Having thought that he had defeated Dr. Robotnik once and for all, Sonic is surprised when Tails informs him that a mysterious new island has suddenly appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Excited for a new adventure, Sonic and Tails head out to explore this new land, and quickly discover that Robotnik is still up to his usual tricks, and has a new ally in the form of one Knuckles the Echidna...
