00:00This is my favorite thing to teach on.
00:03This is what just literally transformed my life.
00:06Now, last week I shared that I had a miraculous encounter with the Lord in 1968
00:13and it was emotional. It got my attention.
00:15It just lit a fire on the inside of me.
00:18But after the emotion began to wear off,
00:21I actually got frustrated, discouraged, despondent about what did I do to make this happen?
00:28What did I do to make it leave?
00:30And panic set in.
00:32And really, one of the best things that ever happened to me,
00:34I got drafted and sent to Vietnam.
00:37And in Vietnam, I just had 13 months on my hands of doing virtually nothing.
00:43And I just stuck my nose in the Word and began to learn things.
00:47And then right as I got back from Vietnam,
00:50the Lord showed me what I was sharing last week.
00:54I haven't got time to go back through that.
00:57Let me just once again say that this book,
00:59I really encourage you to get this.
01:01It would change your life.
01:03I really believe that.
01:04I know people say that all the time, but this is what changed my life.
01:08And I've got thousands of testimonies of other people.
01:11Plus, we have it in Spanish.
01:13We have a study guide.
01:14We have CDs, DVDs, USB.
01:17We even have an audio book on this.
01:19And we have a little, I guess, illustrated teaching on this
01:25that's only about 25 minutes long.
01:27But a friend of mine in Germany took this
01:31and put it into this little illustration thing.
01:34And it's really, really good.
01:36So anyway, I haven't got time to go back through what I've already taught.
01:39But let me just say that when I found out that the Scripture says
01:43it was my spirit that got born again,
01:46that changed everything because I knew that God was real.
01:50I knew that God had power.
01:52And I knew, according to 2 Corinthians 5.17,
01:56that any person who's in Christ is a brand new creature.
02:00Old things have passed away.
02:01All things have become new.
02:03But I couldn't see that in my life.
02:05I couldn't see it in the mirror.
02:06My physical body didn't change.
02:08I was still the same person physically, you know.
02:11And regardless what our modern culture says,
02:14you know, if you were born a man, you're still a man.
02:17You can't just choose to be a woman or vice versa.
02:20I didn't change.
02:21My body was still the same.
02:23And my mental emotional part, it was in the process of changing
02:27as I got into the Word and renewed my mind.
02:30But I couldn't say that it was like 2 Corinthians 5.17
02:33where old things have passed away.
02:35All things have become new.
02:37And that caused confusion in me
02:39because I was wanting to see this transformation.
02:43But I was only looking in the mirror in my physical body.
02:47And I was looking in my mental emotional part,
02:50which most of us call our personality.
02:52And even though I could see some changes,
02:54it wasn't like the Scripture was describing.
02:57And when I got a revelation that there was three parts to me,
03:01not just the physical that is obvious,
03:03not just the mental and emotional part that I see and feel,
03:08but there was a third part, the Spirit.
03:10And the Scripture says that you can only know the Spirit
03:14through the Word of God.
03:16Jesus said, the words that I speak unto you,
03:18they are Spirit and they are alive, John 6.63.
03:22It says in James chapter 1,
03:24that whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty,
03:27talking about the Word of God,
03:29is like a man looking at himself in a mirror.
03:33And yet a mirror shows you your natural face,
03:36but this shows you who you are spiritually.
03:39When I got this revelation, this just transformed me.
03:44And it transformed my understanding of the Word of God
03:47because I began to realize that when the Scripture says
03:50that I have the same power in me that raised Jesus Christ from the dead,
03:54Ephesians 1, 18 and 19,
03:56I can't feel that in my physical body.
03:59I can't see it in my mental, emotional part.
04:02But in the Spirit, I have the resurrection power of Jesus in me.
04:07And it just opened up a brand new world to me
04:10of understanding the Word of God.
04:12And so, man, I'm excited about this.
04:14This has now been 55 years since the Lord changed my life,
04:19but you would have never seen me on television.
04:22I would have never been in the ministry.
04:24I wouldn't have had anything to offer anybody else
04:27if I hadn't gotten hold of this revelation.
04:30This was the key that unlocked everything for me.
04:34And so, anyway, I shared all of that last week.
