can't get anything right, I'm assuming.
05:28I don't remember much about them.
05:30But, you know, this is a fun film.
05:34And one of the standouts for this film is that the music is really great.
05:39The end of the film is the two main characters singing, you know,
05:45everybody wants to rule the world.
05:47And, you know, it's like you enjoy it.
05:50You just enjoy every moment of this film.
05:52I don't know why people are saying it's not as good as the other films.
05:56I haven't seen the other films.
05:58I don't know if it's as good as the other films.
06:00But I think your enjoyment of this film may really belong very much
06:05in the concept of what is your expectation.
06:11And look, this is a kids' movie.
06:14I walked into this film thinking it's a kids' movie.
06:18I'm probably not going to like it.
06:20All right?
06:22It's going to be predictable and silly.
06:27And I don't think I laughed once.
06:30But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the film.
06:32So really, you know, this film, maybe it doesn't stack up very well
06:36compared to the other films.
06:38But it's not like Indiana Jones 4, which was a complete and total letdown,
06:43or Indiana Jones 5, which was a complete and total letdown,
06:47or The Last Jedi, which most people think was a letdown.
06:51I personally think that this film is solid enough.
06:54It belongs in the upper half of your watch list.
06:57If you have kids, this is probably going to be a must-watch film for you
07:02because they probably love their little inept Twinkie Monsters.
07:07Incidentally, the Twinkie Monsters love banana.
07:10Did you know that Twinkies originally had banana-flavored filling?
07:14Yes, it was because of the lack of bananas for World War II
07:18that meant that, well, I think it was World War II,
07:20it was a banana shortage that caused the filling to become cream
07:24as opposed to banana filling.
07:26So yes, yes, they're just trying to get back to their roots
07:29by chasing bananas.
07:31Anyway, Despicable Me 4 is a solid enough film.
07:35You will enjoy it.
07:37I did anyway.
07:39So I say upper half of the watch list,
07:42better than most children's movies out there,
07:45or most children's movies I've seen.
07:48And, I mean, I don't like anything.
07:50So there you have it. That's my opinion.
07:52Love to hear yours. Comments below.
07:54I'm Richard.
07:55Greetings, humanity.
07:57Once again, Fred the Facehugger here,
07:59reminding you to comment, like, and subscribe.
08:01And, of course, you should do that because, if you look,
08:04I am wearing two bracelets.
08:06These bracelets are from 4ocean,
08:08a company that pulls a pound of trash out of the ocean
08:11every time somebody buys something from them.
08:14Well, the owner of this channel has pledged to buy one bracelet
08:17for every thousand subscribers.
08:19And it's a very, very dirty ocean that you dirtied.
08:23So you should help him out
08:25and comment, like, and subscribe,
08:28therefore having him more subscribers
08:31so that he can buy more bracelets
08:33and clean that ocean.
08:35Or, um, yeah, I could fulfill my life cycle
08:39and hug your face.
08:41Don't you want a hug?
08:43Come over here. I want to give you a hug.
08:45I want to give you a hug right now.
08:47Yes. Yes. Come over here, polluting human.
08:49Let me give you a hug.
