00:07hospital was severely damaged.
00:11Parisians are relieved and concerned about the French legislative election results.
00:21Israel has ordered the evacuation of Gaza City, an indication that there might be an
00:26increase of military action in the area.
00:31The global temperature for June 2024 set a record for the 13th consecutive month.
00:45Russia has unleashed the biggest attack on Kiev in several months. At least seven people
00:51died in the capital, and its biggest children's hospital was severely damaged.
00:57Ukraine said Russia used hypersonic missiles, which travelled ten times the speed of sound.
01:06Falling debris from intercepted artillery set out fires across several districts in
01:12the capital.
01:13Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said apartment buildings and public infrastructure
01:20were struck in other cities as well. The morning attack killed at least 20 people
01:25across the country. Zelensky's native city of Krivyi Rih was hit hard with 10 fatalities.
01:34The strike occurred on the eve of a crucial three-day NATO summit in Washington, where
01:40Ukraine's allies will discuss their support to Kiev for the coming months.
01:48Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has made an unexpected visit to China, following
01:53similar trips to Ukraine and Russia to discuss a peace settlement for Ukraine.
02:00According to Chinese media, Orban praised China's constructive and important initiatives
02:06for achieving peace, and described Beijing as a stabilising force amid global turbulence
02:12during a press conference with the country's President Xi Jinping.
02:17Meanwhile, it's reported Xi Jinping called on world powers to help Russia and Ukraine
02:22resume direct dialogue and negotiations.
02:27Just two months ago, the Chinese President made a similar trip to Budapest as part of
02:32his three-country European tour, which also included stops in France and Serbia.
02:38During the visit, Hungary and China signed a number of new agreements to deepen their
02:43economic and cultural cooperation.
02:48A left-wing coalition has won the most seats in the second round of France's high-stakes
02:55parliamentary elections.
02:57According to the final results, the new Popular Front Alliance formed just three weeks ago
03:02won 182 seats.
03:05289 seats are needed for a majority in the 577-seat National Assembly.
03:12President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Ensemble coalition came in second with 168, while the
03:18far-right National Rally, widely tipped to win after coming out on top in the first round,
03:23finished with 143 seats.
03:27The leader of France Unbowed, the largest party in the winning coalition, said the result
03:31was a clear rejection of Macron and that the president should call on the new Popular Front
03:36to govern.
03:37The president must bow and accept this defeat without trying to avoid it in any way.
03:50The Prime Minister must leave.
03:52He has never received the confidence of the National Assembly, he has just led the campaign
04:02President of the far-right National Rally, Jordan Bardella, blamed his party's failure
04:13at the polls on what he called the Alliance of Dishonour.
04:17Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said he would tender his resignation to Macron on Monday
04:43morning, saying tonight a new era begins.
04:48This is uncharted territory for modern France, which has never experienced a parliament with
04:53no dominant party.
04:55Macron has several options, including seeking a deal with the moderate left to create a
05:00joint government, or naming a government of experts unaffiliated with political parties
05:05to handle the day-to-day work of keeping France running.
05:09His officer said he would wait for the new National Assembly to take shape before taking
05:14the necessary decisions.
05:18Despite the National Rally's surprising third place in the second round of the French legislative
05:23elections, its party leaders are still refusing to qualify it as a defeat.
05:28According to Marine Le Pen, the historic leader of the far-right party, this is only a deferred
05:33a victory, claiming that this sets up the National Rally for what she believes is a
05:38solid chance at victory in the upcoming 2027 French presidential elections.

05:52The UK's Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said Westminster's commitment to Ukraine is
05:57ironclad.
06:00Lammy was speaking in Hobielin after meeting his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski,
06:05where the two ministers discussed security issues ahead of next week's NATO summit in
06:09Washington.
06:12They stress both countries were prepared to provide long-term support to Ukraine, with
06:16Lammy saying that the UK took its commitment to Ukraine and NATO very, very seriously indeed.
