Barbie turns 65 with London show tracing doll's evolution

A Barbie that spent six months orbiting the Earth is to go on public display for the first time in London, part of a new exhibition tracing the doll's evolution as it marks its 65th anniversary.

00:06Well Barbie, as a doll and as a brand, has been around for 65 years. This year is that anniversary year.
00:13And very few toys have that kind of amazing longevity and that kind of presence in popular culture.
00:30One of the things that we talk about in detail is the way in which the Barbie brand has evolved over the decades.
00:50From its original iteration of one doll who is white, blonde, extremely thin, to today's brand which comprises a portfolio of dolls with dozens of different skin tones, hair textures, different body types.
01:06So we acknowledge that there has been a process of evolution and of improvement reflecting the increasing diversity of society today.
01:20A lot of such was due to the evolution of the doll.