04:37I nearly shared it all again, but that's just that exciting to me.
04:41Let me start with the Scripture over here in Ephesians 1.
04:46And let me start making some of the applications.
04:49Once I begin to understand that it's not my body, it's not my soul,
04:53that God saved, but it's my Spirit.
04:55And the only way I can contact my Spirit
04:57is through believing what God's Word says about me.
05:00Once I got that, here are some of the applications of this
05:04that I began to make to my life.
05:06And I tell you, this has just revolutionized me.
05:09Let me say it this way.
05:11Somebody might have listened to what I said last week,
05:13and if you didn't, please go get those materials.
05:16You can go to our website and get them free.
05:19But if you heard this and you say,
05:21well, I can understand that when I got born again,
05:23I was born again a brand new person,
05:26and I didn't have any sin or any of those kind of things.
05:29But you don't understand.
05:30Since then, I've sinned, and I've messed up, even as a Christian.
05:35And people just immediately think
05:37that that somehow or another defiled them.
05:40Here's some of the things that the Lord began to teach me,
05:43and this is powerful.
05:45In Ephesians chapter 1, let me start reading with verse 11.
05:49It says, In whom also you have obtained...
05:52Notice the terminology.
05:54You have obtained an inheritance,
05:57not are going to, you might.
06:00It's something that is already an accomplished deal.
06:02Again, some people struggle to understand this
06:04because they look in their physical body,
06:06and they think, man, my body hadn't changed.
06:08I had problems.
06:09I had pain before.
06:10I had arthritis or something before,
06:13and my body hadn't changed, and they can't see it.
06:16They go into their mental, emotional realm,
06:18and they think, man, I was discouraged,
06:20and I was inferior, and I had all of these phobias
06:23and different things, and now that I'm born again,
06:25I still have those things.
06:26And they look, and they just get confused.
06:28But if you understand, this is talking about the part of you
06:31that is born again.
06:32You're born again spirit.
06:34So in the spirit, it says that you have obtained an inheritance.
06:39You aren't waiting for pie in the sky,
06:42by and by, but it's steak on the plate while you wait.
06:45You right now have the power of God living on the inside of you.
06:50This is what it says over in 1 John chapter 4, verse 17.
06:54As Jesus is, so are we in this world.
06:59Not so are we going to be in the next world,
07:01but you are right now.
07:03If all you are doing is looking to see that in the physical realm,
07:07no, the physical realm hadn't changed yet.
07:101 Corinthians chapter 15, that this corruptible must put on incorruption,
07:15and this mortal must put on immortality,
07:18that this body has to be changed into a glorified body
07:22that is coming in the future.
07:23Your body's not changed yet.
07:25And if you're trying to see this change in just your physical body,
07:28you're going to be confused and think,
07:30well, I just can't understand the word.
07:32If you're looking for this change in your mental emotional part,
07:35you're going to see parts of it.
07:37You're going to see benefit of it.
07:39But you aren't totally changed.
07:41It says over in 1 Corinthians chapter 13,
07:44this was the apostle Paul speaking.
07:46And he said, now we know in part and we prophesy in part.
07:49But when that which is perfect is come,
07:52then we'll know all things, even as also we are known.
07:55That hasn't happened yet.
07:57That's not going to happen as long as you are in this physical body.
08:00But in your spirit, you have been totally transformed.
08:05And it says in 1 Corinthians 2, 16,
08:08that you have the mind of Christ.
08:10In 1 John chapter 2, verse 20,
08:13you have an unction from the Holy One and you know all things.
08:15That's not true up here in your little peanut sized brain.
08:19But in your spirit, you have the mind of Christ and you know all things.
08:23You already have an inheritance being predestinated
08:28according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things
08:32after the counsel of His own will,
08:34that we should be to the praise of His glory
08:37who first trusted in Christ,
08:39in whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth,
08:43the gospel of your salvation,
08:45in whom also after that you believed,
08:47you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.
08:51So the reason I bring these verses out
08:53is to say that this scripture says you were sealed
08:56by the Holy Spirit of promise.
