00:00She's in over her head, so I have some some concerns."
00:04This week on 7 Little Johnstons, Amber is navigating her new normal in therapy.
00:09But first, Anna, Emma, and Liz had a fun sister night making some sushi,
00:13and things got a little dangerous.
00:15"-Anna, the knife! Holy s**t. You almost stabbed me in the eye.
00:20Well, maybe put the knife down before you open this up.
00:23Anna! I had to use it. You need to put this freaking knife down.
00:27Layton's asleep. Okay, but you almost...
00:29She's not asleep. She's awake, but put the knife down.
00:32Just cut your crap.
00:34She doesn't know how to use a knife, y'all.
00:35I didn't cut you, so you shouldn't be worried.
00:38You came very close. Very close."
00:43As they prepared their meal, the topic turned to Liz's motherhood journey,
00:46and if Anna and Emma might follow in her footsteps one day.
00:49"-They're going to give Layton some cousins.
00:51Yes, I want to give Layton some cousins.
00:53She might be 20 by that time, but...
00:55No, that's not true.
00:57Well, you know what it takes to, in order to get...
00:59Yes, I do know.
01:00What?
01:01Get a boyfriend.
01:02We're working on it.
01:04Time's a-tickin', and you about to be 24, and you about to be 19, and...
01:08People have babies when they're, like, three years old.
01:11I don't want to have babies right now."
01:12For now, there's just one baby with Layton,
01:14and she's already turned four months old.
01:17Liz and Bray celebrated by introducing her to solid food for the first time,
01:20which she kind of enjoyed.
01:22"-Ooh.
01:27What is she doing?
01:28She's spitting it out.
01:30Yeah, that's normal.
01:31A lot of it isn't gonna be...
01:32She's gonna push it out."
01:33In her first four months of life,
01:35Layton has already had quite a few exciting firsts.
01:38"-Layton has rolled from her belly to her back one time,
01:42so we're catching on with the rolling over.
01:46Hey, big girl.
01:48Hey.
01:50What you doing?
01:52Hey.
01:53Laughing.
01:53Yeah, laughing.
01:54That's super sweet.
01:59And then talking.
01:59Oh, we talk.
02:00We make lots of noises.
02:03What are you guys saying?
02:07Layton is coming up on her first Easter,
02:09and Anna went shopping with Autumn to find something to wear for the special holiday.
02:13Anna filled up the trip with hilarious moments,
02:15including this wild admission.
02:17"-Put the white shorts on with it.
02:18Okay.
02:19Oh my goodness.
02:20I don't have underwear on.
02:22I forgot.
02:24Ew!
02:25I could find them.
02:26You have some in your car?
02:28Yeah.
02:28I did not spend the night at my house last night,
02:30and, you know, I forgot some clothes to put on.
02:34Some undergarments.
02:35I'm gonna go to my car real quick.
02:38I had a sleepover with one of my friends,
02:41and I forgot to pack underwear."
02:45She ran to her car to get her underwear,
02:47and then tried on some more clothes,
02:48and the shopping spree ended with more laughs.
02:50"-Why do your socks not match?
02:59So, when I was getting dressed,
03:00I was really just checking the floor to make sure it was clean and mopped,
03:03and I accidentally slipped.
03:06That's why we can't go in public."
03:09Moving to Trent and Amber,
03:10they were continuing to figure out the next best steps for Poppy,
03:13who needs round-the-clock care,
03:14and Nana, who also needs some support.
03:16"-Right now, the plan would be that you live in with Heidi and Ella.
03:20Poppy's gonna be the biggest challenge.
03:22Whether we find an assisted living place,
03:25we will see him every day.
03:27One of us will see him every day."
03:29It's something they've thought about for a while,
03:31and we're ready to take action on.
03:32"-If action doesn't happen,
03:35we're just gonna continue marching to the same beat.
03:37And what will eventually happen is,
03:39one of them will go,
03:40and then it's gonna be scrambling
03:43to get the other one situated somewhere,
03:48and when you scramble and you start jumping,
03:50and you typically won't make the best decisions."
03:54Nana shared her candid thoughts on the situation
03:56and the complex feelings surrounding change.
03:58"-I know they're right, okay?
04:00I mean, I'm not stupid or anything.
04:03I know they're right,
04:04but it's reality.
04:06It's just putting it in motion.
