Commanders Get an Offseason Grade of B? Do You Agree?

00:06forever. I've known Ralph a while. We worked at SMY for a long time. All season grade for

00:12the commanders is a B says on the surface. Most of their free agent additions are generally

00:18unimpressive. They are decent, solid players who are unspectacular. They did not go shopping

00:24for stars, but they get a decent grade because their plan is sound. Only a foolish team would

00:30have gone on a spending spree in free agency in the hopes of becoming an immediate contender.

00:35That's just not how it works in the NFL. Sound like the previous people. Yeah. Yeah. The

00:40new commander's regime inherited a bad team that didn't have a strong base of young talent.

00:45They needed to build that, which they have tried to do through a very full draft class.

00:49The veterans they brought in were really just for support. If Daniels is good, they

00:54might have enough to be a mediocre team. One that hangs around the fringes of the playoff

00:58chase until late in the season, but they know they are still a couple of years away from

01:02being a true contender. They're trying to get there by growing young talent and they

01:06clearly know they can't do that with money. It mostly takes time. I completely agree with

01:13that. I think that's really fair.

01:15It takes time, but I think when you bring those veteran players in, who can fill in

01:23if a young guy who you pick doesn't just get it right then, that's a sound way of doing

01:29it. Now, if things happen to work out, what if your veteran player can play very well,

01:34but he's a guy who's been injured a little bit. Now he doesn't have to play all the time

01:38because a young guy is stepping up as well. You can reach what you need to reach quicker.

01:43And I believe that they're doing it right. They have never said we're competing this

01:47year. They've never said retooling. We thought that in the past because they always said

01:53that crap and they should have been rebuilding. They have in a sense rebuilt something in

02:00a quicker way by getting veteran players that have gotten to their prime, who knows how

02:06to play, who understands this league. So they don't say it, but they've rebuilt.
