Many people thought this day would never come, but Oldham Coliseum has been saved. The much-loved regional theatre has been given a second chance thanks to the hard work of a dedicated team of volunteers and a £10m lifeline.

We went to speak Julie and Ian at the much-loved theatre as they prepared to announce the news to their suppporters.

00:00Hi everybody, I'm Julie Esmond-Dalsh, an actor and an Oldhamer by proxy, by marriage actually,
00:06and someone who loves this theatre very much, and it has been my unbelievable honour and
00:11privilege to have been chosen by the Save Our Coliseum group, which I've been part of
00:16for many months now, campaigning and meeting and meeting again, that the Oldham Coliseum
00:22Theatre, Fairbottom Street, the original, the OG, here behind me, beautiful as ever,
00:29is going to be opening for a pansel in 2025. I know, I can't believe it either. Please
00:36take this as an absolute fresh start, we're going to need all the support we can get from
00:42local people, theatre goers, artists, businesses, different people in culture across Greater
00:48Manchester to pull together to try and make this work now, and I am absolutely sure that
00:54with the backing of Oldham Council, who have listened to their people and have had the
00:59humility to change their mind, that we can make a really, really amazing start of this.
