00:00Good afternoon from England's base in Blankenhain where media activities have been back underway
00:05today after a rest day yesterday for Gareth Southgate's players and the build-up really
00:09begins in earnest towards Saturday's quarterfinal with Switzerland in Dusseldorf. We came here this
00:14afternoon thinking we were going to hear from Luke Shaw for the first time in the tournament,
00:17that wasn't the case in the end Dan? No, Shaw was due to do the press conference here but pulled out
00:23half an hour or an hour or so before it was due to start and was replaced by Ivan Toney.
00:27Obviously given Shaw's injury situation that rang a few alarm bells, we were speculating you know
00:32has he had a setback, is it that hamstring, has he felt it on the training pitch this morning but
00:36we're led to believe that all is well from the Football Association and Shaw would just rather
00:41speak to the media when he's been back playing. So Tony stepped up and he's a decent story at the
00:47moment. Well a very capable substitute as he proved the other night of course and yeah he
00:53was quite good on that. You can go and see more now over on the Standard Sport website but he was
00:58talking about you know that quote from Gareth Southgate afterwards explaining why exactly it
01:02was that he had the hump about coming on so late but also quite interesting on how he kind of then
01:06refocused and cast that aside going into extra time to go and make a big impact there. He was
01:12also asked a bit more I suppose seriously about the prospects of racist abuse given the likelihood
01:17that he would take a penalty and a penalty shootout and we all of course know what happened to
01:22Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bakayo Saka on that and he basically said more for them
01:28the abusers and he's a confident man and he wouldn't let that put him off taking a penalty
01:32so some interesting stuff on there. I encourage you to go and take a look and you've just been
01:37listening to a couple of other players as well. Yeah I've been listening to Cole Palmer this
01:42afternoon, he did a couple of interviews. Interestingly penalties came up for him as
01:45well. I think with him and Tony that's a really big talking point because they're just such
01:48specialists from the spot and obviously there's a chance now we're in the knockouts and England
01:52could have a shootout and Palmer was interesting on it actually. He said there's a completely
01:55different pressure in a shootout to when you're taking a regular penalty in 90 minutes or 120
02:01minutes and that changes things so some decent insight from him and Foden was also very good,
02:08that's an embargoed interview so I can't say too much but safe to say that he offered a robust
02:13defence of Gerrard Salke and effectively said it's time to maybe look at the players when we're
02:19assessing these difficult performances so lots of interesting stuff coming out of the England camp
02:23today that there's more media tomorrow and then obviously we get into the swing of
02:28of the match preparations in earnest.
