00:00Two days after a landslide election victory returned the UK Labour Party to power,
00:05the new minister has arrived at 10 Downing Street for the first cabinet meeting.
00:09New Prime Minister Keir Starmer greeting his cohorts underlined the scale of the task ahead.
00:14I welcome you to it, we have a huge amount of work to do, so now we get on with our work.
00:21Speaking afterwards, Starmer said the first priority would be to turn around a sluggish economy.
00:26On Thursday we also got a mandate on economic growth, the number one mission of the Labour government.
00:34And so we discussed at cabinet and have started the work on driving growth
00:39and to make sure that growth is everywhere across the whole country
00:44so that people are better off everywhere, wherever they live.
00:48Starmer said he would visit all four nations of the United Kingdom on Sunday
00:52and consult with mayors of British cities next week, including those from other parties.
00:56And he emphasised his government would set itself higher ethical standards than those of its predecessor.
01:02It's a mandate not just to govern, although it is certainly that,
01:06but it's a mandate that has put trust in us to change the country and to deliver.
01:12And it's a mandate to do politics differently and that change started yesterday as well.
01:18And one of the first things the new government did was to immediately shelve
01:22the former Tory government's controversial Rwanda immigration scheme,
01:25which Starmer dismissed as dead and buried, before it started.
