00:00It is the largest water supply infrastructure built in the last half-century that will go
00:05a long way to fill out the water needs of a rapidly growing megacity.
00:10And today, the President went to the site in Rodriguez Town in Rizal Province to preside
00:15over the launching of the Upper Wawa Dam as our Kenneth Paciente lays out in this report.
00:23Clean and adequate water supply, that's what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured
00:29During the impounding process ceremony of the Upper Wawa Dam in Rodriguez, Rizal, according
00:34to the President, this will be a great help to the water supply not only in the area but
00:39also in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, especially since the Angat Dam is struggling
00:44to supply water to 14 million people in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
00:49This significant milestone marks the completion of the construction of the dam component of
00:55Phase 2 of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project.
01:00The Upper Wawa Dam will be the biggest water source to be built in the country in over
01:0550 years, next to the Angat Dam.
01:08Having been accomplished a year ahead of schedule, this monumental development has set a new
01:15standard for infrastructure projects of similar magnitude in terms of scale and impact.
01:22The President pointed out the water supply from the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project is
01:27expected to boost the water supply to 438 million liters per day from the previous 80
01:33million liters only.
01:34That is once the Upper Wawa Dam hits full operational status before the end of 2025.
01:40The President emphasized this could increase in the coming years to reach 710 million liters
01:45per day.
01:46These 438 to 710 million liters per day translate to supporting the water supply needs of about
01:542.2 to 3.5 million Filipinos in the MWSS service area.
02:02This dam will also foster climate resilience amongst our people by protecting our communities
02:08downstream from flooding and by mitigating the detrimental effects of drought.
02:13The Chief Executive also pointed out this project is part of the government's ongoing
02:17efforts to build infrastructure in different parts of the country to ensure reliable water
02:22supply, something made possible with the help of the private sectors.
02:26At the same time, the Chief Executive urged dam operators to maximize the dams in the
02:31country not only for water use but also for generating renewable energy.
02:36He also emphasized the importance of having multipurpose dams to ensure adequate supply
02:41for drinking water, irrigation, power generation, flood control, and aquaculture.
02:46Rest assured that this administration remains firm in its resolve to pursue a more transformative
02:54endeavor that will champion the optimal health and growth of Filipinos across the country.
03:01We will continue to address water security challenges to ensure that every Filipino has
03:08access to sufficient and clean water.
03:12At the end of the day, water remains at the core, not only for human survival but also
03:19for national development.
03:22Water is life.
03:25The Chief Executive also urged the public to use water wisely.
03:29Kenneth Paciente, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
