00:00Sakir Starmer is the UK's new Prime Minister and has promised to hit the ground running
00:04as soon as he enters No. 10.
00:05So, what are the party's immediate priorities?
00:08Well, the first is axing Rishi Sunak's stalled, multi-million pound Rwanda scheme.
00:13Labour aim to instead tackle immigration through a new border security command
00:17and appointing hundreds of new specialist investigators.
00:20Kickstarting home building is also a top priority for the party,
00:23with at least three announcements expected in the first few weeks.
00:26Labour has also vowed to focus on restoring economic stability and cutting NHS waiting lists.
00:31Prisons are also an issue the new government will have to tackle quickly,
00:34as it's feared jails could run out of space within days.
00:37Further down the line, Labour is expected to establish the centrepiece of its green
00:41energy plans, Great British Energy.
00:43This would be a new, publicly owned company that will invest in renewables and nuclear projects.
00:48Other new laws could be to strengthen workers' rights,
00:51crack down on antisocial behaviour and gradually nationalise the railways.
00:55The party also plans to resurrect some of Rishi Sunak's planned but failed legislation,
00:59including a smoking ban for under-15s and an end to no-fault evictions.
01:04After Parliament's summer break, September will be dominated by party conferences.
01:08And following that, new Chancellor Rachel Reeves will
01:10be put to the test when she delivers her first budget.
