00:00It's long, soft, slippery, and still moving.
00:16You might wonder, is it related to eating this flower?
00:24This is Sasing, a delicacy in Lucena, Quezon.
00:29It's a type of sandworm that can be seen in the sand when it's low tide.
00:34It has become a livelihood of some people here, like our wanderer, Jimmy.
00:39When I was young, my father taught me.
00:42He said, my son, this is the only crop for you, to harvest Sasing.
00:46So I learned, I'm making a profit from it, it's easy for me to harvest.
00:51In the harvest of Sasing, Jimmy earns more than 500 pesos a day.
00:56That's why he considers it to be a great blessing of the sea.
01:00It's also a great thing for our family, for our daily expenses.
01:03Now, Jimmy is not the only one who earns money from it.
01:06He also gives it to his son, Jimboy.
01:09My father is a farmer, and I'm just a farmer.
01:12I quit when I got used to harvesting.
01:18So my father's income is different from mine.
01:23In order to catch Sasing, Jimmy and Jimboy are eagerly waiting for the water to come down.
01:29At 4 p.m., they bring their rafts and boats.
01:33They start harvesting Sasing.
01:36The Sasing hide under the soil.
01:39While harvesting, Jimmy and Jimboy will first look for the soft part of the soil.
01:46To get the Sasing, it will make a hole, then we'll get it from the inside.
01:53The hands need to be fast in getting the Sasing.
02:07But it should also be done slowly because it will break easily.
02:22After getting the Sasing, what's the next thing to do but to eat it?
02:27For us, Sasing is delicious.
02:31It's edible raw.
02:32You poke it, then you cut off the end.
02:36Then you wash it.
02:38And for Jimmy, Sasing is said to be the best when eaten raw.
02:44It's salty, but it's sweet.
02:45The shape is good.
02:47Besides eating it raw, Jimmy also drinks the blood of the Sasing.
02:53This soup is delicious.
02:55I'm already 57 years old, that's why my body is getting stronger,
02:58because of this Sasing soup.
03:01I wonder how the eating of different seafoods will be saved,
03:05especially those that are not cooked.
03:08Eating exotic seafoods,
03:11but we still have a lot to consider,
03:14the species alone.
03:15Because later, it might not be safe to consume by the human body.
03:20It might have toxins.
03:22How safe is it?
03:23Of course, we need to consider where we got it from.
03:26And of course, the freshness, right?