08:59So when you got born again,
09:01you became a new creature, 2 Corinthians 5, 17,
09:05Ephesians 4, 24,
09:07that new creature was created righteous and truly holy.
09:11According to 1 John 4, 17,
09:15you are right this moment as Jesus is.
09:18Now somebody might say,
09:19well, maybe I was that way when I got born again,
09:22but I've sinned since then.
09:23This verse says that once you believe,
09:26you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
09:30You know, there's different kinds of seals
09:32that we use in our language today.
09:34We talk about you could put a seal on something
09:38like in the United States,
09:39they have a good housekeeping seal of approval
09:42that they stamp on things that it's been approved
09:44and it's a good product.
09:46But this is talking about a seal in the sense that
09:50like when you put preserves up,
09:53when you put something in a jar,
09:55then they'll put paraffin across the top of that thing
09:58and form a seal that keeps all of the airborne impurities
10:02from penetrating that seal
10:04and it preserves whatever it is that you put in that jar.
10:07This is the way that this is talking about.
10:09Once you were born again,
10:11you were created in righteousness and true holiness
10:14as Jesus is, so are you in this world.
10:17And then you were vacuum packed.
10:20Amen.
10:21The Holy Spirit sealed that born again spirit
10:25so that even after you get born again,
10:28when you sin, when you fail,
10:30when you fall short of being the person
10:33that you're supposed to be,
10:34that sin will penetrate your physical body
10:38and it can give Satan an inroad into your body.
10:40It could cause sickness and disease
10:43and things like that.
10:45It can penetrate into your soul
10:47and it can cause depression,
10:49discouragement, despair.
10:51But if you are truly born again,
10:53then the moment you were born again,
10:55you were sealed, vacuum packed by the Holy Spirit
10:58and that sin does not penetrate the seal
11:02around your spirit.
11:04That's huge.
11:06I tell you what, when I saw this,
11:08it totally transformed my life
11:10because before that,
11:11even though I didn't believe I was going to go to hell
11:14after I was born again,
11:16I knew that my sins were forgiven
11:18and that somehow I'd make it to heaven,
11:20that my eternal destiny was secure.
11:22I felt like that every time I sinned,
11:25it was a new transgression against God
11:28and that somehow or another,
11:30it affected my relationship.
11:32You'll often hear this terminology
11:34that it doesn't affect your relationship,
11:36it affects your fellowship.
11:38And to a degree, that's true,
11:40but not because God turns away from you when you sin.
11:44God never turns away from you.
11:46Once you get born again,
11:48He never leaves you nor forsakes you.
11:50It says in John 4, verse 24,
11:52that God is a spirit
11:54and those who worship Him
11:56must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
11:58It didn't say they might, they should.
12:01This is the best way.
12:02It says you must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
12:07And your spirit is born again,
12:09righteous and truly holy as Jesus is,
12:12so are you in this world.
12:14Plus you are vacuum-packed, sealed,
12:17so that when you sin,
12:18that spirit never changes.
12:20And if you worship God in spirit and in truth,
12:24then even when you've sinned,
12:26even when you come short of the person
12:29that you're supposed to be,
12:30you can still enter boldly
12:32into the throne of grace
12:34that you might obtain mercy
12:36and find grace to help in the time of need.
12:38That's Hebrews 4, verse 16.
12:40And notice it says you find mercy,
12:42not justice,
12:44but you find mercy in a time of need,
12:46even when you've blown it.
12:48You can still come before God justified,
12:52just as if I'd never sinned,
12:55if you worship Him in spirit and in truth.
12:58And the very fact that most of us are sin conscious
13:01and we are so aware of our failures
13:04that every time we come before God,
13:06we come in saying,
13:07oh God, I'm so unworthy.
13:09God, I come before you.
13:10I don't deserve anything.
13:11And you start mentioning all of your sins.
13:14I know because I've done this.
13:16And this is the way that I was brought up.
13:19I approached God just thinking
13:21that I had to mention every sin,
13:23everything I'd done wrong,
13:24and if I didn't mention it, God would.
13:27I had to just constantly purge myself.
13:30And it was a tremendous revelation
13:33when I began to recognize that God is a spirit
13:37and God looks at me in the spirit.
