00:11Jen, when you hit the screen the first time we met you, energetic,
00:15bubbly, this bright light, so I'm really drawn to you and so are the fans evidently.
00:20Congratulations with Bachelorette Season 21, Jen.
00:23Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. Yeah, it's kind of all been a whirlwind so far,
00:27but I'm so excited for it all to come out and for everyone to see my journey.
00:57Before starting your season, did you receive any advice from Joey or
01:04any former bachelor or bachelorette leads?
01:08So I actually did call Michelle Young before I went on the show just because I really wanted
01:13a perspective from a person of color and kind of just get to know what her experience was like
01:18and where to kind of go with it and she was really great with a lot of good guidance.
01:22What did she tell you and why did you specifically want to hear from someone
01:26who was a person of color?
01:27Well, you know, I'm the first Asian American bachelorette and I know that
01:32being in the limelight, like you get a lot of backlash for it and racism specifically and I
01:37wanted to know, you know, how she handled all of that and if she thought it was worth it in the
01:42end. So that was something that I really wanted to discuss with her and, you know, we're both in the
01:47same mindset in which like we want to keep making change happen and if we're the people who are
01:53spearheading that, then all the better.
01:56And the advice was probably keep your head down on a swivel or what did she, what was the advice?
02:01Yeah, oh yeah, she was like, you know what, just you know what you're doing for a reason
02:05and so there are going to be haters out there, there's going to be racism out there,
02:10but to know that, you know, you're doing it for a reason and just be strong-willed and strong-headed.
02:14What has been your strategy, Jen, on dealing with the trolls online?
02:19Yeah, it's tough, you know, I have good days and bad days. Today's a good day,
02:21yesterday was kind of a bad day for me and so it's like I really just have to talk myself out
02:26of it and put the phone down, you know. If I find myself scrolling a little too much in the comments
02:32and I'm reading things about myself, it's like that's just not healthy for you and so, but I'm
02:37only human, you know, and it definitely affects me. It definitely isn't nice to have so many people
02:42have an opinion about you, whether it's good or bad, and so I really just try to control my
02:46screen time and like really lean into my friends and family because they're the people that really
02:51know me, you know. Anyone who's commenting or anything or trying to hate on whatever they see
02:55online, it's like you don't really know me and my friends and family do and they're the ones that
02:59are going to tell me, hey, that wasn't good or like, hey, like you did really amazing and so
03:04they're the people that I really rely on.
03:07The first night meeting the contestants, always exciting but nerve-wracking too.
03:10How did you feel about that first night and the first rose ceremony? How did it go?
03:16I was so excited. Honestly, at that point, I was just ready to meet the men,
03:19like I was a little nervous, but I was mainly just excited. I wanted to see all the gimmicks,
03:24like what were they going to come out of the limo with? So I was just, every limo entrance,
03:28I feel like I was just getting more and more surprised. Like they were so thoughtful and
03:32they put in so much effort.
03:34When the guys are popping out and doing crazy things, can you give us a teaser on
03:38maybe the wildest thing that you didn't expect or maybe a way that a guy introduced
03:41himself to you that you were like, this is out of this world. Give us a little sprinkle on that.
03:47Um, you know what? Yeah. I mean, I will say there was somebody who, you know,
03:53obviously they've all seen, they saw my announcement and I said, I really wanted a
03:56big, big personality. And somebody came in with like a really nice car and he started
04:01talking to me and he was like, you know, I know you wanted someone with a really big, big,
04:05and I thought he was going to say personality and says, he says penis. And I was like, what's
04:09going on? I just met you two seconds ago. Um, so that definitely caught me way off guard.
04:14I was like, Oh, that was a lot.
04:17And you also that the ending of your season, it's never happened before. Why do you say
04:23that? What can you tell us about the ending?
04:25Um, it's definitely a shocker of an ending. It was a shocker to myself as well. You know,
04:29it's not how I saw, um, the journey ending when I first started it. So I'm really excited
04:35for everyone to, um, to watch that back.
04:39What other shocking moments from this season can you tease?
04:42Um, I can't always tease specific moments, but I will say there are a lot throughout
04:48the journey. I really felt like I was getting surprised every day. I was like on the edge
04:53of my seat. I was like, okay, what's going to happen today? So, um, there's always a
04:57new development happening. And so I'm really excited to watch it back.
05:01Now. I know that you can't tell us much. And I know, of course you can't tell us or
05:04confirm or deny if you're engaged or not, but are you happy with the outcome of your
05:10season?
05:12Yeah, I'm definitely happy with the outcome of the season. I think that the way the story
05:16played out is exactly the way it needed to play out. Um, and so, yeah, I'm very happy
05:21with the ending of it all. I'm like really just excited for it all. I really think like
05:26there's nothing that I regret. There's nothing that I'm like, like, um, you know, like scared
05:30of because I was so true to myself the entire journey that everything that I did is a reflection
05:35of me and I'm so proud of it all. So I'm so excited for people to really get to know me
05:40and hear my story. Thank you so much for your time. We truly appreciate you taking time
