00:00This is a boy!
00:25Squat the weight up.
00:30Good boy.
00:44Start.
00:46Press.
00:48Start.
00:55Can you tell us who you are and where we are today?
00:57My name's Armagh Lachlan and I'm one of the owners of Pad Tier, just as we are standing outside it.
01:03So we're currently hosting a strength competition that involves powerlifting and strongman.
01:10It has bench deadlifts and personal complements.
01:13It's just really a test of strength on certain people and people coming in and wanting to try competitions.
01:18Just newcomers really, that's what it's for.
01:21And this is your first one, right?
01:23Yeah, this is our first one.
01:24What's it like setting up here?
01:26Stressful. Very stressful.
01:29But it's enjoyable at the same time.
01:31You get to see all the people enjoying the competition on their day.
01:35Just the bulk of it alone, it was hard but it was definitely worth it.
01:39How do you think it's going so far?
01:41Really well. It's going really well.
01:43Better than I thought.
01:45Unfortunately we were expecting some other things to be here but they cancelled last minute.
01:48But we're not fussed, we'll just get on with it and do what we can.
01:56Let's go.
02:01Start.
02:03Rest.
02:14Hi, my name is Gemma Murren, I'm currently the strongest woman.
02:17Currently the strongest woman?
02:19What's that like?
02:21What's that feeling of knowing that you're the strongest woman out there?
02:25It's obviously when I started my sport, it's obviously where I wanted to go.
02:28And having it now the last two years in a row has been a very lethal experience.
02:32And you're not competing today but you are...
02:35What are you doing here today?
02:36So I'm the head referee for the strongman today.
02:38So because they're doing two lifts, they're doing a log press and then they're doing a deadlift.
02:42That is a good lift.
02:43What does it mean for you to do a deadlift?
02:45Next up we have Shane O'Connell with 100 kilos on the bar.
02:48After Shane we have...
02:50Being a referee, you're a big part of the competition too.
02:52And obviously I'm trying to get new people into the sport.
02:54You want to give them a good experience.
02:56I want to give them all the experience that I've had.
02:58The knowledge that I have to learn and help them.
03:01And even to see new girls who come through, it's brilliant to see.
03:04And especially here, where this is obviously my gym.
03:07So it's always good to help out too.
03:09Do you think there's a lot more women getting involved in strong sports?
03:12A thousand percent.
03:13I've been doing this for three short years.
03:17And even the progress I've seen in the last three years is phenomenal.
03:20I remember going to competitions and being the only girl there.
03:23Whereas now we've got different ladies in there.
03:26Which is really good to see.
03:28Good lift from Shane.
03:32Next up we have Shane Nixon.
03:34100 kilos on the bar.
03:36After Shane we have Sharon Limjack.
03:39It's a small community.
03:41When there's competitions it's so good to get the wider community.
03:44Like families and friends to come and experience as well.
03:46Because it is a good family to have.
03:48And also seeing children all come and watch and support.
03:50Because it's showing them what can be done.
03:52Especially for wee girls.
03:53I'm always going to support the girls anyway.
03:55But you know what I mean.
03:56Even to see wee girls in there watching.
03:58Seeing all their idols.
03:59Because we never had that growing up.
04:01So even to have that opportunity to do that is unreal.
04:23Let's go.
04:28Start.
04:30Impressive.
