00:00Now to the Southeastern Conference, where it just means more college football programs.
00:09Oklahoma and Texas enter the SEC this year.
00:13The flag bearers, the standard bearers of the Big 12, the powerhouse programs now make
00:18the trip to the Southeastern Conference.
00:22But still at the top of the table, Joe, it's a familiar name.
00:26Texas, the Georgia Bulldogs, UGA booked as the favorites to win the SEC at plus 185.
00:32And despite winning two national championships in the last three years, Georgia has only
00:36won the SEC once in that three year span, falling short against Alabama in both 2021
00:43and a season ago.
00:44Like in the Big 10, Oregon, a newcomer, second best price, Texas, the newcomer to the SEC,
00:50second best number at plus 310.
00:52It's going to be intriguing to see how Texas and Oklahoma handle the Big 12, the SEC schedule
00:57from the Big 12, because we saw Big 12 teams, Cincinnati, BYU, Houston, and UCF struggle
01:04with the week to week.
01:05And we saw Texas go into Tuscaloosa as a six and a half point dog and get the victory.
01:09You could do it maybe one week.
01:11Can you do it for 12 or 13 weeks?
01:14If they can, then Texas is going to be there.
01:16I think Texas does have a better shot than Oklahoma this year when yours comes back.
01:21But again, we're going to see these games play out.
01:23Georgia travels to Texas in early October, and we see Georgia and Alabama squaring off
01:29in late September.
01:30So this really will dictate how the SEC championship plays out this year.
01:35You look at the SEC conference schedules now for the 16 member institutions of this league,
01:40and I would not wish that on even my own worst enemy.
01:44Some have it more favorable.
01:45For instance, the Longhorns' first year in the SEC, in comparison, not as bad as their
01:50Red River rivals, Oklahoma.
01:52Oh boy, we'll talk about the Sooners in just a little bit.
01:56But let's start with a team normally we would see at the top.
01:59But right now, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the fourth best price to win the SEC title at
02:04plus 950.
02:06With all of the changes just in the overall landscape, expanded CFP, conference realignment,
02:13one of the biggest changes is no more Nick Saban retiring this past offseason after 17
02:19years at the helm in Tuscaloosa.
02:22Taking over is Kalen DeBoer, and it's a win total that many Crimson Tide faithful are
02:27not used to seeing.
02:28Nine and a half in the under has the juice.
02:31What can we expect from Kalen DeBoer and his Tide program in his opening year in Tuscaloosa?
02:36I think quarterback efficiency.
02:38That's the one thing that he coached up Michael Pinnocks and leading that team to a national
02:41championship appearance.
02:43They're going to spread it and throw it, but Alabama's up against it.
02:47They potentially lose their best offensive weapon in regards to Isaiah Bond.
02:51Now with the Texas Longhorns, you lose your lockdown corner, Kalen Downs to Ohio State.
02:57And again, Kalen DeBoer is a great coach.
02:59Coached up Fresno State and Washington, but this is like coaching in the tri-state New
03:03York area.
03:04The pressure and expectations are there from year one.
03:08Nine and three isn't acceptable in Tuscaloosa, so we'll see how this plays out.
03:13But again, I think the pressure is on Jalen Milrow and the offensive line is a cause of
03:17concern.
03:1843-44 sacks allowed, one of the worst in Alabama over the past five seasons.
03:23They need to shore that up to have success.
03:26It might've been the thing that sent Nick Saban to retirement.
03:28He was so mad about the O-line play a year ago and we saw it on full display in the Rose
03:33Bowl against Michigan.
03:35Nine and three still might keep Alabama in consideration for the college football playoff,
03:40but boy, they haven't won less than double-digit games in a long time.
03:43He'd have to go all the way back to Nick Saban's debut year in Tuscaloosa.
03:47That was 2007.
03:50Alabama fans that are a little bit younger might not remember this, but in the 10 years
03:53before Nick Saban, four years with a losing record.
03:57I don't think it's going to be that bad.
03:58Jalen Milrow still there in Tuscaloosa, should be great under Kalen DeBoer, but just slightly
04:04reset those expectations.
04:07We looked at the Georgia Bulldogs with the best price to win the SEC.
04:10Again, two teams have a win total of 10.5 nationally where the over has the juice.
04:15Ohio State out of the Big Ten, the Bulldogs out of the SEC.
04:19Joe, in the last three seasons, Georgia has lost two games, both in the SEC championship
04:25against Alabama.
04:26That is a 42-2 record with two national championships and a 60-point blowout victory in the Orange
04:33Bowl to boot last December.
04:36What do you think Georgia is in store for here in 2024?
04:39A dynamic season.
04:40I think 11 wins or bust.
04:42I think they have potentially the best quarterback at least returning in the SEC.
04:46That being Carson Beck, 24 touchdowns, six interceptions, five games last year.
04:51Ben, he threw for over 300 yards.
04:53They won those five games by an average margin of victory of 26.1 points per game, six starters
04:59coming back on defense.
05:00We know Kirby Smart coaches up just like Dan Lanning, right?
05:04His assistant coaches up the offense and defense lines.
05:07If they can run the football, they're going to win ballgames as well.
05:11There is offensive balance.
05:12That crazy statistic that I throw out, since 2016, every time Georgia pounds the rock for
05:18over 200, they are an amazing 49-0 against FBS and FCS opponents.
05:23FBS victories, 45-0 by 30 points per game.
05:27They are going to be a difficult out.
05:29Best team in the SEC heading into 2024.