04:08We've been in this house forever.
04:11It's just got a lot of,
04:12not only the memories,
04:13but I mean, you know, you're just comfortable.
04:15It's like being in your bed
04:17and pulling your cover all up
04:18and snuggling all down in there.
04:19You know, you're comfortable."
04:21Heidi explained that it would be tough
04:23to sell the house and say goodbye,
04:24but family is what matters most.
04:26"-You're more important than this house.
04:29You need to be around your family, Mom.
04:31You've always loved your family.
04:33If nothing else I can say that I've gained from you,
04:36it's just the love.
04:38Yeah.
04:39Well, we need to give that back.
04:41Yeah.
04:42But you need to allow us to do that.
04:44Let us.
04:45And you're not."
04:46As Amber helps with this transition,
04:47she's also juggling college,
04:49her internship,
04:50helping take care of Leighton
04:52and having a full house.
04:53And the stress is adding up.
04:54"-I wouldn't change being a grandparent
04:58for the world.
04:59But I would have changed the timing.
05:01There's not a perfect solution.
05:03It's a matter of...
05:05No, there's not a perfect solution.
05:07I'm not looking for that.
05:08It's a matter of dealing and coping with it
05:10and just making it through the weeks.
05:12I'm not looking at this in a negative way.
05:14I'm not either.
05:14But I'm looking at this in a realist way.
05:17I also know my limits and just...
05:20I don't want to get to a point
05:21where I'm just like...
05:25Amber revealed that she's going to see her therapist,
05:27Dr. Gayton,
05:27to help her better cope
05:28with this current chapter.
05:30At her appointment,
05:30she gave a candid update
05:32on her hectic family life
05:33and all her feelings surrounding it.
05:35"-I think where my biggest struggle is right now
05:37is this was like supposed to be my year.
05:40And I don't want to say
05:41that we're raising our grandchild
05:43because we're not.
05:44Elizabeth is very involved.
05:46She's a very wonderful mom.
05:48But we are doing a lot
05:52because of inadequate planning.
05:56Okay, so the emotion you're feeling
05:59around this is...
06:01Anger.
06:03Dr. Gayton helped Amber
06:04better understand that feeling.
06:06You had plans and resentment is spawned
06:09when there's a discrepancy
06:11between the way you expect things
06:12to be in the way they are.
06:14It can turn into some things
06:16like discouragement and anxiety
06:20and even sadness or depression."
06:23Amber also opened up
06:24about the differences
06:24between her and Trent's journey
06:26and Liz and Bryce's.
06:27"-We did life completely on our own.
06:30And we had kids early
06:32and we struggled.
06:33Trent was working three jobs
06:34just to get us groceries
06:36for the next week or whatever.
06:38And, of course,
06:39we don't want any of our kids
06:40to have to struggle.
06:41But then I'm like,
06:44am I really helping my kids that way?
06:47Because I feel like Trent
06:49and I learned how to work together.
06:52I worry that Elizabeth and Bryce
06:55wouldn't be able to work together
06:57to get through the struggle."
06:58Dr. Gayton encouraged Amber
06:59to take it day by day.
07:01And Amber left the session
07:02with three goals to focus on.
07:03"-Number one, I think,
07:04allow Liz and Bryce to do more.
07:10Number two, I want to come back
07:12to focusing more on the family
07:15and not fixing Elizabeth and Bryce.
07:20And then number three,
07:23focusing on Trent and I."
07:25While Amber is better learning
07:26to navigate the current situation,
07:28Liz and Bryce are starting to think
07:29about where they'll live next.
07:31During a double date with friends,
07:32Liz revealed that she and Bryce
07:34are looking to buy land
07:35to build their own home.
07:36And it could be within the next year.
07:38"-My parents have not been giving,
07:40like, any pressure with Bryce and I,
07:42like, in Layton needing to move out.
07:44I think they genuinely enjoy Layton.
07:46It's just sometimes, you know,
07:48when Bryce and I talk about,
07:50you know, it's going to be
07:51definitely different
07:52when we're under one roof.
07:54Less eyes on us, less noise
07:57and a little bit better in our opinion.
08:00So seeing my mom get a little more
08:02stressed than normal,
08:03Bryce and I definitely need to be
08:05looking into finding a place
08:07or working on building our home
08:09a lot sooner than expected."
