01:46Thank you. Thank you first of all to the returning officer, the police and everyone
01:53both here at the camp this evening and at organisations across North Shropshire who
01:57has worked so hard today to bring us this result safely and safely.
02:02And thank you to my fellow candidates for making this a campaign we can all be proud of.
02:07A special thank you to my family, Bob and Ben, to my brilliant election agent David
02:12Walker and to my incredible and tireless campaign team and to all the Liberal Democrat
02:17volunteers who have given up so much of their own time to come to North Shropshire and help
02:22us win this evening.
02:24This is your victory and this is a historic evening for Liberal Democrats.
02:29I also want to thank Ed Davey who has led from the front throughout this campaign.
02:34Whether charming alpacas here in Crime or paddled wadding in Windermere, he's injected
02:40some much needed fun into this election, while also putting front and centre the urgent
02:45crisis in the NHS and the need for reform of our care system.
02:50But most of all, thank you to the people here in North Shropshire, from Ward to Western
02:56Wrynn, Punt to Preece and in our beautiful towns of Oswestry, Ellesmere, Wem, Whitchurch
03:01and Market Drayton.
03:03Thank you for talking to me about your lives and your communities, for sharing your experiences
03:09and your worries and your hopes for the future.
03:12I've spoken to families and pensions who are struggling to make ends meet, small business
03:17owners at the heart of the local economy who need more support, and I've met hundreds
03:23of people who are waiting for weeks to see a GP or an NHS dentist, or have had a traumatic
03:28experience without an individual's vaccine and emergency care service.
03:32People of all walks of life have been let down and taken for granted again and again
03:37by an out-of-touch Conservative government, but tonight they've made their views clear.
03:42To everyone here in North Shropshire, regardless of your politics, I will listen to you, I
03:49will fight for you all year round and I promise to be a strong voice in Parliament.
03:55It's been the honour of a lifetime to represent our area for the last two and a half years.
04:00I was elected in the wake of a political scandal and a sense that North Shropshire would be
04:05taken for granted.
04:07I've worked as hard as I can to repay the trust placed in me and ensure that we are
04:12taken for granted no longer, and I'm truly humbled by the faith that people of North
04:17Shropshire have put in me again tonight.
04:20I love our community and to be re-elected to represent you in Parliament is truly a
04:25privilege and a responsibility I will continue to take very seriously.
04:31I won't let you down.
04:33You've told me the issues you want me to fight on.
04:35Tackling the cost of living, bringing services such as buses and decent mobile signal to
04:40Shropshire, but most of all, fixing the health and care crisis.
04:45So I will work as hard as I can every day to make it happen.
04:50I will be a strong voice for our local economy, our local environment and our local health
04:54services, and I will fight for the fair deal you deserve.
