00:00Yeah, I was in the 1997 election as a candidate. I know what it feels like and
00:05you have to brace yourself for the most horrible of defeats and it's a defeat
00:11that will take a long time for the Conservative Party to recover from and
00:15the question is what now for the Conservative Party if we come to some
00:19glib solutions that seem to suggest that we should veer even more to the right
00:25and become a party of protest and incoherent anger that would be a huge
00:30mistake because it seems to me the challenge now is generational what are
00:34we saying to younger people who want to own their own home we want to have a
00:37stake in our society not enough we need to start focusing on the new generation
00:42of voters who we need to vote for us in order to get back into government the
00:50road is going to be a very long one it's going to be a tough one Tom and I'm
00:53worried that if we rush this process we'll jump to the wrong conclusions and
00:57make the same mistakes that we did after 1997