13:39I relate to God based on who I am in the spirit.
13:43And that born again spirit is righteous
13:45and truly holy.
13:47It's vacuum packed so that even when I sin
13:50in my physical body,
13:51I do not get contaminated in my spirit.
13:55And I have to relate to God spirit to spirit.
13:58See, when you come before God saying,
14:00oh God, I'm so unworthy.
14:01God, how could you love somebody like me?
14:04You aren't coming before God in the spirit.
14:06You're coming before God in your flesh.
14:09You're coming before God based on these actions,
14:11based on the way that you've been thinking.
14:14Man, I've got so much to say about this,
14:18but let me just say that
14:20I need to put some balance to this
14:22because somebody's going to listen to this and think.
14:24You're saying that once you're born again,
14:26you can just go live like the devil
14:28and because your spirit is pure
14:30and you've been sealed,
14:32that you worship God in spirit and in truth
14:34and it doesn't matter how you live.
14:36No, that's not what I'm saying.
14:38Matter of fact, it says over in Titus 2, verse 11,
14:42it says the grace of God that brings salvation
14:46has appeared unto all men.
14:48That's verse 11.
14:49And then verse 12, it says,
14:50teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts
14:55that we are supposed to live soberly
14:57and righteously in this present world.
14:59Grace, understanding God is a spirit
15:02and that he's forgiven you not based on what you've done,
15:05but based on what he did.
15:07You got born again righteous and truly holy.
15:09If you truly understand this,
15:12it'll cause you to live holier for God
15:15accidentally than you ever have on purpose before.
15:19I am not encouraging sin,
15:21but I am saying that my relationship with God
15:25is not based on my physical performance,
15:28my mental, emotional thoughts,
15:31and whether I do everything right
15:33and whether I keep my mind state on the Lord.
15:36My relationship with God and my fellowship with God,
15:41if I can believe it,
15:43is based on who I am in Christ,
15:46not based on my actions.
15:48Does that mean that my actions are unimportant?
15:50No, because Romans chapter 6, verse 16 says,
15:53Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey,
15:58his servants you are to whom you obey,
16:00whether of sin unto death
16:02or of obedience unto righteousness.
16:05Even though God is a spirit,
16:07God is dealing with me based on who I am in the spirit.
16:11I'm not only a spirit.
16:14I also have a soul and a body.
16:17And if I yield my body and my soul to Satan
16:21through my actions or through my thoughts,
16:24Satan only comes to steal, kill, and destroy,
16:27is what Jesus said in John chapter 10, verse 10.
16:31And if I yield my body and my thoughts to Satan,
16:34I guarantee you he is going to take his pound of flesh.
16:38He is going to cause problems in my life.
16:41He will cause problems in my physical body.
16:44He will cause problems in my mental, emotional part.
16:47I'll have fear.
16:48I can't be over here saying that,
16:51Oh, Father, I trust you,
16:52and yet at the same time yielding myself to the devil.
16:55It just, you know, the scripture says in James chapter 4, verse 7,
16:58Submit yourselves therefore unto God.
17:01And the last half of that verse says,
17:03Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
17:06I've got to be resisting the devil,
17:08but I can't truly be resisting the devil
17:11if over here I'm not submitted unto God.
17:13If I'm yielding unto the devil,
17:15I can't be resisting the devil.
17:18I mean, this is so simple.
17:20You've got to have somebody to help you to misunderstand it.
17:22But it is amazing how religion has confused all of this.
17:27And they think that the reason you live holy
17:30is because every time you sin as a Christian,
17:33it breaks your relationship.
17:35That's what the Pentecostal say,
17:37and you actually lose your salvation.
17:39And if you were to die in that,
17:41what they call backslidden state
17:43with an unconfessed sin in your life,
17:45you'd go to hell.
17:46That's an extreme.
17:47But over here on the other hand,
17:49the evangelicals will say,
17:50No, you don't lose your relationship.
17:52You just lose your fellowship.
17:54But nonetheless, you still can't access God
17:58as long as you have any unconfessed sin in your life.
18:03Now, I am not encouraging you to live in sin
18:06and not to confess your sin.
