00:00The Democrats and Republicans I've talked to post-debate have all described President Biden's performance as disastrous, devastating.
00:09I think the only one who had a positive word about his performance was Dr. Joe Biden directly after the debate.
00:16So what did this do to both his approval rating as well as Kamala Harris's?
00:22Well, President Biden's approval rating is at a two-year low.
00:28He's at about 38% in our poll together with Forbes.
00:34And so is Kamala Harris, right? 38% approval.
00:38Those are not the kind of numbers that drive re-election for either of them.
00:45And we have seen a similar pattern in other polls as well.
00:51So the approval numbers are quite low.
00:56And in our poll, two-thirds of voters said that Trump had a better performance than Biden did.
01:05This is very consistent with the post-debate poll that CNN conducted,
01:11which roughly had a little bit over two-thirds saying Trump did better than Biden.
01:18So I think that what we're seeing in the approval numbers is this post-debate effect.
01:25Maybe that will bounce back. Maybe not.
01:29But right now they're underwater fairly significantly and at a low when you look at it trended over the course of last year or two.
01:37When you and I have talked before, President Biden's approval ratings were in the 40 percent.
01:42Now they're in the 30 percent, 38 percent. Can an incumbent win with that type of approval rating?
01:49Well, a lot can happen between now and November.
01:53And both of these candidates in their own ways are both very well known by the public and tainted in the eyes of the public.
02:04So, yes, is there still a possibility that Biden could win?
02:10Absolutely. But right now the momentum is with Trump.
02:15It's not with Biden. And that's reflected in the approval rating.
02:20That's reflected in the horse race.
02:22That's reflected in the fact that despite all of the legal cases,
02:26Trump is able to sustain the support that he has amongst Republicans and independents.
02:32So if something is going to change, then it's not what has been happening up until now.
02:38It has to be something net new that really moves the electorate.
02:43And I will tell you that what moves the electorate is a focus on issues.
02:48What moves the electorate is a focus on the problems that they are facing.
02:52And the great missed opportunity in the debate on Thursday night was that neither of the candidates focused on tabletop issues and on the problems of the electorate.
03:03And we asked this question in our poll.
03:05Did you think that they came up with solutions to the problems that you're facing or not?
03:10Two thirds said no new solutions.
03:13Only 55 percent said that there was new and interesting information in the debate.
03:19But 45 percent didn't find the debate to be very useful to them in any way, shape, or form.
03:25And the overwhelming majority of the respondents in our poll said that both candidates should have focused more on education, immigration, inflation, on the top issues,
03:37less on the legal problems that the president's son is facing or Donald Trump is facing.
03:43So voters are yearning for solutions and they're yearning for a vision for what comes after November.
03:50And none of the candidates, neither of the candidates right now, the main candidates are providing that.
