Feral Bunnies Scrapping Nanaimo April 18, 2009

Residents of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Cedar, Parksville, etc keep abandoning their unwanted rabbits at this park somewhat behind the Petsmart in Nanaimo. Other people stop by to feed, take pictures, and observe them. The rabbits eat, destroy surorunding homes gardens, mate and breed constantly, fight, and get preyed upon by dogs, cats, coyotes, eagles, ravens, owls and people. One bunny is missing an eye. Bodies of killed rabbits can be seen. What are you people thinking when you dump your pets off to fend for themselves in an environment they are clearly not meant to thrive in? Their "domesticated' colours and markings make them highly visible to their predators, and their lack of natural foraging skills (and lack of defensive behaviours and skills) make them easy marks for carnivores of all sorts. And doesn't anyone alert the local SPCAs about these unfortunate critters?
