The Rockliff government's deal with Jacqui Lambie Network could be on shaky ground, with the MPs indicating they'd prefer a less restrictive agreement that gives them more autonomy. While the party say they're willing to wait to renegotiate, it could spell future trouble for the minority government.

00:00When Tasmania's Jackie Lambie Network MPs were negotiating their deal with the Liberals,
00:07they knew it might not last.
00:10There will be conditions and it won't probably be for the life of the parliament because
00:13it has to be reviewed probably every 12 months.
00:16Three months later, they already want significant changes, but will wait until the deals are
00:22a year old before demanding them.
00:24I think there's probably two bits that I'd like to move out of it and that's the binding
00:28clause and the adjournment clause.
00:31The binding clause requires the Lambies to vote down motions that force the government
00:36to act in a certain way, like making it produce documents.
00:41The MPs also have to give the government 24 hours notice if they want to vote against
00:47it.
00:48We'll probably want the same privileges as the other MPs that are offered supply and
00:53confidence.
00:54Those in Dependence, Christy Johnston and David O'Byrne, have only guaranteed confidence
00:59and supply, but they haven't ruled out no confidence motions.
01:04The government appears unfazed.
01:06Well it will continue to work with the JLN members.
01:09They're doing a great job as new members of parliament.
01:12They're focused on certainty and stability for the community and making sure that we
01:16can really make a tangible difference for Tasmanians.
01:20This is a big deal, make no mistake.
01:22If the Jackie Lambie MPs rip up that agreement and enter into a new arrangement, it will
01:29be destabilising for Jeremy Rockleaf and the Liberal Party.
01:33Despite media reports about a rift between Senator Jackie Lambie and the Tasmanian branch,
01:39the JLN members insist they're still on good terms.
01:43But neither Ms Pentland nor Mr Jenner were able to provide clarity about a proposed agreement
01:49sent to Senator Lambie, defining the roles of the JLN state and federal teams.
01:54No I haven't heard back, I think the board's in her court and I haven't even really seen
02:01the agreement.
02:02I think it's just something that the board came up with.
02:05We were talking about an agreement, it hasn't been done.
02:07We were talking about putting an agreement together between us, so we knew our parameters
02:12and knew what we should be doing as well.
02:14Senator Lambie's office didn't respond to multiple requests for comment.
02:19I don't know if that's a good thing, I don't know if that's a good thing, I don't know
