00:00If you're waking up this morning you may already know if you were up late last
00:05night into the early hours but Labour have had a landslide victory keeping
00:10hold of a lot of Yorkshire. Rishi Sunak is one of the only Prime Ministers in
00:15the last 10 years who's actually managed to keep his seat in Richmond. Now I've
00:21been out and about this morning in Wakefield West Yorkshire where Simon
00:25Lightwood MP has kept hold of his seat here asking people their reactions.
00:40We'll have to see what happens. It's not it's not about the result it's about what
00:44happens. I think the country's in a mess.
00:48Don't bother no one gets in. All I did was I made my patch what I did my vote in
00:54yesterday and that's it but whatever happens I mean you know who's gonna
01:00who's gonna sort it out now.
01:02Pretty much exactly as we expected.
01:04Hopefully it'll turn a new page and hopefully have some positivity in the future.
01:08And you run a business here in Wakefield what has the past kind of few years been
01:14like for businesses?
01:16It's been really tough for us. Economic struggles caused the downturn in people heading to the city centre.
01:23So hopefully now that we've got a new government we should increase the amount of people in the city centre and hopefully benefit those around us.
01:30Morning sir. So you're setting up shop for the morning. How are you feeling about the general election results?
01:37I don't think it really matters one way or another.
01:41It's just I think every one of them is out for themselves rather than the pop culture.
01:48Have you ever been so disillusioned?
01:52When I was younger yes but not now. I'd hate to be a youngster now starting up. You won't be able to do it now.
02:02What do you think the hopes are for future?
02:06I don't think there's a lot of hope for anything to be honest. I'm not being defeatist. I just don't think there's much there.
02:14We'll have to wait and see what happens.
02:20How would you like to see things change?
02:26I don't know to be honest. You've caught me on the spot because I haven't actually been thinking about it at all.
02:36I've been up early this morning asking people their reaction to the general election results.
02:42And actually I'm quite surprised. It's the first time I've reported on a general election and there's no air of jubilation or even real opinions.
02:53Currently I've spoken to people who are relieved. They're angry at the whole system and have refused to vote.
03:01They just need some kind of change. Any change. They're not even bothered about who's in power.
03:09And it's just been really fascinating. I've never been in a general election and heard people's reactions.
03:16They are just so disgruntled and just out of the loop when it comes to politics.
03:23So however you're feeling as you wake up this morning, those in power have a lot of work to do to win back the public.