06:23And of course what I think will be achieved over the coming days is that we demonstrate
06:32to Putin that we are there for the long haul and that the finances to support Ukraine financially,
06:47militarily and in terms of aid are there and that the alliance is firm and very importantly
06:56united.
06:59Sikorski said NATO leaders would present a united front at the 75th summit in Washington,
07:04saying Poland is a front-runner in terms of helping Ukraine.
07:08So we will confirm that we are the most powerful alliance in history and that the fate of Ukraine
07:19is in our best interest and the best thing Putin could do is to withdraw from the catastrophic
07:28criminal mistake he has made.
07:31Lammy's whirlwind first trip as Foreign Secretary, which also saw him visit Germany and Sweden,
07:36aims to reset ties between the UK and the EU.
07:41And a reset was also on the agenda for Keir Starmer, who is visiting all four constituent
07:46nations of the United Kingdom.
07:49In Scotland on Sunday, which Starmer billed as an immediate reset with the devolved governments,
07:54he said he would seek to improve the UK's trade deal with the European Union, which
07:58he called botched.
08:04Israel has ordered the evacuation of Gaza City, an area from which thousands of Palestinians
08:10have already fled as a result of heavy bombing in the early days of the war.
08:17The demolished city's remaining residents were seen leaving over the weekend, some pushing
08:22the elderly and the injured on wheelchairs, others carrying young children on their shoulders.
08:28The evacuation order could indicate an increase in Israeli military action in Gaza City and
08:34residents have already reported intense bombing in the eastern and southern areas.
08:39Over the weekend, it was reported Hamas has agreed to drop its demand that Israel promise
08:45to end the war as part of any ceasefire deal.
08:49Several officials in the Middle East and the US believe this softening of stance is the
08:53result of the level of destruction in Gaza.
08:58According to Gaza's health ministry, the Israeli air and ground offensive has killed
09:02more than 38,000 people since the start of the war.
09:07The military action has also caused widespread devastation and a humanitarian crisis that
09:13has left hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of famine, according to international
09:18officials.
09:25Thousands of Israelis have staged a mass protest blocking roads in Tel Aviv in what they're
09:29calling a day of disruption to mark nine months of war in Gaza.
09:34The rally started at 6.29am local time, the moment when Hamas launched its first rockets
09:40ahead of its incursion into Israel on October 7.
09:44Protesters are demanding more action from the government to secure the release of the
09:47Israeli still being held hostage in Gaza.
09:51Around 120 Israelis are still being held captive by Hamas.
10:00Preparations are underway in Washington, D.C. ahead of the 75th NATO summit.
10:06Leaders from the 32 member states will gather in the US capital for the annual meeting which
10:11takes place from July 9 to 11.
10:15Russia's invasion of Ukraine and continued military support for the country is expected
10:19to be high on the agenda.
10:22The North Atlantic Treaty was signed by 12 countries on April 4, 1949 to ensure their
10:28collective defense.
10:33The global temperature in June set a record for the 13th consecutive month.
10:38More than a year long of record-breaking hot months continued this trend through June,
10:42according to the European Climate Service Copernicus.
10:45The global temperature in June was a new record high and it marked the 12th month in
10:49a row that the world was 1.5 degrees warmer than pre-industrial times.
10:54It's a stark warning that we are getting closer to this very important limit set by the Paris
11:03agreement.
11:04The global temperature is continuing to increase.
11:09It has been at a rapid pace and the records have been also shattered by very substantial
11:19margin over the past 13 months.
11:22So that was quite remarkable as well.
11:25Globally June 2024 averaged 16.66 degrees, which is 0.67 Celsius above the 30-year average
11:32for this month.
11:33The last record for the hottest June was set in 2023.
11:37This year's June is the third hottest of any month recorded in Copernicus records,
11:42which goes back to 1940, behind only last July and last August.
