00:00The U.S. has opposed the 9th of May riots and looting in Pakistan.
00:05The translator of the U.S. Foreign Ministry, Matthew Miller, said in a weekly press briefing,
00:09We oppose extremist activities.
00:12We should take a peaceful approach to protest.
00:15The Pakistani people have suffered a lot from terrorists.
00:18Our common interest is to deal with the dangers of security.
00:23Legitimate free expression, including the right to protest,
00:27the right to peaceful assembly, and we oppose violent actions.
00:34We impose vandalism, looting, arson.
00:37That would be true anywhere in the world.
00:40All protests should be conducted peacefully,
00:43and governments should deal with them consistent with the rule of law
00:46and respect for free speech.
00:48So the Pakistani people have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists.
00:51We have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security.
00:54We partner with a range of Pakistani civilian institutions
00:57and regularly engage the government of Pakistan to identify opportunities
01:00to build capacity and strengthen regional security,
01:03including at our annual high-level counterterrorism dialogue.