18:07But I'm saying that if you just go by what the Word says,
18:10in James 4, verse 17,
18:12it says,
18:13To him that knows to do good,
18:14and does it not to him it is sin.
18:16But Romans 14, 23 says,
18:18Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
18:20So if you use the Bible definition of sin,
18:24sin is not only when you break one of the Big Ten,
18:27the Ten Commandments.
18:28It's not only when you go out and get drunk,
18:31when you do drugs,
18:32when you rebel at God's big time.
18:35But sin is not doing all of the good things
18:39that you know to do,
18:40and yet you fail.
18:42Did you know in that sense,
18:43every one of us fail all of the time.
18:45Also, Romans 14, 23,
18:47Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
18:49If you aren't operating in faith,
18:51if you are struggling with your healing,
18:53with your finances,
18:54with joy,
18:55and with peace,
18:56and on and on you could go.
18:57If you're struggling in your faith,
18:58if your faith isn't just as pure as it could be,
19:01100% proof,
19:02then you're in sin.
19:05And if you take this mindset
19:07that if I've got any sin in my life,
19:09then God can't really fellowship with me.
19:12Well, then you're never going to have God fellowship with you.
19:16I know that what I'm saying is confusing
19:20to people who are religious
19:21because this has been ingrained in us
19:24that you have to have everything in your life right
19:29before God can fellowship with you,
19:31before God can use you.
19:33What I'm saying is
19:34God has never had anybody qualified working for him yet.
19:38God doesn't have anybody who is 100% pure
19:42and has no thought and no problems,
19:45and you are the maximum Christian.
19:47God doesn't have anybody like that to fellowship with.
19:50We're all in varying degrees of being less
19:53than what God wanted us to be.
19:55And if you have this mindset
19:56that unless you have everything in your life perfect,
20:00God can't fellowship with you.
20:02God can't use you.
20:03Well, then that's the very reason
20:05that you aren't experiencing a greater relationship with God
20:09is because you are trying to relate to God flesh to spirit
20:14instead of spirit to spirit.
20:16You're flesh.
20:17Even though it may get better,
20:19even though you may be living holier than you ever have,
20:22you've still got flesh.
20:24And I don't care if it's USDA choice flesh.
20:27If you are in the flesh,
20:28you cannot please God.
20:30That's what it says in Romans chapter 8.
20:32They that are in the flesh cannot please Him.
20:34You can't approach God based on your flesh,
20:38based on your action,
20:39based on your thought life.
20:41You have to learn that you are a brand new person in Christ
20:45and you have to worship God in spirit and in truth.
20:50Man, when I began to see this,
20:52it just revolutionized my life
20:55because I had no doubt about God being awesome
20:59and 100% pure and 100% holy.
21:03And I didn't have any problems with Him,
21:05but I knew how much of a failure I was.
21:09And again, relative to people,
21:12I've lived a pretty holy life.
21:14I've never said a cuss word in all my 74 years.
21:17I've never taken a drink of liquor.
21:19I've never smoked a cigarette.
21:20I've never tasted coffee.
21:22I have lived a separated holy life.
21:25And yet who wants to be the best sinner
21:27that ever got rejected by God?
21:29I knew that I still wasn't the person I was supposed to be
21:32and I had this constant feeling of how could God love me
21:37when I understood that when I got born again,
21:40He gave me a brand new spirit
21:43that is righteous and holy,
21:45Ephesians 4 24,
21:46as Jesus is,
21:47so am I in this world,
21:481 John 4 17.
21:50When I began to understand this
21:52and realize that God was a spirit,
21:54John 4 24,
21:55and He looked at me and related to me
21:57based on who I was in the spirit.
22:00It just allowed me to enter boldly
22:03into the presence of God.
22:05It allowed me to begin to start believing that God loved me
22:08and that God could fellowship with me
22:10and that God could use me
22:12in spite of my imperfections.
22:15Now that doesn't encourage me to go out
22:16and just live in sin
22:17because I know I've got an enemy
22:19that's trying to take advantage of me.
22:21But man, it just set me free
22:24from the guilt and the condemnation of sin.
22:27And I believe it would do the same thing for you.
22:29I'm out of time.
